The concept of health is not only the absence of disease, but a state of physical, mental, and social well-being. As the frontline caregivers, nurses understand that care outcomes are not solely determined by medical interventions, yet are heavily influenced by societal factors called Social Determinants of Health. According to the World Health Organization, SDOH are “the conditions in which people are born, grow, work, live, and age, and the wider set of forces and systems shaping the conditions of daily life”. The World Health Organization states that 24% of global deaths are environmental related, meaning almost 1 in 4 deaths are related to environmental factors (WHO 2024). By recognizing the importance and advocating for policies that prioritize environmental justice, investments into improved housing and transportation, and access to amenities to honor diverse needs and experiences, allows for endeavors towards health equity and positively influences mental and physical health. Employment and working conditions are a vital social determinant, with positive and negative effects on individuals, their families, and communities. The World Health Organization states, “people in employment are healthier, particularly those who have more control over their working conditions” (WHO 2024). The majority of the population rely on their job as their main source of income, which affects how much they can spend on housing, food, childcare, and education for their children as well as the individuals capacity to adopt health-promoting behaviors and determines if they have the resources to reside in communities and houses that support health (Braveman & Oxford, 2023, p.
