Of course gay marriage affects society is several ways. Society has always looked upon gay marriage as between a man and a woman, by legalizing same-sex marriage the traditional idea of marriage is revised. If same-sex marriage is legal, should it be taught about in schools? Matt Stick asks interesting questions in his article “How could gay marriage harm anyone?” He brings up the question of “If a parent objects to a school teaching pro-homosexuality and pulls his child out of school and because of it is ridiculed and/or jailed, is he harmed?” Many people who are on the conservative side don’t want their children being exposed to learning about homosexuality. She states that it promotes equality and a non discriminatory society. It reduces homophobia, which helps support the cultural diversity that America is known for. She also says that it lets LGBT (lesbian, gay, bi, transgender) people live their live to the fullest, without having to worry about being given basic human rights. In America, people are being affected by same-sex marriage every day. The more it occurs, the more people get used to it. Eileen Reynolds states that “58% of Americans believe that gay and lesbian relations are morally acceptable, up from 38% in 2002.” “A whooping 90% of Americans support protections from discrimination for gay and lesbian employees.” The percentages have gone up drastically from the early 2000’s and continues to increase.

Part 4 An organization that aids to this conflict of same-sex marriage is Equaltyfederation.org. Their goal is to work towards achieving equality for Lesbians, Gays, Bi-sexuals, and Transgenders. They have numerous projects to help the cause. One is called the Fairness Project which was created in 1980 and still continues to this day. Their job is to make sure all LGBT people are safe from discrimination. Another project is the State Leadership Project, which works towards creating strong leaders who will publicize their organizations and continue the movement.
