If I choose to smoke as an American citizen I will if I want simply because it is my right to do so, I mean after all is that not what this country was founded upon in the first place? Freedom? Yes it is. Since this is true why would we say you can have your freedom to do as you please but place stipulations on it? Since the United States is a free country it should be anyone`s right to smoke even if he or she exposes children to secondhand/thirdhand smoke, especially since recent studies show that the risk of second-hand and third –hand smoke has been gradually decreasing , and there are many health hazards other than those associated with smoking that cause death. Smoking is not a subjective activity because people have an option to be around you or not. Granted you should be considerate when smoking around you kids or anyone else’s kids for that matter. But that does not mean that you cannot smoke around kids at all. I am not saying that second-hand, or third-hand smoking isn’t a reality, it is but studies show that second-hand smoke has decreased in recent years meaning that smoking around children is not as big of a risk as one may have it once thought it to be. In many aspects the United States of America is the most free country in the world. We are allowed to believe in and do what we want as far as politics, religion, and different activities go. In this
The United States of America is a free nation. Each and every American citizen here has rights
Smoking is an activity that has been around for many years for people to use and adapt into their lifestyle. It is a tool that many people use to help reduce the stresses of life and put them in a comfortable position that enables them to cope with the hectic lifestyle they are living. However, smoking has been scientifically proven to cause many types of cancer, the most common being lung cancer resulting in numerous deaths across the United States. According to BBC, "Smoking is a greater cause of death and disability than any single disease" (BBC, 2). Evidently, the benefits and drawbacks of smoking have been debated for many years, and only recently have some countries have placed a ban in public places such as Britain and the United
the United States distributes one the most prestigious level of freedoms. This being one of the
Freedom is defined as the state of being free or at liberty rather than in confinement. It is the power to determine action without restraint and the exemption from external control, interference, and regulation. Americans, these days, commonly regard their society as the freest and the best in the world. Their understanding of freedom has been shaped and based upon the founding fathers’ belief that all people are equal and that the role of the government is to protect each person’s basic “inalienable” rights. The United States Constitution’s Bill of Rights assures individual rights including freedom of speech, press, and religion. America has changed dramatically from the country our founding fathers discovered. Some could even argue that
America was built on freedom. Freedom to speak, freedom to choose, freedom to worship, and freedom to do just about anything you want within the law. America’s law was designed to protect and preserve these freedoms. The reason the United States of America came to exist was because the colonists fled Great Britain to get back the freedoms that were taken away from them by the Monarchy. In countries where Monarchies and Dictatorships rule, there is little if any freedom to speak of. Citizens of these countries are persecuted or even killed if they attempt to exercise any of the basic freedoms. In these countries there is no free speech, no right to choose government, no right to express religion, no right to own
Many of countries do not have any freedom at all. In some countries if you say something the leader does not agree with you could be executed or thrown in jail. In America, we have freedom of speech and can say whatever is on our mind without being prosecuted. We must keep fighting for our rights every single day or someone could come in and take it all away.
This country has many rights and many perks to it such as free speech and the right to a trial but, One of the most prized things and most unique things about Americans is that they are able to have the opportunity to be anyone we choose to be. From birth we are given the right to get an education and grow up to be whatever we choose. But that is not the only factor to individual freedoms, american are also given the right to practice
We can set our destiny, we can move beyond the social classes that we have been born into. We choose whether we do great things how we live is lived is up to us it is a freedom granted to you by the government. We create our own business, we aren't told what we can and can’t do. We can practice whatever religion we want unlike in other countries where you could die for practicing a separate religion. Whether you practice Christianity catholicism Muslim or if you're an atheist, you're free to believe
People in America have the freedom to do whatever they want, whenever they want. People fought so that we could decide how to live our own lives. Independence is also free. It requires us to take personal responsibility for our actions. Personal Independence has some good things about it, but it also has some challenges.
In our culture, respect for individual autonomy is valued to the highest degree. We want to do what we want to do, what we think will give us fulfillment and meaning in life. In other words, we value our liberty and the last thing we want is somebody or some circumstance infringing on it.
Well I think that we are all in agreement that protecting children from second hand smoke is right thing to do. But I think that the real questions with this is, when does it become the parent's responsibility rather than the government's, both local and federal.
To protect non-smokers from the detrimental effects of second-hand smoke, policies such as banning smoking in public places have been enacted in most democratic jurisdictions (Dennison, 2012). In agreement with the ANS (2016), it can therefore be concluded that the creation of such policies is necessary as well as ethical. The policies are effective in a number of ways such as obligating parents to be role models to children even when the effects of Erickson’s Developmental Stages are acting on them. For instance, when parents adhere to the policies of not smoking in public and hence the presence of children, the children will tend to avoid smoking as an unacceptable habit but instead participate in health-beneficial activities (McLeod, 2013). Equally effective self-imposed restrictions would involve high level of self-discipline. For example, one may start by undergoing a comprehensive medical check-up to find out their health status. Then, they can embark on healthy lifestyles to maintain or improve their health and act as role
A pregnant mother takes an extensive drag from her cigarette and feels the burning sensation in her lungs as she inhales all of the chemicals that are hidden inside of it. A father breathes in the tar-filled air of his cigarette, and then exhales the smoke filling the car that holds his toddlers in the backseat. These parents are not aware of the negative side effects they are putting into their children’s and unborn babies bodies. Most adults can avoid these problems while adolescents, are left having to tolerate the damage being done to their young underdeveloped bodies. This manmade problem causes large-scale complications like low birth weight and premature births in unborn children and infections and asthma in adolescents.
Imagine waking up every day experiencing a different ill effect like premature aging, yellow fingers, and distastefully tender teeth. How could anyone live their daily life when they constantly attempt to kill their own lungs by lighting another cigarette up? Ever since the invention of cigarettes in the 1800s, cigarettes are known as one of the main killers. Although many cigarette smokers neglect the importance of their health, grown adults in the 18-25 age group influence children who look up to them unintentionally. Many people believe cigarette smoking should be banned in public areas in the United States because it is an exposure to secondhand smoke, causes cancer, and premature deaths among people who do not smoke. Others believe smoking is a personal choice since smokers pay for their routine. Businesses who make a living off of selling tobacco would lose their jobs as well, and smokers have their own rights because it is legal. Since cigarettes are known as weapons of mass destruction, they should be banned in public places because it affects not only the smoker but everybody surrounding him or her due to secondhand smoke.
It is estimated that 36.5 million adults smoke in the United States of America (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention B). A cigarette contains 7,000 chemicals and 70 of those can cause cancer (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention B). When someone decides to smoke a cigarette, they are not only choosing to allow those toxins into their body but are imposing all those same toxins on anyone around them. Secondhand smoke is the combination of smoke from the burning end of a cigarette and the smoke breathed out by smokers and is considered more dangerous then smoking the cigarette (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention B). Every year 480,000 people in the United States of America die because of cigarette smoking, which is the leading cause of preventable disease and death. Why has this deadly habit become such a casual part of the American life? This habit is not only harmful to the person smoking, but is hurting everyone around them. It may be their decision to smoke and cause damage to their own bodies but when they decide to smoke in public they are infringing on the rights of everyone around them right to protect their health. Smoking should be made illegal because it is not only harmful to the smokers but also causes harm to fetuses in utero, developing children and any other adults who may breathe that smoke in.
