A roaring sea of red and white as far as the eye can see. A stadium filled to the brim with cheering fans. The rumble of the crowd as they cheer on their favorite team. This is a UW Madison Badgers game.
Attending the same small district school since senior kindergarten, where elementary, middle, and high school all fit into one singular building, my class sizes have always been relatively small, never composed of more than about 65 students at a time. Having such a small student body means that the stands at football games, soccer games, or any other sporting events are never very full. You can expect maybe about twenty students to show up at most to a single game. School spirit is not something our small school excels at. Never truly experiencing

UW Madison is the opposite. It is a relatively large school with thousands of students that is yet somehow closely woven into its community where people are supportive of each other and proud to be a part of something larger than themselves. These people all come together to support a single team. In doing so, they not only show dedication to this team but to one another. People do not show up to these games simply for the purpose of rooting on one team, but to be a part a great community. Showing their support for each other and bonding over a sporting event is a long-honored tradition kept up by many and treasured for its simplicity yet nonetheless effectiveness in bonding individuals together. I yearn to feel what this type of support and pride must feel like, and how it must feel to be a part of such an inclusive, diverse community of individuals.
Students at UW Madison not only show their pride in their school at sporting events, but in their academics and extracurriculars as well. In a place where students are so supportive of each other and root for each other, there is no doubt that this translates over to the academic atmosphere as well. Madison offers an academic environment where students and staff alike support and encourage each other to do the best they possibly can. A supportive academic environment is pivotal to success and Madison has a great
Sometimes obstacles occur and seem to mismanage important goals that we strive for. Correspondingly, as a high school student, there are plenty of opportunities up for grabs that only push me harder to work towards achievement. Being on a drill team contained great leadership roles that I was highly interested in. At the end of sophomore year, I decided to try out for drill team officer, as there were only 7 spots open and 14 candidates trying out. Unfortunately, I was not one of those 7 candidates who received a spot on the officer line. Feeling frustrated with myself, I considered that perhaps I just wasn’t a good enough dancer. This reflected my performance at practice, and I felt even more defeated.
A united university through sports is often a rarity. College football can be one of the most intense experience in college sports. The passion and energy is nearly impossible to encapsulate into a single feeling. Sports teams and their fans share a bond that cannot be recon with. The colleges with prestigious athletic backgrounds have a numerous alumni who carry pride into every game day. A lot of fans equal a lot of fun, but attending an school with diehard fans is best part of college sports. College football has gained the reputation for becoming the most celebrated sport. The best way to celebrate a college football game is tailgating. Tailgating and college football have become such a tradition that it is hard to see one happening
For 150 years, college sports have been an important aspect of American universities and abolishing them would eliminate the benefits that they bring (“College Athletics Programs”). One of the greatest benefits of college athletics is that they bind the school to the community. People who live in a college town love to support their institution and showing up at numerous athletic events displays how far their dedication goes. Not only do college sports attract people who live in the college town, but also alumni and future students. The school’s spirit and unity extends far beyond the
When learning how to pick a fantasy football team you need to pay extra attention to what has gone on for the specific team in the offseason. Here are some questions to ask yourself about the team you are going to choose:
Everybody standing and facing the american flag as the anthem began playing over the loudspeakers in the gym. Everyone standing silently in anticipation for an exciting game to occur. As the beginning of the game was coming near the crowd started to get as electric as ever, both student sections on their feet and chanting at the opposite team to try to get in there head and distract them for the prize. As the game begins both teams get to a hot start, making their first baskets couple of baskets of the game. Being a close game the crowd stayed into the game at all times. Yelling at questionable calls from referees was a big recurrence in this game because of the intensity of the game
The entire stadium was filled that night, even the opponent’s bleachers. Even though it was merely a freshman game, it seemed as if the entire town wanted to view this matchup.
Coming from Arizona, I knew what it was like to see thousands of students at a football game rallying behind their team. Surprisingly, Wisconsin-Madison was home to some of the most dedicated fans alive. Even in harsher weather conditions, the students make it out to the games, filling the seats high and heavy with a sea of screaming red Badgers. Furthermore, the Badgers excel in every sport, including my personal favorite, hockey. To be apart of a dominate Big Ten school is everything I had dreamt of. What makes the University of Wisconsin different from other power five schools is their ability to switch into student mode. The majority of athletically gifted universities tend to focus their time on athletics alone, whereas the University of Wisconsin-Madison values both education and
For KU students, upholding this advantage is no challenge. Through signs, songs, and chants, the student section creates an intimidating environment for the opponents, while showing their undying support for the Jayhawk players.
As the weekend begins, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte’s campus transforms from lethargic into a jocund atmosphere. While some look forward to parties on the weekends, others look towards Saturday, a day where, for three hours, a fan will sit in the stands and observe one of America’s most famous sports: football. Playing a major role in American culture, football has become a lifestyle for many that involves tailgating, socializing, and friendly rivalries. Today, anyone can experience the thrill, heartaches and triumphs of football just by observing. UNC Charlotte provides a first-hand experience of this popular sport for the community, alumni, students, and staff. This past game was the homecoming game against Florida International University. Fans near and far came to the Jerry Richardson Stadium to watch the Niners take on the Panthers. Through its modern design and lively ambience, the Jerry Richardson Stadium of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte provides a unique experience for all football lovers.
All 109,901 fans rise up and all the eye can see is a sea of yellow going crazy like a bee to an open pop can. Then the band plays the most beautiful song in the world, The Victors. All the maize and blue fans stand up and sing the fight song so loud it can be heard outside the stadium for miles. But the greatest feeling in the world that nothing else matches, is when the team funnels out of the tunnel and runs under the team banner. Every player runs out of the tunnel like a bat out of h-e double hockey sticks. They all jump up and tap the banner with a vision of navy jerseys hopping up in
In Beaver Stadium fifty thousand Penn Staters yell, “We are!” across the stadium to the adjacent fifty thousand Penn Staters who reply, “Penn State!” Those one hundred thousand voices are a representation of the massive, single voice they make up. When you hear and participate in the chant it reminds you of the institution you are a part of and brings you profound joy. It makes you feel like you actually are an important part of the community.
Last night I made the drive to Union Local high school to watch my first game, that featured Wier, West Virginia and the Union Local Jets. The stadium was very nice, with the only complaint being three bucks to park.
112 participants were identified and selected from various groups of on-campus tailgaters before the start of a recent Division I, FBS college football game. Only participants who had previously attended a game, and planned to attend the upcoming game, of the same team and self-identified as a fan of that team were selected. Participants devoting the time, money, and energy involved in tailgating and attending multiple games certainly fit our definition of what a fan is.
A team player can be associated to any type of profession a person participates. The dictionary defines team players as a number of people associated together in work or activity. Team players are the type of people with a tremendous personality who contribute and motivate themselves in many areas. They include the military, sports, work, and families. However, there are a few things team players are not. Let us explore these aspects closer.
“It may sound like a waste of time, but it unites our Wal-Mart branch as a family!” Bob preaches.
