Both Chris McCandless and Adam Shepard endured a rough adventure as they both left home to go on their own journey. Adam Shepard had a different goal than Chris McCandless, He wanted to know if the American Dream was still an achievable goal when you have nothing to start out with. Chris McCandless just wanted to leave home and be as far away from his parents as he could. Adam Shephard’s project left a bigger impact on people rather than Chris McCandless who went on an adventure just to go and do what he wanted which ended up getting him killed. Out of both men only one was prepared. Adam shepard was prepared for what was coming forth on his journey to achieve the American Dream. In the book “Scratch Beginning” by Adam Shepard, Shepard
“The moral of this story is that no matter how much we try, no matter how much we want it…some stories just don’t have a happy ending.”(Picoult). In “Into the Wild” by John Krakauer, it is obvious that his and Chris McCandless’ story are very similar. He can relate to Chris and almost looks up to him and it’s quite easy to see that. By looking at the author's own journey compared to McCandless’, their similarities, and their shared experiences, it’s easy to see that they both had similar journeys, and they both experienced a transcendental awakening but one journey ended in triumph while the other ended in tragedy.
Lastly, Chris Mccandless got to fulfill his dream, live his own life, and now he even got to find his inner self, find out who he truly is. Chris was the kind of person that lived dangerously unlike most people, he was different “It is hardly unusual for a young man to be drawn to a pursuit considered reckless by his elders...Danger has always held a certain allure. McCandless, in his fashion, merely took risk-taking to its logical extreme” (Krakauer, 182). Chris’s true self-was one that was riskful and daring until he could finish the task. Furthermore, he was different from others and throughout his journey, others could see that. In the end that was the kind of person Chris Mccandless was, and this is the person he became after fulfilling his dream and living his own life. In contrast, others did
Every year in the 1980’s around 150,000 people went missing. (Missing) Everett Ruess was a very lonely and self centered person. He was born in 1914 and disappeared in 1934 never to be seen again, he was only twenty years old. There are many theories and suspicions as to how he died but no one knows for sure
The story of Chris McCandless has become a pop culture phenomenon. Many are fascinated by his desire to abandon his family and society and “walk into the wild” (Krakauer 69). Newscasts, magazine articles, movies, and books have tried to define what motivated him to give up everything for his Alaskan odyssey; however, the answers died with McCandless. People make assumptions about him without knowing his entire story. McCandless chose to do the unconventional, making people think he was either foolish or brave and determined, but ultimately he was selfish for doing what he did.
There is no question that Chris McCandless had reason for the courageous, difficult, or some may even call suicidal stunt he pulled. Throwing away your education, giving up your most precious possessions, and burning all the money in your wallet must have a purpose behind it. McCandless was the type of person who would rather give than receive and did not like having things done for him and demonstrated strong characteristics of being independent. Although, out of the thousands of reasons that could have drawn him to make this drastic decision I believe it was literary influences and his philosophical beliefs that impacted his choice the most.
How did Adam Brown the main character in the book “Fearless” achieved his “American dream” is the way he moved people, like on one can, which he wanted. He showed people that no matter in what situation he overcame, that obstacle with the faith of God, then lead people towards faith. He had a whole life going and didn’t see it until he started overcoming them and shooting for higher things, and testing his strength and weakness as a person; then building himself also others into a stronger person but their more to him then what we know.
Lastly, having Chris McCandless as a role model to a change in society should be known an honored. If we can get people today not to depend on such dire need of technology sights for people to see will open up to minds that there is a whole other world more then technology can make. McCandless didn’t like how citizens lived with little to no risk, and how one really took a deeper to whats beyond the door to your risk. There are many other portions of the world that are worth seeing. McCandless climbed Mt. McKinley and saw what its like to see the world in a different angle. Learning from McCandless its like being taken back to the Indians where they didn’t have technology to help themselves they did it on their own. McCandless went on a outstanding,
One difference between Adam Shepard was twenty- three when he left and Christopher McCandless was twenty-two and had just graduated from college. McCandless was an all A student and so was Adam. McCandless had the best personality and could make people happy effortless. He did it because he knew it made them feel good he liked to make people happy happy and didn’t want anything in return at all. He once told jan and rainey “He didn’t need money it made people cautious”. He did everything he did because he lived his whole life doing what his parents wanted him to do but now that he was emancipated from that world of abstraction. Falso security, parents and material excess, the things that cut chris off from the truth of his existence. Chris lived for happiness and making those around him happy and being happy came with fun and living life however it pleased you. As said in the movie “It should not be denied that being footloose has always exhilarated us. It is associated in our minds with escape from history, oppression and law irksome obligations. Absolute freedom and the road has always led
In 1992, when Chris McCandless abandoned modern society and fled to Alaska to find himself and, in the long run, lose his life, Americans from all over saw his death as a tragic downfall, and his story as a relatable and moving tale of a young man simply trying to make a difference. On the other hand, others looked at his journey to be an inevitable suicide-trip, considering his lack of supplies and overall experience. However, despite the fact that he was unprepared, McCandless, because of his ideas and motivation for a better world, was justified in shunning society in order to pursue his dream life on the Alaskan frontier.
In Jon Krakauer’s nonfiction book, Into the Wild, we follow how humans love the wilderness, the strain of father son relationships, and for the majority of the book a young adult named Chris McCandless. We see mostly through Chris’ eyes just how much the wilderness can entice young adults as well as how important crushing news of one’s father can change your life. McCandless was an angry pseudo adult who couldn’t handle a sizeable change in his life. He was too stuck on it being his way that he rarely could bring himself to accept help and improve his ability to actually survive. However, there was some good about McCandless. His search for himself and the truth were great intentions despite the flawed approach.
Freedom and Nature. These are both things Chris McCandless longed to dwell in. He took his steps into becoming everying thing he had hoped. But were his dreams and aspirations worth the ‘’Betrayal” of everyone who had ever cared about him? Do we owe our families anything in the first place? By looking at McCandless’s actions and reasonings we can see that he is justified solely on his passion and courage. People would like to say that he was irresponsible, ignorant and careless in his actions. However, all he wanted was complete freedom. He didn’t have to be sorry for anyone just because he was letting his heart guide the way.
Chris Mccandless thought about life very deeply and lived by standards set in many of
Chris McCandless to me was a very intelligent but stubborn man. He didn’t care about how his family felt. All along his quest to the stampede trail Chris was kind to strangers and others but neglected the fact that his family back home worried about him. In the end Chris became at one with nature but realized that his surroundings (meaning family
Chris McCandless and Galileo Galilei are very similar people. The way they think, act, and associate with society shows you how similar they are. However, they are also very different. Chris likes to explore the outdoors and does not like school, while Galileo would prefer to stay indoors and continue to further educate himself. They are in many ways similar and different.
During 1893, in Rhineland, Wisconsin a mythical beast had emerged from the wilderness. Eugene Shepard, who was a local resident and elder in Rhineland, was out on his weekly hike when he stumbled across an odd creature. This creature was green, about a foot tall, seven feet long, and weighed about 200 hundred pounds. It had razor sharp teeth like a saber tooth tiger, white long claws, spikes of all sizes running all down its spine, and red glowing eyes that one could not help but stare into. Not sure what to do, Shepard hurried back to town to tell everyone his discovery. Town folk and lumberjacks gathered weapons, guns, and dogs to search for this newly discovered Hodag. He led his group to his normal hiking trail, but instead of finding the
