Similarities And Differences Between Northern And Southern Colonies

New England consisted of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and New Hampshire. While the southern colonies were Maryland, Virginia, South Carolina and Georgia. Even though both of them were in the New World they differ religiously, economically, socially and politically. Both, New England and Southern colonies, made an impact on the development of culture.

There are similarities and differences of the geography of New England and Southern colonies. The South had mild, rainy winters and long hot humid summers. This means,the South could grow many crops. According to “A Virginia Plantation,” the south had lots of plantations with tobacco and corn (Doc 6). However, New England had long cold winters and a short growing season. This means New England did not grow as many crops as the South. Instead, many colonists had small farms for their family or community. Therefore, the differences in geography helped to shape the development of the New England and Southern regions.

To start it off they were located on opposite sides so they had different climates, the New England Colony was located in the North so there was stronger and longer winters while in the Southern Colonies, which was located in the south, so it was hotter and it was practically warm all year round. That led to different agricultural needs, the southern colony was huge on agriculture because they had fertile soil so they produced a lot of cash crops and were know for the tobacco, produced and exported by John Rolfe. Since the New England Colonies didn’t have much use for agriculture because they lacked good soil so there wasn’t many crops, they mostly fished, build ships, and traded mostly with fur. That leads to slavery, since the southern plantations required a lot of work there was a lot more slaves in the south then the north. Southern Colonies had the largest slave population who worked on the Slave Plantations, which grew cotton, tobacco, indigo (a purple dye), and other crops. Also religion was very different, the New England Colonies were strictly Puritans and didn’t tolerate other religions; while the Southern colonies were not dominated by a single religion they were mostly predominantly Anglicans and

The colonies of the south and the New England had one similarity; there relationship with the natives. Both of the colonies had very bad relations with the natives. The south needed the native land for tobacco plantations, which caused a lot of conflict between the two groups. The conflict escalated to the point where the southerners gave the natives blankets

The colonies in the New World appeared completely different and the prospect of any unity between them seemed impossible. The colonies in New England and the Chesapeake exemplify the many differences in the culture and lifestyles of the settlers, created mainly because of the fact that their founding fathers had held separate intentions when they came to the New World.

The seventeenth and eighteenth centuries were an exciting period of time for the thirteen British colonies that would eventually become The United States of America. This time period saw the development of the colonies into self-sufficient entities, which would ultimately lead to the American Revolution. Although every colony was unique, there were similarities in the colonies that were close to each other geographically. Today, the colonies are grouped together into the New England colonies, the Middle colonies, and the Southern colonies. Socially the three groups of colonies developed differently. The New England Colonies life was dominated by the Puritan religion.

Both the New England colonies and the Southern colonies seemed as though they might be the same. They both started out with the majority of people being from England, they were both in the New World, and they were both ruled by England but, as time went on this theory was proven wrong. The New England colonies and the Southern colonies had many common characteristics but these two regions were very different geographically, politically, and socially.

By the 1700’s, The northern and souther colonies had evolved into two distinct societies. This is so because the northern and southern colonies had different environments and also different reasons of settlement. The North was established for mainly religious freedom, while on the other hand, the south had been established for economic freedom. The climate also affected the different turnout of the north and the south. The north was much colder and so their soil was not beneficial for farming, so the people of the north found other jobs, while on the other side, the south had rich soil and the colonists there used that idea to set up huge plantations and farms.

In 1607 a group of English settlers built village in Jamestown, Virginia. King Jaime I of England founded a colony in the first seven months after its arrival. Within these colonies we find the New England colonies and South Carolina colonies. We will analyze and compare the government systems, religious and economic development of both colonies and how they were related.

During the 18th century differences in life, thought, and interests had developed between the Southern and Northern colonies. The origin of these differences grew from the differences in religion, economics, and social structures between the Southern and Northern Colonies. Slavery, manufacturing, education, and agriculture influenced the everyday way of life for the colonists. This has had everlasting effects on America till this day.

In the past historians have written that the regions of Chesapeake and New England are extremely different, but still have something in common. Accordingly, they are found in their times of origination, they were both founded around the same time and also by the same people. Ultimately, they have both accepted Protestantism and the colonies both speak English. One major similarity is that they haven't forgotten who and where they came from, England, they still pledge allegiance to one crown. Like any other colony, they have created a society where both have been slow to establish social status. Unlike New England in Chesapeake a governing power tried to create a feudal system but the colonies shit it down quite fast. Notably they both have put themselves into a social group and no outside force trying to sway the people's social ranking placement.

Demographically, the colonies started with an overwhelming white population over the blacks, but as the tobacco industry grew and slavery became an increasing practice, blacks began to outnumber the white population.

During the late 16th century and into the 17th century, two colonies emerged from England in the New World. The two colonies were called the Chesapeake and New England colonies. Even though the two areas were formed and governed by the English, the colonies had similarities as well as differences. Differences in geography, religion, politics, economic, and nationalities, were responsible for molding the colonies. These differences came from one major factor: the very reason the English settlers came to the New World. 
The Chesapeake colonies were primarily created by companies interested in profiting from the natural resources of the New World such as gold or silver to bring back to England. The New England colonies were primarily created to escaped religious persecution and set up a haven for people of their faith. The inhabitants of the New England area were far healthier. Their clean water supply was a sharp contrast to the contaminated waters of Chesapeake Bay. The cool climate had a good impact on colonists because it prevented the spread of life-threatening diseases. Because of New England’s cool climate, many people died during severe winters. Chesapeake’s climate had positive and negative factors as well. The warm, moist climate in the Chesapeake colonies carried diseases that killed many of the colonists. In contrast to the New England colonists, the Chesapeake colonists did not have to worry as much about surviving cold winters. The natural resources of the

In the early 17th century, English countries were looking for new land to control. This was due to overpopulation and a dearth food supply. The British needed a new place to claim as their own so they could accommodate their ever-growing populace and after Christopher Columbus expedited North American exploration of the Eastern world, many citizens shipped off to form the Jamestown colony in 1607, marking the beginning of an exploration era. By the end of the seventeenth century, as many as 295,000 people shipped off to the Atlantic coast of North America (Pursuit of Happiness). As the colonists expanded past Jamestown, there were noticeable differences in the two areas were colonists lived. They developed differently through the century because the contrasting foundations they were morally different. The New Englanders fixated on seeking personal piety and a strong community while the Southern colonies' motives predicated mercantilism.
