Skin Cancer: Integumentary
By:Madison Rizner
Skin cancer is the most common out of all cancers. About 3.5 million cases are basal and squamous cells. Melanoma a more dangerous skin cancer had 73,000 cases in 2015.The most common types of skin cancer are basal, melanoma and squamous cell skin carcinoma. Basal a type of skin cancer that begins in the basal cells. Melanoma the most serious type of skin cancer. Squamous cell skin carcinoma a form of skin cancer that develops in the cells of the outer layer of the skin. Skin cancer begins in the cells that make up the epidermis. When the DNA that controls the cells growth is damaged, it causes an overgrowth and build up of skin cells. Eventually, this skin cell buildup forms a tumor, which results in the symptoms you see. Some causes of skin cancer are sun, solar radiation, ultraviolet tanning

Skin cancer can develop from sun-exposed skin, scalp, face, lips, ears, neck, chest, arms and legs. Virtually anywhere there is skin on your body. It can even form under your fingernails and toenails. Skin cancer affects people with all skin tones. Some of symptoms of skin cancer are a sore that does not heal, large brownish spot with dark speckles. Dark moles that change color, size, feel or that bleed. Dark lesions on your palms, soles or a mucous membrane lining your nose, mouth or anus. A Dermatologist will examine growths, moles and dry patches on your skin to begin the diagnosis. Many Dermatologist use a dermascope to magnify the skin. If they find something they will remove part of it or all of it to do further testing. The doctor or dermatologist will chose one of the many different types of treatment depending on how bad the case may be.
There are three main types of skin cancer. These are malignant melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma. While melanoma is the most life-threatening of the three, it is also the most
Skin cancer is a condition where cancerous cells form in the epidermis. The epidermis is the first layer of your skin. Melanoma can be on any part of the body (Egan 23-24). This form of skin cancer can be treated in the early stages of formation. Basal cell cancer is one of the most common types of skin cancer, this cancer may also happen on the sun exposed skin and on the face (Egan 10).Squamous cells are the second most common form of skin cancer. Squamous cells form on sun exposed skin (Egan 11). For example, it could potentially form on the shoulders, neck, or hands (Egan 10-11). Each stage of skin cancer may vary depending on the person.
Now that we know different types of skin cancer, it is important to know the causes for this disease. The first one is the environmental pollutants that we are exposed to such as coal, tar, and radium. Exposure to ionizing radiation such as x-rays also cause skin cancer (“Theoretical Causes”, 2000, P.6).
Although there are several types of skin cancer, the most aggressive form is melanoma. This cancer of the skin involves mass replication of the pigment producing melanocyte cells, which are located in the epidermis, below the basal layer. There are several factors involved with the onset of melanoma including, exposure to ultraviolet rays, genetic predisposition, numerous nevi (moles), immunosuppression, and environmental exposure to carcinogens.
It is usually caused by intense exposure from ultraviolet radiation such as sun or tanning beds. Melanoma is when damaged DNA from this high exposure triggers mutations in the body that leads to the intense multiplication of cancerous cells. Melanoma cancer can look almost like a mole and can range from skin colored to black or brown in color. If caught and treated early it is curable, however if not caught early it can spread into the body and cause other cancerous cells or death. There are four types of melanoma skin cancers: superficial spreading melanoma, lentigo maligna, acral lentiginous melanoma and nodular melanoma. Superficial spreading melanoma is the most common and is usually seen in young people, but in all ages as well. It is known for growing along the epidermis for a long period of time before penetrating into the skin. This can also be found almost anywhere on the body but usually for men on their upper bodies and for females on their legs but also upper bodies. Lentigo maligna is known for its appearance for can look similar to a tan or dark discoloration. It is usually found in the elderly population and is the most common in areas of Hawaii. It is found on the upper body, arms, facial area and ears. Acral lentiginous melanoma is known for its appearance under the nails, palms of the hands or feet as a dark discoloration. It is mostly common in Asian and African-American cultures and can
Such and lung and skin cancer. Lung cancer starts off as a cough (often with blood), chest pain, wheezing, and weight loss. These symptoms often don't appear until the cancer is advanced. It occurs mainly in people who smoke, or have smoked. Smoking is the most significant factor that we could reduce the cause of lung cancer. Not only does smoking cause lung cancer, it also causes many other types. Melanoma is the most common type of skin cancer. In melanoma, pigment producing cells give color to the skin, mainly in moles. Skin cancer is usually caused by being in the sun too long without treating yourself properly. The simplest way to prevent this cancer is to wear sunscreen, or a
On the Mayo Clinic website, there is a very informative section on skin cancer. The main point is that skin cancer is the abnormal growth of skin cells, which develops on skin exposed to sun. They discus symptoms, causes, risk factors, how to prepare for an appointment, tests and diagnosis, and treatments. Overall, the website covers the details of skin cancer from start to end.
Discuss the different types of skin cancer, risk factors, diagnosis, treatment options and preventative measures.
Melanoma is the most serious type of skin cancer. You can get melanoma from the sun, it can be genetic or from tanning beds. Melanoma is mostly on skin, but also found in eyes, under nails, and sometimes found in organs. It’s increasing to a lot of people under the age of 40, especially women. Melanoma can be in many places. Next, the sun and tanning bed increase your chances
There are different types of skin cell cancer. Bell cell carcinoma (BCC) involves slow growing, malignant epidermal tumors that develop from hair follicles. These tumor infiltrate surrounding tissues and invasively destroy vulnerable areas, such as skin that is chronically exposed to the sun. The sun-exposed areas of the neck and head are at highest risk, where small white or translucent lesions will likely appear. Squamous cell carcinoma is a cancer that is caused by too much UV exposure or from excessive use of sunbeds. It is technically caused by uncontrolled growth of abnormal squamous cells and medically treated through safe dermatology
Most skin cancers are caused by exposure to the sun. There are .non melanoma skin cancer, basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. The dermatologist examines for growths, moles, and dry patches. If the dermatologist finds what he thinks that looks like skin cancer a biopsy is taken. The sample of the skin that looks like cancer will be taken and sent to a lab.
Skin cells that lose the ability to grow and divide are called skin cancer. Another name for skin cancer is neoplasia. Skin cancer begins on the outer layer of the skin called the epidermis and is the most common form of cancer in humans. All skin cancers are important but the most commonly seem is the basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, melanoma. These skin cancers happens when the skin starts to grows abnormal skin cells and form a mass called a skin tumor. Basal cell carcinoma and squamous are the most common skin cancer and they are referred to as nonmelanoma cancer. The least dangerous skin cancer of the three is the basal cell carcinoma. The most dangerous skin cancer of the three is melanoma because it spreads quickly to
Skin Cancer is the abnormal division of skin cells which cause tumors in the body. There are 3 types of Skin Cancer: Melanoma, Basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma (Web Md, year). Skin cancer is caused by the exposure of ultraviolet radiation and UV-like factors (Skin Cancer Foundation, 2015). This paper focuses on a specific type of skin cancer called Melanoma.
Most parents remembered hearing about the importance of protecting their children from the sun, yet children are still playing in the sun without sunscreen or protective clothing. Many people these days are not taking skin cancer seriously after knowing its significance. Skin cancer has been a growing problem in the United States and millions of people have suffered from it every year. The three most common skin cancers are Melanoma, Basal cell, and Squamous cell, which can cause bumps, sores, growths, etc. Skin cancer is a deadly disease with many causes, but the advantage is that it can be prevented.
C. Melanoma Skin Cancer is the most dangerous form of skin cancer, it kills one person per hour, these cancerous growths are most often caused by ultraviolet radiation from sunshine or tanning beds. These tumors originate in the pigment-producing melanocytes in the basal layer of the epidermis. Melanoma is caused mainly by intense, occasional UV exposure (frequently leading to sunburn), especially in those who are genetically predisposed to the disease. Often the first sign of melanoma is a change in the size, shape, color or feel of a mole.
