A/N: Continuing because I’m inspired to. For those of you reading my other ‘in progress’ stories I promise that I will return to them. I just did a lot of writing in July (51k+ of original fiction for Camp NaNo) and I got out of the groove for the stories that are still in progress. But, while I’m working on those, have some of my favorite pairing! @ Pam: It does suck what the way the Guard treats women. I got the idea from my friend who served in the Marines. She went through all that training . . . to sit behind a desk and do clerical work. 24-Hour Coffee Shop Tauriel stares at the television. She is watching it, but not watching at the same time. She had gone to bed when she got home from her shift, but she had woken up a few hours ago and had not yet changed out of her …show more content…
“I doubt that he’ll reply. He’s probably thought better of asking out an ex-Guard who works in a coffee shop for a living now by now.” “Frodo hasn’t been practicing at home,” Bilbo explains. “I keep telling him that he needs to, but . . .” Bilbo spreads his hands wide and shakes his head. “He play with Bain sometime. I can hardly make Bain eat sometimes. He almost has the stupid ball attached to him at all times. He keep trying to teach Til and Sigrid how to play. They have no interest in it. Maybe when they’re older, but not now.” Bard stretches his arms out in front of him. He had discarded his tie right after work; the jacket had waited until he was sitting on the bleaches watching Bain’s soccer practice. He has rolled his sleeves up as far as he can. His shoes and socks sit on the bench next to him, his pants cuffed up, and his bare feet resting on the bench in front of him. Bilbo snorts at the thought of Sigrid in her fancy dresses kicking a muddy ball around a pitch. “I’m sure that Frodo would like that. I’ll have to pry his fingers off the game controller first, but after that I’m sure he’d have fun.” Bard grins. “I take it that he is adjusting well
Bilbo speaks for himself in this quote. He is not there to be someone’s tag along. He has a mind of his own and knows what is right and wrong. He also yearns for the safety and comfort of his own home when thrown into the midst of a sticky situation. I can say that Bilbo is a very convincing being.
Bilbo Baggins was a timid hobbit that lived in a small hole and kept to himself. Not until a wizard named Gandalf persuaded him to go on an adventure with himself and a group of dwarves. The dwarves weren’t very fond of Bilbo coming with them, but they would have to put up with it. Bilbo left the luxury of his home to join their quest, not knowing the dangers that lie ahead. But, Bilbo still proved quite a brave hobbit when faced against challenges. He explored a side of himself he had never explored before! Whether is was battling against an army of spiders, or an army of goblins, Bilbo never ceased to exceed the dwarves’ expectations. They eventually gave him respect and honored him. “They knew only
Baggins. He felt a different person, and much fiercer and bolder in spite of an empty stomach” (Tolkien 141-142). This event has led to Bilbo beginning to believe in himself, which is an important contribution to his overall development into the hero of this tale. Finally, when Bilbo is met with the task of meeting the dragon Smaug, he does not turn back. Even when he must walk alone through the dark, secluded hallway to Smaug’s lair knowing that he could meet his doom at any instant, he walked on. His internal being knows this is his final test of courage, and his will to carry on demonstrates his final development into a hero.
In conclusion, we can now see that Bilbo is in fact a dynamic character. He gains many qualities he can use in the future, like courage, learning to use his wits, and letting out the adventurous side in him. He used to be almost paranoid, to himself, and strict. But now he has turned into something much bigger, an adventurer. So the adventure changed him for the better. This is how Bilbo Baggins, the hobbit we thought would never do anything
Like all archetypal heroes, Frodo begins in an ordinary world. He lives in the Shire with family and close friends. He does not seek adventure, and he is content to sit, smoke a pipe, and tell stories. He receives his call to adventure when Gandalf shows up and asks him to carry the ring to flames of Mount Doom. The ring has been causing a disturbance in Middle Earth, and Gandalf believes Frodo can handle the challenge. Frodo is reluctant to answer the call. He is comfortable and happy, and the journey
Bilbo meets various races along his journey to the Lonely Mountains. When the dwarves sent Bilbo up to explore the light in the forest Bilbo already wants to prove that he is a value to the group and tried to impress them. Going toward the light in the forest, he sees that there are three trolls. In an attempt to impress he tries to steal a wallet from one of the trolls, Bilbo is showing a very highly admired virtue and that is courage. “Then Bilbo plucked
The sense of danger increases and, once again, Bilbo thinks of home. Gandalf warns them that they are at the edge of the Wild and that they can stay with his friend Elrond in Rivendell. That is just the second way that steps outside of his comfort zone.
Bilbo’s story is a story of a hero’s journey. From his origins we do not see that Bilbo likes to go on adventures. However, his mother’s side of the family got the best of him and he does decide to go on the adventure. We will look at his call to adventure and why he decided to go on the trip. Next, we will look at Bilbo and the weapons and supernatural help he used. The final aspect we’ll look at is Bilbo’s trials and transformations and goals during Tolkien’s The Hobbit.
Have you ever had to step out of your comfort zone? I think we all have had to be adventurous and try something that we might have never done before once in our lives. Bilbo Baggins sure has had to be adventurous and outgoing on many different occasions. The reason why he has had to do this is because of the Tookish side of him. Some instances where Bilbo stepped out of his comfort zone would be when he had tea with Gandalf and the other dwarves, which he did not invite, when he went on the adventure with Gandalf and the dwarves, and when he found Gollum’s ring and kept it.
I had the privilege to meet with an officer who served in Iraq war and was willingly happy to share a few of her experiences from basic training to combat, behind a closed door. Over all, once she had proven herself to her platoon, she was treated as an equal. She commented on topics such as the backpack weighs 70 pounds and designed for males. The strap in the front rubs on the collar bones on a different location. Process improvement women now place a
Bilbo will soon discover what that truly means.
When Bilbo Baggins faces conflicts, he pretends to act scared and surprised. First of all, when
To conclude, all people need a little adventure in their life, whether it is something big or small. Bilbo Baggins used to be someone who would always stay indoors, and definitely was not fond of leaving the comfort of his house. This all changed when a bunch of dwarves and Gandalf unexpectedly showed up and dragged Bilbo along on their adventure to reclaim their stolen gold. After this, Bilbo has showed much more of his Tookish side. This includes when Bilbo heard the dwarves song, when moon letters were discovered on the map, and with his life on the line, he and gollum played the riddle
When it comes to combat assignments and the needs of the military, men take precedence over all other considerations, including career prospects of female service members. Female military members have been encouraged to pursue opportunities and career enhancement within the armed forces, which limit them only to the needs and good of the service due to women being not as “similarly situated” as their male counterparts when it comes to strength or aggressiveness, and are not able to handle combat situations.
This paper will point out the discrimination of women in the U.S. military. The paper will describe the sexual harassment that is constantly occurring and has been increasing in counts over the past twenty or so years. It will involve many debates about whether women should be in combat role or not and how that history shows that women have already been around the harshness of warfare. Then bringing up, if women are not able to be away from home with just a big time job how will they be able to react to being on the front lines in combat.
