The Causes of the Second War in Iraq Even a decade after the US-Iraqi war, there are many arguments about the war and its causes. Some people think that nothing justifies the Iraqi war. The others are convinced that this was one of the best decisions the US has taken in its history. However, Iraq was one of the most developed countries in the Middle East. Iraq had many black spots on its resume, which broke up Iraq and made it one of the unstable countries in the world ever since. Also, it had a dictatorial regime that controlled everything in the country. For example, owning cellphones was against the rules in Iraq (Yourish). Instead, it continued developing these kind of weapons ignoring all the friendly calls. After the first Gulf War, Saddam was told by the United Nations to destroy his chemical weapons (McGeary). Later on, the UN sent inspectors to Iraq to make sure that Saddam obeyed their orders. However, Saddam did not cooperate with the inspectors at first, but he did under a lot of pressure from the world’s strongest countries. In 1995, the inspectors found that Iraq had biological weapons, which are considered to be illegal according to the UN rules. After that, the UN cautioned Saddam that he had to destroy them as well as the chemical ones. In addition to that, it was noticed that Iraq was desiring more power considering nuclear beside the chemical and biological weapons. Some fears appeared about Iraq having deadly weapons since Iraq had a black history. For example, Iraq had many wars in the last century with its neighbors. Also, many evidence was found that proves that Iraq had supported terrorism after September 11. The US is leading a war against terrorists wherever they are since then. The country declared war against Israel in 1967, along with some other Arab countries, because of the Israel-Palestine case (“Iraq”). Some years later, the relations between Israel and some of the Arab countries got better. However, the relations between those countries with Iraq got worst since the regime thought that they betrayed Palestine. In 1980, Iraq declared war against Iran this time. The war continued for eight years and cost both countries a lot. Two years after the war had ended, Iraq invaded Kuwait because Kuwait increased its oil productions, which affected the Iraqi’s economy negatively during the war between Iraq and Iran. However, many Arab countries, the US, and the UN got upset by what Iraq did. That is when the First Gulf War happened. The war was led by the UN and supported by 38 countries, most of which are Arab countries. About five years before the 2003 war, the inspectors found some missiles that were loaded with fatal germs, which caused the US to fear that Iraq might use these missiles against its neighbors (McGeary). However, the regime was not that evil just to its neighbors. Saddam used chemical weapons to murder his own people. That is why Saddam’s government had been overthrown.
