Literary Analysis Collection 1 In the three stories “Dangerous game”, “Liberty”, and “Sniper” they all are very different but have similarities. Here are some similarities and differences about the three stories. One of the differences in the three stories is that settings are all completely different. The “Dangerous game” takes place in shipwreck island. “Liberty” takes place in the Dominican-republic, and “sniper” takes place in Ireland. The conflicts in each story are different as well. The conflict in “Sniper” is man vs man. Rainsford’s from the “Dangerous game” is man vs self, and the conflict in “Liberty” is man vs self. All three stories face a problem. The Sniper was being shot at by his brother and ended up killing him. Rainsford
Whenever a movie based on a book is produced, similarities must exist. It is crucial that there is correlation throughout the plot of both works in order for the story to be told. One example of a similarity between the plot of both versions of The Most Dangerous Game is that Rainsford and Zaroff were both experienced hunters. Zaroff had hunted all kinds of prey all over the world, and Rainsford was famous for his books on hunting. This made Zaroff’s hunt more enjoyable and Rainsford’s fight for his life more terrifying. Also, in both the movie and short story, Zaroff used dogs to hunt Rainsford. This illustrates that Zaroff did not exactly play fair in the story or the movie. Likewise, there are also major comparisons between the resolution of the literary work and the resolution of the motion picture. For example, in both endings, Rainsford was victorious. He was the first person to
In the novel American Sniper, Chris Kyle, Scott McEwen, and Jim DeFelice use certain literary devices to support the novel in hopes of bringing the story to life in the reader’s mind by presenting a detailed explanation of Chris Kyle’s life story. Chris Kyle experienced many horrific things in the middle east and he uses several literary devices when writing his autobiography to provide insight on what really happened while he was overseas defending his country. Chris uses these literary devices to his advantage to present a realistic picture of what happened during his service in the Middle East.
“The Sniper” and “The Most Dangerous” Game are both different stories, written by different authors. Liam O’Flaherty is the author of “The Sniper”. He was born on one of Ireland’s Aran Islands, in a large family. Since the Aran Islands have a tradition of oral storytelling, Liam O’Flaherty’s house was full of different kinds of stories. He also wrote about Irish peasant life and captured the struggles of the Irish Civil War. His best known novel is “The Informal”, and it talks about a betrayal set during the Irish Troubles.
That’s when Kenny got shot for making jokes at Tub and aimed a gun at him. Rainsford is the typical hero because he is clever and moral, as opposed to Zaroff who is immoral. Rainsford has now fully reverted to hunter mode. A story which relies on action, coincidence and surprise. Both stories shows actions of instances that happen between characters and huntings.
There happen to be different settings in both of the short stories but both of the settings adapt well with their plots. In the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game” the setting takes place in the early 1920’s after the First World War on a small tropical island somewhere in the Caribbean, known as Ship-Trap Island by the sailors. Amongst the sailors, they have a mysteriously threatening reputation, which typically scares others. Individuals who pass by the area of Ship-Trap Island sense a subtle, deceptive sense of evil that haunts a number of individuals. The island is covered with a condense jungle that extends all the way down to its insidious, rocky terrain. Whereas, in the short story, “Young Goodman Brown” the story is set in the late seventeenth
The characters in the stories all forced problems. The characters were fearless, they forced being hunted, leaving their home. They were forced to do thing they didn’t want to. The characters in Harrison Bergeron was Harrison, in The most dangerous game Is Rainsford and Zarff, and in The Sniper the character was the sniper.
The only difference is that one setting is in the middle of the ocean and the other setting is in the middle of the desert. "Bleak darkness was blacking out the sea and the jungle when Rainsford sighted the lights" (Connell 215). In "The Most Dangerous Game", the setting takes place in an island and it is surrounded by just pure ocean. If Rainsford tried to escape there would be no where to go but back to the island. "Street from Kane's point of view. It is completely deserted" (Forman 326). In the middle of the desert is complete isolation. The place where the story takes place is nothing like where we live. There is one, maybe two roads in High Noon and they are strictly for either coming to or leaving the town which is in the middle of nowhere. The only thing different about the two setting are what is around them. Both settings in both stories are trying to put out the same concept which is there is no where to go but stay where you
A very important similarity between the stories, is that they both are in the view point of a Union soldier in the nineteenth century, during the civil war. The similarities between these two books combine the ideals of battle and war, also the resemblances show how alike the two protagonists of the stories are.
The themes for High Noon and The Most Dangerous Game are vastly different, yet both portray equally important message that we witness in the stories. " Then Amy's gun goes off, and
While comparing the two classics, High Noon and “The Most Dangerous Game”, I found many similarities. High Noon takes place in a lawless, western town. The main character, Will Kane is faced with the difficult decision of whether to leave town or stay and risk death by Frank Miller, who was pardoned for murder. In “ The Most Dangerous Game”, the main character, Rainsford, a hunter who sympathizes with the hunted animals, is stuck on the stranded island called Ship-Trap. He is stuck there with General Zaroff, who owns the island and is trying to kill him as a part of the most dangerous game. Even though what is written above is different in each story, and High Noon and “The Most Dangerous Game” are very different stories, upon further
The conflicts in both stories are relatively similar. Overall, they both include death and antagonists with unfair advantages. "One almost did win, I eventually had to use the dogs" (Connell 14). This citation from The Most Dangerous Game refers to General Zaroff's hunting game. It means that whenever someone is winning his game, Zaroff cheats and uses his dogs to kill them. This is an unfair advantage because Rainsford is all on his own while Zaroff has help from both his
If you ask a normal person in their right mind to jump off a cliff or go against a menacing killer with a gun they would say “No Way!”. In High Noon and “The Most Dangerous Game” both protagonists did those very things. “The Most Dangerous Game” and High Noon are similar in many ways. They share the same plot, internal conflicts, theme, and external conflicts with supporting characters. Although they share many things, the stories’ antagonists are fairly different. “The Most Dangerous Game” is a short story that takes place in the early 1920s. It is about a hunter, Rainsford, who is being hunted for game by a murderer resembling Dracula. High Noon is a movie that takes place in the late 1800s in a small western town. It is about a marshal,
The protagonists of both stories, Rainsford and Will Kane share similar beliefs and personalities. They both are against killing, but when you have to figh or die, they are both very experienced with guns.
The underlying themes of the stories are while less forthright, are still valid contrasts between the works. In some portions the themes are of the same facet such as how in both books two men have a direct conflict between one another, but in the end the most prominent themes are; Man vs. Nature in The Interlopers, as in the end even as man has petty struggles amongst his kind, nature dictates his end, and Man vs. Himself in The Most Dangerous Game, as the life or death conflict between the two hunters throws the story like a ragdoll. This theme dissimilarity, while subtle, is a major difference.
Introduction “The Destructors” and “The Most Dangerous Game”, have unique ways of captivating the reader, however both stories are similar yet different in each respect.
