In American History we are currently studying the concept of sectionalism. Sectionalism is division within a country based on regional beliefs and interests. In the early mid 1800’s, sectionalism in America as slavery divided the Nation. Slavery was ignored, compromised, and argued about by the states until the conflict drove our country into the Civil War. Although regional differences are not as distinct these days, many issues are currently causing division among the states and people of our country. These issues lead to what our history class describes as “modern sectionalism.” One such issue is Abortion.

I believe that every child should be able to live up to it’s full potential. I believe that abortions are a way of ruining that child’s potential to be something great because they never even had a chance in life to try and live up to that potential. I also believe that God makes women become pregnant for a reason. They were meant to become pregnant for the women who can’t get pregnant, so that they can do something with the kids that the parents do not want. I also believe that if the abortions have dropped the lowest they have ever been then, that should give us a hint that not many people are in need of them and we can get rid of …show more content…
I believe that nobody should be able to take the right away from a child’s life simply because they “don’t want a kid.” If they had decided that they didn’t want a child or were not comfortable/ready to have one, they should not have put themselves in the situation to even have a possibility of having one. People who have suffered rape are always open to adoption. Also, it’s not that if you have a child that you HAVE to keep it. There are people who would die to have a child and are not able to. Oklahoma has just passed a law that the father of the child has to approve of this abortion. I am with this even though I am against abortion. The reason I am okay with this and not just regular abortion is because the mother could be the only one wanting an abortion while the father does not want one. In this situation, if the father does not sign the papers, the baby is still able to live. If not and the baby is still terminated, I do not agree. In some cases like these, mothers will not even tell the father of the baby that they are pregnant and go get the pregnancy terminated. This makes the father unable to have any choice. With this law, the father will have a choice of what he believes is right and wants to do. My plan for this is to make mothers wanting the abortion to have to give a list of reasons about why this baby should be terminated. The list has to be specific and explain why the mother is unable to have the
From colonial times there were differences in geography that gave rise to variations in culture and economy in the United States. Due to the differing characteristics, a sectional economy molded the United States into two distinct regions: the north and the south. The north, a commercial society, which supported industry and commerce while the south, an agrarian civilization, flourished in the production of raw materials with use of slaves. The two economies were both self-supporting and capable to create a stronger, more productive nation. The regional differences sought to build America, in turn threatened to destroy it. Many Historians believe that the Civil War was constructed over the issue of slavery. However, the concerns of states'
Sectionalism was ultimately the main cause of the civil war. Sectionalism is occurs when an individual identifies with a geographic section of the United States based on their culture, social, economical, and political interests of that section. Sectionalism eventually caused the division of the nation, and created parts of the nation, which were the Union and the Confederation. As the tensions progressed, the government strived to unite the divided nation by establishing different legislation to satisfy each section; however, multiple historical events, such as the Election of Abraham Lincoln, the passing of the Kansas Nebraska Act, etc, interrupted the balancing act within the divided nation. The tensions between these sections eventually built up and caused the Civil War to occur. The Civil War was caused by the various economical differences within the nation, the conflict between the legality of slavery, and the political disputes in Congress over issues during that time.
Women, for centuries, have not been allowed to make decisions regarding their bodies. Finally, when the end of the fight is within reach, steps backward are taken. Oklahoma recently passed a bill requiring the father to approve an abortion procedure, the only time that the father’s permission is not required is in rape cases, and fetuses that have been diagnosed with down syndrome cannot be aborted. When asked about the bill, Oklahoma Rep. Justin Humphrey stated:
In contemporary America it can be argued that nothing is more contentious and controversial of an issue than abortion. From the vehement pro-life movement to the impassioned pro-choice coalition, this policy issue is one that has become increasingly important in our society. This debate has raised important questions regarding the value of human life, at what stage of development does a fetus have it’s constitutionally ensured rights take hold over that of the mother and at what stage can a state start regulating abortions.
In the early 1800s, the North began to industrialize and the South relied more heavily on growing cotton. At the same time, a rising sense of nationalism pulled people from different regions together. Nationalism is a feeling of pride, loyalty, and protectiveness toward your country. Sectionalism was when people had a feeling of pride in a small region or part of a nation. The War of 1812 sent a wave of nationalist feeling through the United States. Representative Henry Clay, from Kentucky, was a strong nationalist. After the war, President James Madison supported Clay’s plan to strengthen the country and unify its different regions. Nationalism and Sectionalism were present during the early 1800s. The people who carried out Nationalism had pride in their whole nation and the people who carried out Sectionalism had pride in part of a nation but, not the nation as a whole. Nationalists based their actions off trying to benefit the whole nation, the idea of nationalism was created to increase revenue in America. Sectionalism became a problem because Americans either saw themselves as southerners or northerners and the country became very divided. Sectionalism was one of the major reasons that the civil war began because of the divide between the south and the north. Sectional sentiments challenged nationalism, but the latter remained strong among the American people. Nationalism also prevailed due to the ideologies and actions of the country's leaders in the executive and
How did the sectional crisis begin? What one event triggered this crisis? While these are question commonly answered, it is up to interpretation of the conflicts between the North and South in order to decide which events caused the secession. There is not simply one event or conflict which resulted in the secession of the deep southern sates beginning in 1860 (Brands 2015, 333). As of February 1, 1860 seven southern states had seceded from the union due to the friction between Northern and Southerners. While some may argue that the sectional crisis is a result of the fight for power between the North and South; the sectional crisis can be attributed to three main factors and their effects on the nation, differences
As far back as 1640, slavery has been an issue in North America. Although there has been many opposing viewpoints on slavery, it didn’t end until the mid 1800’s, which is why it was a huge part in the sectionalism of the United States. Sectionalism is when an originally united nation begins to take opposing sides against each other and split up the once complete whole nation. When America expanded westward, there were many contributions, in addition to slavery, including: the Missouri Compromise, Manifest Destiny, and Tariff Abominations that caused sectionalism between the North and South to grow during 1800-1850.

The U.S is debating on should slavery be outlawed or allowed. People are supporting their region only. The U.S. will soon divide and war is about to break out. Sectionalism is loyalty to one's area, it exists because it ended the era of good feeling because the north and south disagreed about slavery and tariffs. Sectionalism led to Social and Economic conflicts in the early-mid 1800’s that resulted in the outbreak of war.
There were many things that lead the nation to a Civil War, but there were 3 major things that made the North and South increase the sectionalism between them. Before the war, the North and South still fought peacefully over slavery but as time went on, sectionalism grew. With each new thing that came up, the sectionalism grew so much that it eventually lead to a Civil War. There were 3 significant events that increased sectionalism between the North and South and led the nation to a Civil War. A political event that happened was the Kansas-Nebraska Act/Bleeding Kansas.
What was the background of the civil war? What were the causes for the civil war?
Someone once said,“Being pro choice doesn’t mean you would have an abortion. It just means you think the choice is yours, not the government's. In the New York Times editorial written on June 27, 2016, entitled, “ A Major Victory for Abortion Rights,” the writers are targeting young women can understand that the choice of abortion should be in the women's hands. This article is about keeping abortion legal in America, but primarily Texas. The writer's emotional appeals, word choices, and logic to successfully encourage the readers.
Sectionalism, in it’s earliest American state was found in the early 1800’s. Tensions were high during this time, with Slavery becoming a much more Sectional issue. The South claimed Slavery a Necessary Evil, and that without it, the South’s economy would collapse. Many in the South believed it was a positive thing, providing slaves with shelter, food, and many cases, religion. On the opposite side, many northerners called for Abolition, or, the end of slavery (“Course Notes, Sectionalism and Slavery”).
These issues lead to what our history class describes as ¨ Modern Sectionalism.¨ One such issue is Abortion. In the article¨Abortion.procon.¨The author began by saying,In the first paragraph it explains. It stats that the killing of
The stance I take is that abortion should be illegal. Only under the following circumstances should a fetus be possibly subject to abortion: if a woman is raped, if the child will absolutely not live when it is born, or if there is a severe genetic malfunction in which the fetus will not be able to function once born. If you want to get an abortion because you are not ready to take care of a baby, because you “accidentally” got pregnant, or because you thought you wanted a child and decided it was not right for you, it is unacceptable. When a person decides to have sex, they must realize that a possible consequence is to become pregnant, and although the man does not have to give birth, he takes full responsibility of making sure that baby is fully supported. If you cannot handle it, you should not be having sex.
