Using this book, the paper seeks to answer various questions. It will discuss what Elisabeth is asking Descartes to clarify, and what his response is. Besides, the paper will evaluate Descartes answer to see if it was adequate.

Sir Walter Raleigh and I met when he was working for Queen Elizabeth. He seemed really nice and convincing. Knowing that I was a Maid of Honor of the Queen were not allowed to marry, but we could with the exception of the Queen. Sir Walter Raleigh and I married in 1591. Then when I was released from the tower, I found out that my son, Damerel had died of the plague.

Sir Walter Raleigh the explorer was born in 1552, or possibly 1554 and died in 1618. He grew up in a farmhouse near a village called East Budleigh in Devon. He had four older brothers. He was also raised as a strict Protestant.

In 1584, Raleigh sent a scouting party to the New World in order to determine a site for a settlement. His actions impressed the Queen and he was knighted in 1585, making him Sir Walter Raleigh.

He picked this area after studying the first-hand accounts of French and Spanish explorers, such as Juan Pardo who found in the Carolinas fertile land and precious stones and metals. Sir Walter Raleigh after his research became confident after his research that he would be able to fulfill his promise to the queen.

Gold became his journey's fleece and grail. A few days before departure he was still tracking rumors about "an exceedingly great quantity of gold" in Hispaniola, "where he could get it for nothing." That search continued on all four of his voyages, but the Indies never yielded him much treasure (William Howarth).

When great times begin to form, society needs great people to mold its future success. John Locke, Voltaire, Adam Smith, and Mary Wollstonecraft were some of the most well-known philosophers. They lived in Europe during the Enlightenment time period. The philosophers believed that with their innovative ideas they could help society progress. Philosophers believed that individual freedoms in government, religion, economics, and gender equality were important to help aid society in its progression.

Sir Walter Raleigh is credited with establishing Virginia. He was an explorer born in 1552. He's still very wise even though he's 464 years old. This would mean that he's seen a lot in his long life, so he knows how to handle hard situations. He was a favorite of Queen Elizabeth after serving in her army. This proves that he is good with people, and he is very respectful.

Russia has seen its fair share of autocratic monarchs as well, such as Peter the Great and Catherine the Great. Peter first ascended the throne as co-czar with his half-brother Ivan V in the death of their brother Feodore. Their elder sister, Sophia, was the most capable to take the throne. But being a girl, she was unable to do so and could only rule as regent for the two princes turned czars. While Sophia ruled, Peter spent his days building forts on the banks of a river outside of Moscow. He played war games using them, recruiting in boys and arming them with real guns. The games were dangerous; 24 boys were once killed in a single game. But the games eventually paid off, and Peter had himself two self-trained armies that he used to overthrow Sophia and rule the throne himself. The regent was forced into an enclosed convent, living as a nun for the rest of her days (Russia, Land of Tsars: Time of Troubles).

Sir Francis Drake was born in Tailstock in the United Kingdom. He was born around 1540-1544. However, the exact date is uncertain because there are no formal records of his birth. He was best known for being a pirate and stealing treasure form many people and he was very successful being a pirate and also later on in his life he was very successful for discovering many different places all around the world. Sir Francis drake was a very important explorer because of his many significant expeditions, his circumnavigation of the globe and his contribution to the defeat of the Spanish armada.

When King Philip II of Spain sent Spanish Armada to attack England in 1588, many of the English took advantage of its maneuverability and defeated the armada, resulting in naval power across the Atlantic. Since England gained power over the ocean, many also gained interest in colonizing the New World. However, many pioneers, including Sir Humphrey Gilbert, Sir Walter Raleigh, and John White, have failed in the expedition to the New World. In 1578, Queen Elizabeth offered a six-year patent to Gilbert, which granted him the right to possess any inhabited land. Then, in 1593, Gilbert, on his expedition to the Newfoundland in hopes to build a profitable colony, has stumbled upon a storm which sank his ship and was lost at sea. In 1594, Sir Raleigh was granted the same offer and led an expedition of a small group of men to the North American Coast. Upon returning, Raleigh names the coast he and his men explored, “Virginia,” in honor of Queen Elizabeth, who was known as the “Virgin Queen.” In 1585, Raleigh hired his cousin, Sir Richard Greenville, to lead an expedition to an island of Roanoke, an island off the coast of modern-day North Carolina. Greenville successfully established a colony after destroying an Indian village. After establishing a colony, Greenville then leaves his men at Roanoke until Sir Francis Drake unexpectedly arrives at the
