Shift from fossil fuel should be made mandatory
Imagine waking up everyday looking for an umbrella to protect you from the scorching sun and a breathing mask to put over your face to support you in breath clean air. Not only for a period of time but forever, because the air is heavily polluted and the sun is always super hot, that people only ventured out during night hours. These are some of the warning the environmental activist fear could be were we are heading as inhabitants of this planet earth. The first reason why shift from fossil fuel should be mandatory, it is because, according to the research done by environmental scientist on global warming causes and effect. Experts warn the amount of carbon dioxide produced is increasing at an alarming rate, and many applied methods to curb green house gasses and use of fossil fuel turned out to make less of a difference than common sense would suggest. As the world celebrates the year of forest, lead by the United Nation, to promote conservation. Thousand of square miles of woodland are being destroyed to make room for palm oil and soybeans plantations, cattle farming and urban dwelling suburbs. Deforestation threatens a delicate balance on earth atmosphere. Plant use carbon dioxide to synthesis their nutrient and in return releases oxygen. But with dead woodland on large acres of land, the amount carbon dioxide in the air keep rising threatening the Earth’s lungs and other living creature that depends on oxygen to survive. The U.S obtains more than 84% of its energy from fossil fuels including oil, coal and natural gas. This is because people rely on it to heat their homes, power industries, run vehicles, manufacturing, and provision of electricity. It is apparent that the country’s transportation industry highly depends on conventional petroleum oil, which is responsible for global warming, thus threatening economic opulence and national security. Apart from that, increasing consumption of fossil fuels have elevated health problems in the state, destroyed wild places, and polluted the environment. After conducting Environmental Impact Assessment, projections showed that the world energy consumption would increase by more than 56% between 2010 and 2040. However, fossil fuels will cater for more than 80% of the total energy used in 2040. Sadly, it will be a trajectory to alter the world’s climate, as well as, weaken the global security environment. Fossil fuels have been used in the United States of America for hundreds of years as a source of energy to power machinery and to do a lot of work more efficiently. If they had not been easily monetized, they would not be so important to the United States’ economy as they are now, but does their effectiveness as an energy source outweigh the damaging effects that burning fossil fuels has on the world? Texas alone emits 641 million metric tons of carbon dioxide, which is not only a massive amount, but also doubles the amount produced by California, the second largest carbon producer in the country (Magill, “Texas, California Lead Nation in Carbon Emissions”). Carbon dioxide is the emission of humans breathing as well, so this may not seem so important at first, but the production of it not only by people, but by industrial factories, transportation, and electricity production, which all can use the combustion of fossil fuels, is poisonous to life on Earth and is slowly heating up the planet. The rising levels of heat due to fossil fuel emissions can have devastating effects on the environment and often leads to the kinds of extreme weather situations that were previously mentioned.

This is an excellent example of humans ecological footprint. We as humans have many things that operate on many non renewable resources that are leaving a harmful effect on the environment. This is done by the use of fossil fuels. When fossil fuels such as gasoline are burned they produce co2. This is very harmful because the co2 becomes trapped in the atmosphere. This thickens the atmosphere in a sense, and does not allow heat to escape as easily. This is what is thought to be causing global warming, and could lead to some disastrous changes. With the supply of fossil fuels steadily declining, gas and oil is becoming harder to harvest which means it is getting more expensive. Fossil fuels take millions of years to be naturally produced, yet each person burns gallons of gas per day (Maehlum par. 5). Though fossil fuels are produced naturally, when burned they release nitrogen oxides gases into the atmosphere, which contributes to the formation of smog and acid rain. According to the EPA, major sources of these nitrogen oxide emissions come from cars and trucks, coal-fire powered plants, large industrial operations, and ships and airplanes (EPA par 3). By reducing the number of gas powered cars on the road, we can reduce the amount of harmful chemicals we are releasing into our atmosphere.

When fossil fuels are burnt, the c02 is released into the atmosphere rapidly, and the c02 cycle doesn’t have enough time to get the c02 out of the atmosphere. This c02 traps the heat from coming out of the atmosphere and creates global warming. Global warming is serious because it melts the ice cap, removes habitas, raises sea levels and many other negative effects. A good way to stop this environmental hazard is to use green energy. Instead of burning coal and natural gas, we can use more wind turbines, hydro-electric dams and other green electricity options. We also need to research solar panels more, so we can make them more efficiant. If we start to do this, the c02 outtake would be significantly decreased and the world will be a better place to live
Fossil fuels are a major contributor to global warming. The use of oil, gas and coal is the enormous to fuel our transportation, warm our houses, and run our businesses. To begin with, oil is found in almost every area of our lifes. From the beginning of when we find oil to when we throw an oil product away we are adding to global warming. When they find oil, they get it out of the ground. When they get it out of the ground, they pollute the environment by using machinery. The machinery pollutes the air because the carbon monoxide is given off from the machines goes into our atmosphere. If they are “mining” the oil then large amounts of the land is destroyed and will take man, many years to grow again. Again the machinery that is used to strip the oil from the land pollutes the air with its carbon monoxide. The process that is used to take the oil out of the sand also pollutes the air. In addition to that, any of the products that are made from oil result in pollution in the way of factories putting smoke into the air.
