Satan Greatest Battlefield and God’s Greatest Glory
The other day while sitting in church with my wife and kids, listening to the preacher talk about church people and how they attack and hurt their own; my daughter looked at us with amazement on her face not understanding the boisterous laughter coming from the audience. She asked, “Dad why do they laugh when everything the preacher stated is true?” At that moment I comprehended the significant consequences of the encounters my daughter endured from church people who had shown aggression towards her father and mother as pastors. From that point until now my thoughts linger back to the moment when my daughter’s face look totally confused at what she witnessed from the church audience on

Some of our actions instills a since of pride while others not so much. Nevertheless, everything we decide to say or do is done because God created in us free will. We all have an ability to decide what we feel, what we think, and how we act. C.S. Lewis wrote “God created things which had free will. That means creatures which can go wrong or right. Some people think they can imagine a creature which was free but had no possibility of going wrong, but I can't. If a thing is free to be good it's also free to be bad. ” God gave man/women control over his/her own mind, body and soul when he gave us free will. However, with free will came a matrix of influences that we call human nature. Some influences seem good and others not so good. Non-Christians depend on many of these influences to help them cope and get through life. As a Christian we depend on a spiritual matrix not human nature to guide us through this life. The law of God is written on man heart but God’s nature is taught and gifted to us by the righteousness of Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit draws us to Christ. Christ fills us with his righteousness. In this act of salvation through Christ we are able to overcome our human nature and live as kingdom people in an un-godly world.
Spiritual (Divine) Nature is in effect opposite of human nature in every manner. Spiritual nature has no pretense. It does all things for God. It is
In numerous books, I noticed how it is looked down upon to be a prideful person. This is a lesson that too many people do not seek knowledge of. Those are the few who do not realize the way that you act towards other is only a reflection of yourself. I have seen up close and personal how being a prideful person can seriously hurt your life. In the Popol Vuh I saw them mention pride countless times and one example of that would be from the story of the twins grandparents healing the Lord. “They had desired the death of Seven Macaw, and they were able to do it. For they saw pride as evil and went to do these things according to the word of Heart of Sky.” (p. 88, PopoVuh). What is evil to one could be good to the other, just as what is good
According to the theologians, pride is the worst of the seven deadly sins. therefore having pride in what you do is all about motivation. Getting motivated and doing something you love to achieve full potential is in a human nature. Scientifically spoke, it all begins from the bunch of chemicals that is happening in your brain. While all animals produce basic emotions like fear and anger, humans have highly developed social emotions, such as shame, guilt and pride which involve an awareness of what other people think and feel about us. The serotonin is the chemical that produces happiness in your brain.
So much of society seems to live his/her life on a sort of self-serving autopilot mode. Rarely does one stop to think how or why he/she is making certain decisions or how these decisions can affect his/her life in the future. Often times, it is not until one has a “string of bad luck” or something tragic happens in one’s life, when he/she will turn to Jesus for help “getting them through this problem” only to return to one’s self-centered ways once his/her life has returned to normal. Living life with a Christian worldview is not something that one can take off a shelf and use when needed and allow it to collect dust on that shelf the rest of the time. This paper will discuss the many parts that make
When is excessive pride considered Dangerous? That is the question people have been asking throughout history. Based on your beliefs, one may deem that their actions on this earth is worth far more than the consequences you could receive in heaven. On the other hand, The Puritans were strong believers of the total opposite Ideology. During the 1600s in Salem Massachusetts the majority of the population were Puritans, who believed that their solitary goal in life was to please God to secure their place in heaven. In order to secure his place in heaven, John Proctor committed an honorable act to hang instead of admitting to any relation to Satan.
All living things are given desires by nature. These desires exist as part of who we are. They define us in a way; they can aid us and they can also do us great harm. The cardinal sin of Pride, for instance, can be a good thing, to have pride in yourself and your abilities, and be able to brag about them may be what stands between you and another person applying for the same job. But
We want to succeed with pride so we are worthy of being honored or respected. We don't want to feel prideful when others are just going to judge us then we feel that shame. Sometimes there isn't a point of being prideful when we cannot judge. We want others to see us being prideful, but then that can be good or possibly bad. There is also a point where we can just be humble.
Pride is a deadly sin because people that are too prideful cannot recognize that pride is a problem that has to be dealt with. In most cases people do not realize their pride until a problem presents itself and they are forced to realize the truth. Dr. Maxwell says “Pride deafens us to the advice or warnings of those around us. As Stephen Covey has said, “It takes humility to seek feedback. It takes wisdom to understand it, analyze it, and appropriately act on it.” Without humility, we care about only one opinion—our own” (Maxwell). Even when pointed out people’s ego make them blind to their
Although the small group of church goers were mostly elderly Caucasian people, they were diverse and friendly towards new individuals. Those who wore the traditional, elegant attire of a Sunday worship service greeted with a firm handshake and a gentle smile. On the other hand, those who preferred to wear casual outfits greeted with tight hugs and hearty laughter from seeing a new face. After talking to more than half of the attendants, it was evident that everyone knew a lot about each other. It was nice to hear that most of them had overwhelmingly positive words to say about the church itself. Then, I finally met the middle-aged pastor who was glad to see someone new and introduced me to his wife. She had a stoic expression and had nothing to say. Honestly, the wife’s silence struck me as surprising considering how the other people were talkative, but it is nothing to be overly concerned about. After all, it was almost time for the Sunday service to
On a particular Sunday, several months ago, I was making my anxious rounds through the sanctuary, checking on the two thousand minuet details that go unnoticed by everyone but the Pastor and a few influential widows. There I introduced myself to an obvious visitor, a professional looking women in her mid 50’s. I asked if she was visiting, knowing the answer, and was pleasantly surprised to learn she was a Truett Professor doing what she described as a field trip, observing churches her students attend. As I walked her to a seat that hadn’t belonged to an elderly member for five decades, I went back to my duty, working the room and politicking the old crowd.
The opposite of pride is humility. Pride is what C.S Lewis considers the center of Christian morals. The sin of pride will lead to other vices. It produces a mindset that is against God. The devil became the devil due to pride.
The students of the Mamou Alliance Academy in Africa were all children of missionaries that were required to attend the boarding school in order for their parents to go save souls of many in Africa. One would think that a Christian institution would not have such high tolerance for child abuse but that is not always the case and certainly wasn’t for Mamou. A total of 8 staff personnel are known to have abused the children of Mamou either spiritually, sexually, physically or psychologically. What really grabbed me was when one of the children, now as an adult said “well, how many souls were worth my soul?” Their parents may have saved many African souls but neglected their own families and yes, I do consider this to some level a neglect in their part as well because as a single mother after God, my son is my top priority and yeah I would love to be able to travel the world leading people to Christ but not if that means leaving my son for 6 months at a time; to be able to protect your child and choose not to must leave lasting emotional scarring. Many of the children of Mamou are now terrified of the Church because it brings back all of those horrid memories it makes me wonder if this could be why we have two types of atheists is
* Krishna’s two natures: he has created out of himself all the elements and all things that make up the world. His spiritual nature is that he is the transcendent lord of the universe.
Some of the connection I’d experience during the service was when the pastor was talking about having hope and sticking by someone who have continuous mistreated you. A wave of confusion struck me, I was unaware at the time that it was anger and pain that connected to my past experiences with others who I have devoted my time to, whom happen to mistreated me. Therefore, in the
Why is this society encouraging self pride when they do not even wish to hear what the conceited demand to say? Why are they contradicting themselves? Would it not be easier if there was an agreement made as to what is okay and what is not? Following the biblical way would make things simpler. Keep in mind that there is a difference between the pride of feeling accomplished and the pride that the Lord despises. When the conceited look down on others and start competing with God for the spotlight, there becomes a problem.
I entered into the worship service, unaware of what to expect. I was not familiar with this church, it was a non-denominational church, but the pastor had his roots in the A.M.E. Zion Church and branched out to establish his own church. I walked into the sanctuary prepared to participate in the Sunday School. I found a seat and readied myself to engage in some meaningful discussion. After sitting for several minutes, I asked one of the gentlemen who was standing at the front of the church if they had already started and where was the lesson coming from. He looked at his watch and indicated that he didn’t know if we had time for Sunday School. A puzzled look came over my face and I couldn’t help but express my confusion as I looked at
