The theme: Sometimes, by the time we realize what we have done wrong, we can no longer fix the mistake fits both stories “The Scarlet Ibis” and “The Sniper” perfectly. In both stories the characters make terrible mistakes in which they both will end up regretting. Similarities of the two stories themes would be they both do something they regret. In “The Sniper” the man was just doing his job when he accidentally shot man who turned out to be his brother. The story does not continue after but I can guarantee he felt awful about the mistake he had just made. The same thing occurs in “The Scarlet Ibis” the narrator pushes his brother with medical issues to hard and later on regrets it. The difference between the stories is in “The Sniper”

In the story "' the scarlet Ibis" by James Hurst, the Brother knew that doodle should not go through strenuous work and he ignored the rule many times before Doodle died. Brother didn't teach Doodle all those things to help Doodle become more normal, he was doing them for himself. Brother didn't want to have a brother that was disabled from the things that he liked to do. After Doodle died Brother realized that he had been pushing Doodle too far for his own good.
In The story “The Scarlet Ibis” By: James Hurst, the narrator is a kid who is never named. The Armstrong’s lives in the country, near a swamp and the ocean, and that he’s six when his little brother, Doddle is born. Now, the younger brother, William Armstrong, is born with some disabilities and disadvantages. Fear that his mind is damaged as the body. The Family is so down on the little child that his father builds a coffin for him, just when his time is up. Doodle has an accident which leads to death, in which his older brother is to blame. He is blamed for his death because he pushed his brother too hard to do things that were too difficult and not listening to him when doodle didn’t want the help.
The narrator in The Scarlet Ibis says,”I did not know then that pride is... a seed that bears two vines,life and death” (#1). The narrator's actions towards his brother,Doodle, show that he is consumed by pride. In this story pride ruined the narrator's perspective of his brother.

Menninger, “Love cures people - both the ones who give it and the ones who receive it.” In “Scarlet Ibis”, Brother and Doodle shared a special bond by the activities and lessons Brother taught Doodle. Brother out of love taught Doodle how to walk, run, and jump even though Doodle was never supposed to be able to do any of those activities. Doodle recieved Brothers love through his actions and Doodle grew in his abilities. In “Scarlet Ibis” by James Hurst, Brother feels love, pride, and guilt for how he treated his brother Doodle.

William Armstrong, known as Doodle, brother of the narrator. His family first thought he would pass away soon after birth. Later, Doodle surprised everyone by learning to walk. “The Scarlet Ibis” by James Hurst is a story about two brothers, one who had physical and mental disabilities and wasn’t able to do most things that other kids his age could do. Brother would constantly try to make Doodle “normal” by forcing him to do things that he wasn’t supposed to be doing, all because he didn’t want to have a brother who was different. One night during a hurricane Brother and Doodle were running home and Doodle couldn’t catch up so he ended up getting left behind and shortly died. Brother is responsible for Doodle’s death because in the story he admits that he tried killing Doodle before, and he was always rude to him.
Pride, as defined in the dictionary as, “the happy satisfied feeling somebody experiences when having or achieving something special”. Our pride can be sabotaged by our own selfish emotions, and this occurred in the book The Scarlet Ibis. Big Brother’s pride drug him down but also motivated him. Pride is part of the main theme of The Scarlet Ibis, and the entire theme is, “Pride is a wonderful terrible thing, a seed that bears to vines, life and death.” Finally, The Scarlet Ibis tells us about ourselves and our own pride. Pride can be written well in stories, but it also does happen to us in real life.
Is Doodle destined to die? It seems from the time William Armstrong also known as Doodle, as his brother renamed him, was born he was on a path to die. He was born with physical deformities to the level his father built him a coffin and thought he was sure to die. Being born with these deformities already makes Doodle different, while his brother only helps him walk for his own pride because he is ashamed of having a crippled brother. In the short story, “The Scarlet Ibis” there are two main characters throughout, Doodle and his older brother. The entire setting of the story was based around Doodle’s brother, when he comes back home, he remembers Doodle, and how he blames himself for Doodle’s death. Doodle’s older brother; though not mentioned how old he is, and where he is now; is portrayed as a mean, naive teenager, who ¨killed¨ his younger brother, but he is still just a teenager. Majority who have read the story, have different perspectives/opinions about the characteristics of the brother. The author, James Hurst, of the short story, “The Scarlet Ibis” uses social qualities and moral qualities to prove the character of Doodle’s brother, is caring, insecure, and very driven.

The narrator has a brother, Doodle, who is disabled. At birth, Doodle is very frail and he is unable to walk or do normal activities. When Doodle was born, the narrator was about six years old and did not really care much for Doodle. He thought Doodle was an annoying little brother. Doodle would always hang around his older brother and his brother knew that he had to be safe when it came to Doodle. Because of Doodle’s heart condition, he was not able to be flipped upside down, he could not get scared or get too excited.
