Within “Romeo and Juliet,” there is a multitude of characters. The characters belong in the play belong to either the Capulet or the Montague family, within the two families each character has distinct traits that differ one character from the other, but despite these differences they share similar traits. Two characters that share similarities, despite their distinct differences, are Nurse and Lady Capulet. Lady Capulet is the mother of Juliet, but despite their familial bond the two are not close and act awkwardly with each other. In one scene, the Juliet asks her mother for advice, regarding marrying Paris, but Lady Capulet simply states that she married at an age younger than Juliet, showing indifference towards Juliet’s hesitance and fear. Also, Lady Capulet obedient to her husband and his orders because when Juliet shows defiance against her father, Lord Capulet, she goes to her mother. Juliet does this in hopes that she can talk to her father about making her punishment less strict, but Lady Capulet refuses to speak with Juliet. …show more content…
The for their strong bond is because when Juliet was younger, Nurse was Juliet’s wet nurse and Nurse cares for Juliet looks after her as she grows older. Although the relationship between Juliet and Nurse is trusting in the beginning, it begins to shift into something that resembles Juliet and Lady Capulet’s relationship, distant. This occurs when Nurse tells Juliet to leave Romeo and marry Paris because Nurse believes Paris will provide a better future for her. Nurse’s reasoning, like Lady Capulet’s reason to some extent, is for Juliet’s future and
In the scene of the Nurse, Lady Capulet and Juliet, it shows that the Nurse knows more about Juliet than Juliet’s own mother when Lady Capulet didn’t know her age. Even though Juliet and Lady Capulet are related by blood, the Nurse is more of a mother to Juliet than her. Another significant thing about this is that Lady Capulet looks at Juliet like an object just to get
The nurse, throughout the story, acts like a best friend to juliet, and sometimes a motherly figure in replacement of Lady Capulet. While one of her main purposes is comic relief, Juliet looks up to her and she becomes one of the only people to know of Juliet’s relationship with Romeo. The nurse seems supportive, but her opinions of Romeo seem to change after the news comes of Tybalt’s death, when she says “Romeo can, While Heaven cannot. O’Romeo, Romeo! Who would have thought it? Romeo!” The nurse indirectly states her new distaste for Romeo, making Juliet mad. Juliet feels betrayed by this sudden outburst. Later, when the Capulets try to force Juliet into a marriage with Paris, The nurse reveals that she believes “I think you are happy in this second match, for it excels your first; or if it did not, Your first is dead- or ‘twere as good he were As living here and you no use of him.”(656). This is the second time that Juliet has been betrayed by the nurse, someone who she used to confide in and
The Character of the Nurse in Romeo and Juliet The Nurse has a very important role in the play, being Juliet’s closest friend and helping her in her illicit relationship with Romeo. Her position in the Capulet household is superior to that of a normal servant. She is very familiar when she talks to Lady Capulet, and at times oversteps the mark. She talks about the daughter she once had and lost, and it is evident that Juliet is like a replacement and the Nurse lavishes all her motherly love and protectiveness on Juliet.
In the play, Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, a prolonged and bitter quarrel between the Montague and Capulet families disturb the city of Verona and causes tragedies for Romeo and dear Juliet. Revenge, love, and a secret marriage force the young lovers to grow up quickly, and fate causes them to commit suicide in despair. The Nurse is an important character in the classic drama Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. She is the personal servant and guardian (and former wet nurse) of Juliet Capulet and has been since Juliet was born. Later on in the play when Juliet figures out that her parents expect her to marry Paris, the Nurse tries to get the Juliet to go on ahead with the marriage. Even though Juliet was already married to Romeo, the Nurse felt as if Juliet would never see her true love Romeo again. Following this, Juliet felt betrayed and decides never to share any more of her secrets with the Nurse.
The nurse and Juliet have a relationship that goes way back. The nurse has raised many capulet kids including juliet, she is like a mother figure to juliet and even Lady capulet recognises that. “This is the matter:-nurse give leave awhile, we must talk in secret:-nurse come back again;...” Lady capulet realized that the nurse knows alot more about juliet the she does herself. This shows that the nurse and juliet have a very close relationship.
2. The nurse is shown as a kind-hearted woman. She wants the best for Juliet's life. When lady Capulet asks Juliet about the marriage, the nurse said that Juliet is yet really young and she should think about it. This shows how the nurse cares about Juliet just as a mother’s responsibility and understands Juliet.
Romeo and Juliet From William Shakespeare Romeo and Juliet is the most famous love story in the English literary tradition. The most important theme is love, specifically, love at first sight between Romeo and Juliet. I chose to write about the Nurse because she is the personal servant, guardian and former wet nurse of Juliet Capulet, and has been with Juliet since she was born. This character played a strong part in allowing Romeo and Juliet’s relationship to grow and their passion to become stronger because she sends the letters to Romeo and helped them arrange their secret marriage. She also affected the tragic ending because she did not intervene when Juliet was to marry Paris. Because of the fight between the Capulets and the Montagues,
The nurse is the one that inconerges there young love and keeps it a secret hurting them in the long run. She does not shut down there love for he is the opposing family and knows that their families would not allow the relationship to happen. Also with the nurse she gives juliet the advice and place to marry Romeo. The nurse also with the nurse she tell juliet to marry Paris with the knowledge of her relationship.
She shows blatant disregard for a story that all loving parents can hear hundreds to thousands of times, snubs the Nurse, disregards her daughter, and even forgets Juliet’s age and birthday! A closer relationship between Juliet and her parents would have led them to understand Juliet’s relationship with Romeo and would have given Juliet the option to confide in her parents before it grew too late. Instead, the Capulets remain detached landowners of their daughter, failing to comprehend her pleas, and setting their daughter on the path leading to death for Romeo, Paris, and
The Nurse has a big role in the Capulet house as she looks after Juliet and the rest of the family in the house. The Nurse does not share the love of Juliet as she thinks it is a temporary and physical relationship. She cannot understand the intense and spiritual love between them that they share. When she is bringing news for Romeo’s wedding arrangements, she is the one that focuses on Juliet’s wedding night, “I am the drudge and toil in your delight, But you shall bear the burden soon at night. ”(Line
The Nurse is described as the servant and guardian of Juliet, but treats Juliet more as a friend than a daughter. This is enumerated when the Nurse helps Juliet and Romeo, “ Your lady mother is coming to your chamber: the day is broke be wary, look about” (3.5.39-40). This reveals how the Nurse acted more as a friend than a mother figure and betrayed the capulets. This also displays how she contributed to the demise of Romeo and Juliet by helping them pursue a relationship that was technically forbidden. Later, after that the Nurses true intentions and characteristics come out when she declaims “ Faith here it is. Romeo is banished and all the world to nothing” (3.5.214-215). Because of this it causes Juliet not to trust the nurse anymore and brings out the Nurses true characteristics greedy and misleading. Subsequently this shows how the Nurses misleading and greediness help lead toward the demise of the two
Thesis: Both Romeo and Juliet is romantic and immature in thinking, but Romeo is impulsive and changeable while Juliet is cautious and steady. Topic Sentence: Both Romeo and Juliet is romantic Evidence 1(Romeo): “Juliet: Saints do not move, though grant for prayers’ sake. Romeo: Then move not, while my prayer’s effect I take.”(3.5.116) Evidence 2(Juliet): “O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?
Being in two families that have two totally opposite views can cause a chaos especially, when a love story happens between the rivals. Verona, where the play takes place, introduces two main characters; Romeo and Juliet that are two star crossed lovers that are restricted from loving each other. In the play, Romeo and Juliet, Romeo and Juliet fall in love at first sight at the Capulet’s party, however after learning that their families are enemies, they compromised to keep their love a secret. In the midst of secretly loving each other, Juliet’s nurse was their main helper of their love story. I believe that the nurse was the most memorable character portrayed because the nurse was their communication key, the one who supported their love, and the person who opened up a way for Romeo and Juliet to meet up without using death as an option.
Nurse is Juliet’s attendant. Nurse’s child, Susan, was the same age as Juliet. Since Susan died, Nurse has treated Juliet as her own daughter and breastfed her. Lady Capulet’s personality is rivaled by Nurse’s personality. Lady Capulet and Nurse are both Capulets.
