As told by the United Nations, sex trafficking is “the recruitment, transportation, transfer, and harboring or receipt of persons, by means of threat, use of force, or other forms”; this is the idea of moving and selling goods by an action known as sexual exploitation (WHO, pg. 1). The idea of sex trafficking can be broken down into two different feminist views: a Radical feminist or a Liberal feminist. Radical feminists believe that the definition of sex trafficking applies to all people associated with prostitution; Prostitution can be described as an act where sexual favors are being exchanged for sums of money (O’Neil, pg. 123-137). On the other hand, Liberal feminists believe that sex work is related to debt-like situations and is used as a tool for freedom. The main …show more content…

A strict conclusion can be drawn while examining this at a human rights perspective. With an elaborate history of women selling their bodies, along with pre existing power dynamics in society, as well as the present gender issues occurring that have a extensive mental affect on women, the focus of sex trafficking can be seen as more of a gendered issue, rather than an economic issue.
Sexual trafficking is not an action dedicated to a specific area, it is globalized, occurring in various parts of the world, including the United States. Before trafficking had evolved, a more common use of transportation and usage of humans had occurred; slavery originated a bit earlier than the 1400s, sparking the evolution of human labor. The African Slave Trade is not something unheard of; after the colonization of Europeans in Africa, human labor was forced upon the natives of the country. From that moment, slavery had gradually developed into what is known today as human trafficking.
