Most people would argue that social media has a negative effect on our society, but Josh Rose, "a chief creative officer at Webster Shandwick," believes otherwise. (173) Josh Rose's essay, How Social Media is Having a Positive Impact on Our Culture, was featured on the online source Mashable.com on February 23, 2011. Rose uses his speech to argue the reasons why social media is beneficial, mainly focusing on how it connects us together; however, Rose doesn't give much credibility or opposition. Instead, he states points from his own personal experience and beliefs with lack of fluidity.

Social Media is a controversial topic. For this reason, many people have argued whether social media is positive or negative. Nevertheless, there is more evidence supporting the idea that social media has had positive implications on society. Reasons for this include that social media can help your career and that it can aid adolescents when it comes to socializing. However, there are several other individuals who hold on to a different view.

As much as social media has managed to ruin our society, it plays a positive role for the public as well. Social media allowed people to use their networks as a form of reaching out to old friends and family across the world. With America being known as the melting pot of the world, our society has several people with family on the other side of the Earth. With social media in effect, this permits people to stay in touch with long lost loved ones and keep ties tight. Not only has it sanctioned friends and family to keep in touches but has granted people to relocate birth parents and unknown family members as well. Yes, social media has failed our society greatly but there is always a rainbow somewhere after a rainy day. Social media can play a positive role by bringing people back together.

Social media has been a huge way that companies get people to buy things or donate money. Social media can have huge impacts on people by showing the things that are going wrong; like how the elephants are dying by poachers. If people don't help the elephants they can become extinct and they will not be around any more. The way social media knows me is by knowing what kind of things that can catch my attention, they do this by showing my things that I can buy to donate to this charity. A way that social media catches people's attention is by the way they can catch the reader's attention by the things that are going wrong. Most people know that the charities need help, but social media makes people want to donate to this charity. With social media doing this it will make people know that this organization need help to raise money. Depending on its use, social media can either be a healthy or hurtful for society. One could argue about this for days, but there is one thing we can agree with about social media. It gets information out there. Sometimes that information is negative, but in this case, it's healthy.
