Introduction Our daily lives have been changed by technological revolution beyond our recognition over the last few decades in almost every sphere of life whether it be work, play or sleep. It seems like a magical world of smart devices such as smart phones and smart electronics which has been developed into state of the art smart homes, home automation and smart grid. With the further advancement in technology, it is bound to be ineluctable aspect of our lives. tagPlug – smart switch and plug is supposed to become a noteworthy product reinventing the concept of smart homes in India and abroad. Nearly 20 to 25 percent of our total residential and commercial energy usage is consumed by electronic equipments in home and office, most of which is consumed when such equipments operate in standby or sleep mode i.e., when they are designed to consume low power and not actually being utilized. tagPlug plays the role of a savior by helping people keep track and understand their energy usage on a day to day basis. The aim is to make customer aware of their energy consumption and help them save energy wherever possible. tagPlug can monitor the energy consumption and provide data on Android device making it accessible with the swipe of a finger hence making our life comfortable. The other features incorporated in tagPlug are setting alarm to switch device at a particular time and remotely controlling appliances. As a product, tagPlug is a really smart way to understand and manage our
While IoT devices holds much promise, there are still many security issues that need to be addressed. These security issues can have a significant impact on everyday life, such as causing damage, disruption to business operations, and in some cases even loss of life. Having all your devices interconnected using IoT such as lighting, thermostats, doors, and elevators, seems convenient but in fact this poses a great security risk. If these risks are exploited it could disrupt power or lighting which could lead to a loss of life if it were something like a hospital. Addressing these security risks will lead to more efficient and safer to use IoT devices but companies will have to identify them in their devices first (Tankard, 2015).
FS20 switchable Socket plugs are used to allow connected appliances to be switch on or off using commands sent wirelessly using the FS20 radio frequency. Individual switchable sockets are addressed using a combination of house codes and device address. House code allow different smart homes in the same area to use the same FS20 radio frequency with limited interference while device address refers to a particular switchable plug.
The majority of society has adapted to the technology-rich world that we live in. After all, an important aspect of a good electronic is its user-friendliness and adaptability. We have taken advantage of all technologies improvements in products and services. However, in the future, technology will provide much more than just products and services. It will provide autonomous transportation and engrossing entertainment. It will also enhance education, ameliorate the healthcare industry, help the environment, grow global economy and much more. Technology will have a vital

The world is getting smarter and better and so are the devices. With the improved technology, we can check our mails on our watch; control our home temperature through our smartphone and much more. The term Internet of Things is referred to any object or device which connects to the Internet to automatically send and/or receive data [1].
Many kitchens include charging stations or outlets so your device is always ready for use. Your appliances are getting smarter as well. Coffee makers can be programmed to have your drink made to your exact preference with a simple touch, while refrigerators with internet access can keep track of its contents and notify you when an item needs to be replaced.
Abstract—The home automation is rapidly advancing area with the help of different technologies. The smart home is basically developed with the intelligent system to assist the people and provide support to fulfill the need of disabled and elderly in home. This paper describes the overview of research and associated technologies that are used in smart home system .This include the basic building block of smart home and their inter-relationships. The different sensors, communication protocols, devices and algorithms that are used for smart home implementation, are studied.
Homeowners who wish to operate the appliances and features of their home without being connected to their community's standard power grid explore a number of options to provide constant energy to their home.
Everyone dreads going to the mailbox when you know your utilities bill will be in there any day. But what if I told you that their is new technology out there that will actually save you hundreds of dollars every year. Down below are just a few of many gadgets and tips. They range from home auditor's looking at your house to new thermostats. They will not only make bill time less stressful but turn a house into a home.
For one thing, simple lifestyle changes can save kilowatts of electricity. One of these involves turning off the lights and electrical appliances when leaving a room. Shutting off computers can save watts – turning them off at night, and having them hibernate during the day if not in use is a good way to save energy
According to the case study written by Jurek, Bras, Guldberg, D’Arcy, Oh, and Biller, energy costs were steadily rising and were predicted to continue this trend going into the future. At the same time, utility companies were beginning to implement Smart Grid technologies to increase the efficiency of energy distribution. One resulting program to emerge from
The use of IoT has already impacted the way cities operate. The term smart cities, is used to describe a city that possesses an IoT oriented infrastructure. “In a smart city, the digital technologies translate into better public services for inhabitants and better use of resources while reducing environmental impacts”. [3] For a smart city to be feasible, IoT must provide intelligence, interconnection, and instrumentation. Wi-Fi-enabled smart devices and low-cost sensors are components of the smart city and allow devices a way to communicate with the public via the internet. These devices collect real-time data, which not only improves the lives of residents, but transforms several sectors of public service as well. Transportation has been revolutionized by smart traffic management systems which gather data from an array of magnetic road sensors and hundreds of cameras. The result is less delay at major stop lights and increased travel speeds, because enabled drivers can see which lights are busy and monitor these areas for other vehicles and pedestrians. To lower traffic and driver search times for parking spots, parking sensors that detect parking-spaces for drivers are installed in major cities. Street lights use a method of energy saving known as adaptive lighting which enables them to determine their brightness setting, appropriate for a given situation. The smart city solution to conserving energy is through smart girds. A smart grid serves several energy management
The field is of developing significance because of the expanding dependence of PC frameworks in most societies. Computer frameworks now incorporate a wide assortment of "keen" gadgets, including cell phones, TVs and little gadgets as a major aspect of the Internet of Things – and systems incorporate the Internet and private information systems, as well as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and different remote system.
Making IoT reality there are some features that must be satisfied. Low power demand is one of them. This is particularly useful when devices have no or limited access to power sources. The device must be active on the requirement, involve occasional human or system interaction or connected to a large network of devices that cumulatively consume a lot of power. The practical implementation of this is possible when it is supported by updates to control signaling, idle and sleep mode, link adaptation, and uplink (UL) power control. Collaboration with other devices is also an alternative to decrease power consumption (Wu, Talwar, Johnsson, Himayat, & Johnson, 2011). The example is IP (Internet Protocol) stack, a light protocol that links a large number of communicating devices all over the world. Its operation required only small and battery operated embedded devices (Atzori, Iera, & Morabito, 2010).
With the click of a button or a tap on a screen, you can discover profound knowledge, it navigates you to where you need to go, or it even tells you miscellaneous things such as which place to go to get the best pumpkin spice latte. The Internet of things has significantly impacted everyday lives and continues to develop throughout generations. It refers to pertinent things such as the ever-growing networks of everyday physical objects, and other internet-enabled systems and devices which process and analyze large and fast-moving data set along each other. To sum it up, the internet of things is a fast growing network of materials where everything is synced and can collect as well as exchange data using sensors that are embedded in devices. Although individuals believe that the Internet of Things (IoT) consequently, will strip every one of privacy and security, the internet of things ought to be utilized in society as it positively transforms the way you live and relate to our environment to make it more productive and useful for us.
