Short Story Mary Maloney

Decent Essays

Mary Maloney, a wife, a mother to be, and now a murderer. It was yet another Thursday night in a steady routine the couple had. Mary awaited her husband happily going about her sewing and eager to show him her affection. She had no reason to suspect the news her husband would return home with. The same news that would eventually cost him his life.
To begin with, Mary and Patrick were well off and expecting a child together. Anyone who knew them before this vulgar incident would say they were happy. The defendant could not have foreseen Patrick’s infidelity. There was no motive for murder until that evening in which Patrick discussed with Mary the situation at hand. Patrick had assured Mary that he would give her money and see that she was looked after. He was attempting to make peace and make up for the damage he had done. What a good soul, one the selfish Mary Maloney took from us.
Afterwards, as Mary headed to prepare a dinner Patrick had clearly stated he did not want, she processed the information. She was slightly shaken, as anyone would be, and payed no attention to the object she took from the freezer. The object that ended up in the malicious minded woman’s hands was a leg of lamb, the perfect murder weapon able to shatter one’s skull. The lamb was meant to satisfy her husband yet it did quite the opposite.
A few minutes later, Mary returned to find Patrick facing away from her and had an evil idea to ensure he would never leave her nor their unborn child for someone else. She glanced at the chunk of rock solid meat in her hands and forms her murderous plan right then and there, she is angry but not stupid. She knows how to get away with this, she has the mind of a criminal. She has lethal intentions and she knows very well that bringing the meat down upon Patrick’s head will satisfy those intentions. The next move she made is the one that shattered our beloved Mr. Maloney’s skull ending his life. Mrs. Maloney did not panic, she had already thought of her next moves. It was all a game for her and she knew how to win. She thought to herself, “So I’ve killed him.” No remorse and no regret. She established her alibi, called the police, and lied to their faces.
