SMART Objectives
The establishment of all objectives should be created using the S.M.A.R.T. philosophy. What do we mean by S.M.A.R.T. objective? S.M.A.R.T. is an acronym that is used to guide the development of measurable goals. Once a project is planned, consider on developing several goals that will enable it to be successful. A goal might be to hold a weekly project meeting with the key members of a team and a continuous programme throughout the project. The acronym SMART has several slightly different variations, which can be used to provide a more comprehensive definition of goal setting.
S stands for Specific/ Significant/ Stretching.
M stands for Measurable/ Meaningful/ Motivational.

It stresses the importance of choosing goals that matter. Goals that are relevant to your boss, your team, your organization will receive that needed support. To be realistic, a goal must represent an objective toward which you are both willing and able to work. A goal can be both high and realistic; you are the only one who can decide just how high your goal should be. But be sure that every goal represents substantial progress. Relevant goals drive the team, department and organization forward. A goal that supports other goals would be considered a relevant goal. A relevant goal can answer yes to these questions: * Does this seem worthwhile? * Is this the right time? * Does this match our other efforts/needs? * Are you the right person? * Is it applicable in the current socio-economic environment?
Time-oriented answers the question, "When will it be done?" It refers to the fact that an objective has end points and check points built into it. Sometimes a task may only have an end point or due date. Sometimes that end point or due date is the actual end of the task, or sometimes the end point of one task is the start point of another. Your goal is probably realistic if you truly believe that it can be accomplished. Additional ways to know if your goal is realistic is to determine if you have accomplished anything similar in the past or ask
Alice’s goal of paying off her student loan can be completed in 6.8 years. I calculated this by dividing her loan debt amount of $53,000 by her annual student loan payment amount of $7,720. Therefore if she maintained this annual payment amount her loan would be paid in full in 6.8 years. Because this goal can be completed between 2-10 years it can be categorized as an intermediate goal, meaning it will take an intermediate amount of time to accomplish. This math proves that Alice’s goal is specific, attainable, realistic, and timely. However, if Alice added more detail to written goal like perhaps the math, it would be clear that the goal is measurable.
They must be specific, measurable, supported, and achievable. These goals will be motivators for the immediate time to come. Unobtainable goals are discouraging and provide no real way to achieve company goals.
Interdepartmental communication and medical errors have both been proven as causes of harm to patients in health care settings. When there are gaps in communications between nurses changing shifts or patient transitions from one department to another, medical errors can occur and cause harm to patients. Even though there has been improvement in recognition of these problems and actions taken to reduce communication gaps and medical errors, there still needs to be more work, especially in individual facilities.
During the implementation of my health plan I was able only partially meet SMART goals and objectives. My goal was to reduce exposure to harmful noises (higher than 85 dB) to less than 8 hours a day. In order to meet that goal I was using an app on my phone to measure noise level I was exposed to. In the situations where it was possible I was either reducing volume or using protective devices (earplugs and noise cancellation headphones) to reduce harmful effect of noise. I was able to meet my goal only in well controlled environments where I was able to control intensity of noise. For example - when I was driving car alone I could reduce music volume in the car. However in almost all other activities, like during lectures, during walks outside and in movie theaters, I could not control intensity of noises and could not avoid those activities. So in reality it was very difficult to fully implement my health plan.
One of the goals that I would implement in this program from the SMART goal would be making sure that freshmen students are motivated and meaningfully understand the concept of staying healthy. This aligns with the alphabet ‘M’ of the SMART acronym, which means motivational, meaningful, and measurable. Often times we always provide students with a lot of knowledge through freshmen enquiry classes, but it would be more helpful if we are able to measure and see if the students are motivated to make a healthy choice.
The first SMART goal that I would like to accomplish to help improve my leadership skills if barcoding all stock rooms for each department. Barcoding each department will save time, money, faster customer service, and better accuracy of ordering. The nurses would save time as well as they are not having to input a fourteen-digit number to charge just one item each time a supply is used on a patient. They can focus more on the patient.
The entire article calls for a process of goal setting by management. Management is called upon to periodically identify and monitor indicators that show a need for realignment of work processes (Layman, E., 2016). Goal setting, as have seen in Principles of Management, usually has an outcome of increased performance (Carpenter et al, 2010). While the smart acronym is not used outright, the article from AHIMA continually points to indicators for needed changes, and references a need for perodizing measurements to make them timely. It also explores achievability through a set of formulas for what changes to make when specific identifiers are noted (Layman, E., 2016). Essentially, it gives a list of tools such as satisfaction surveys, performance reports, and a host of others to make measurements specific and, one assumes, timely (Layman, E., 2016). Finally, it
Another SMART goal I have is to find a better balance between personal and work life by taking short breaks to reduce stress. Lately, I have been overwhelmed with the demands that come from my part-time job and school. These demands have caused me to be fatiguing and I find myself having a harder time to complete work. To ensure that this goal will be measurable, I will try my best to take short 15 minute breaks every hour. I feel that this will help me feel more relaxed and feel less overwhelmed. To attain this goal, I will require a timer and breathing exercises or even a sketchbook. I will time 15 minutes every hour and let myself do breathing exercises or colour around in my sketchbook. However, realistically, this goal can be
As promised, I have managed to come out with something. These goals are challenging. I will wish we take just one. However, taking a second goal will not be a problem if the goal is gear toward networking.
With my team, we will know the importance of achieving a goal and objective. It creates a huge responsibility for everyone on my team to make sure the setting target objectives are being followed. Teamwork being involved I suggest we use the (SMART) tool for the outline to set targets program objectives. The steps and meaning to the SMART tool are:
Out of the three goals, (Personal, educational, and professional) I chose two of the goals that I am focusing on and that is my personal and educational goals. For my personal goals, I want to create a big picture of what I plan to do in life. Then I want to break them down in order to reach my goals, then once I have them together, then I would start working on them to achieve them. For example(Specific and Measurable goals), I plan on finding a job that has great benefits and the best rate of pay, and one that does not require working on weekends(Monday-Friday only), and not working overtime.
To make these goals effective and efficient objectives are important. It gives an organization right direction to achieve its goal, that is why organizational objectives should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time bound (SMART).
A successful person chooses goals to achieve something that is of great value and importance to them. This in turn motivates the person to achieve the goal because when the desired outcome is very important to a person, that person will be determined to persevere. Goal setting also improves a person 's organizational and time management skills because goal setting requires prioritization and that leads to the successful and sequential completion of necessary tasks. Once a person defines and prioritizes goals a plan should be drawn out detailing how this goal will be achieved. Goals and the time-line for their completion should be clearly defined, it is also important that a person 's
To be useful, the stated objectives should meet several criteria which are known as SMART objectives. [Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Timed]
What is my chosen emotion that I want to improve and what is my SMART goal related to developing the chosen emotion?
