The plot progression of a tragedy should be rather specific under the idea which leads, ultimately, to the downfall of the protagonist. Shirley Jackson employs fairytale and witchcraft into the story through imagery and symbolism presented by Merricat in order to convey the psychoanalytic effects of ignorance and isolation.

It can be argued, because of the use of literary devices, that there are those science fiction novels that definitely reach the level anyone would consider literature, and among these is a book from Phillip K.
