I am a student from Grayslake Central High School in Illinois. During the summer I read a novel called Sold by Patricia McCormick. Sold really hit home for many reasons mostly because of all the thematic subjects it brings up including gender, power, suffering, innocence, and hope are just a few. I am writing this letter to ask for your support to make something that is very important to me happen. I believe with your help we can change many of families life’s. By helping me out you can save hundreds of lives everyday. I am worried that in a time of crisis my family and community will not be cared for and not suported the way other families and communities are. Since I truly care for everybody's regard, now more than ever, we need to create
Have you ever thought about people who need help in your community and ways you could help? In Aniak, Alaska, there was a need in the medical field because the town only had one doctor. A team of teenagers saw this need and decided they could do something about it and formed a team called the Dragon Slayers. On the other side of the country, Cassandra saw a different kind of need in her community. Because of harsh Rhode Island winters, fuel for heating homes is really important. She and her friends learned about biodiesel and how it could help her community. In the two articles, Defeating Dragons and Food That Fuels, young people saw community needs and helped bring positive change in unique ways.
I wanted to take a few minutes of your time to ask you to help me shine a light during a time where there is so much darkness in our country. With so much anger, resentment and despair consuming people’s thoughts, we seem to have forgotten the positive things taking place all around us, like the miracles that take place at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Let’s shine a bright light together by helping the amazing kids at St. Jude.
Staring at the screen, the young author sighed in frustration, her fingers once again failing her as she was distracted by the din of the news on TV. Resigned, she shut it off and turned back to her blank document wishing for the ability to channel her emotions towards the high expectations placed before her, as well as the stigmas. She was growing tired of the starkness of the world around her.
I'm raising money for an underfunded K-8 charter school in Philadelphia called the Cornerstone Christian Academy, and I'd like to invite you to join me in my efforts. Cornerstone provides a safe and nurturing learning environment for students who often come from low income, at risk neighborhoods. It is an organization that I think really deserves our support. If you would like to donate to the students of Cornerstone or simply want to learn more about the cause, click the link listed below to see my fundraising page on the Cornerstone Christian Academy website. The smallest of donations can make a huge
I am Madelyn Snodgrass, a new student to Mechanicsburg Middle School. I am writing this letter to inform you of my being at your new high school next year. I find myself (related to school studies) as a hardworking and independent person. School work is my main priority. I have many older relatives in this area that have passed through your high school that are willing to help guide me with any questions I have.
My mom had the best intentions, but she didn't know how to help me. My mother was practically a single mother for two years I had to grow up real quick. She had to work and I had to stay home, lock all the doors, and find a way to keep my little sister entertained. For a long time I didn't understand why my father had left. One day we got a call that my grandfather was in the hospital. A few days later he passed. That moment changed every single person in my family. Everyone was broken, but yet the spark that had been dead in all of us lit up. Over time, many of the scars from the past began to fade along with my bitter attitude. These experiences formed who my family is today and how they have raised me to be. I now understand my hardships weren’t an excuse to be unkind. I have grown into a responsible women with strong morals and values. The essay asked how would I contribute to the diversity of The University of Kentucky and the answer is I have a spark. A spark that no one else but I have. The spark that's going to give me that push to fight harder and stronger than any other
The homeless of American, especially the children are an important group in need that also leaves me concerned. While living in Hawaii, I had the pleasure of being allowed into a homeless camp to help provide tutoring services to the children that lived within.
This chapter starts with Greg Mortenson trying to type letters to sent to people with power and support in order to fund for the school. Although Greg got rejected from all of his 16 grant application, Vaughan introduced
I am a student of Booker T. Washington High School. I think it’s awesome how you wrote us this letter about your school and its history. It was very interesting to hear about your school and the way it is operated.
According to Dan brown, award winning journalists, article illustrates that many children in america are becoming homeless, being placed in foster homes and living in violent environments. This upsets a large amount of people because many children are experiencing things that adults would learn later on in life. The plans that should be done to prevent this disaster from happening is that there should be more focus on funding facilities that help kids and their parents to get back on their feet again. Dan Brown had said that children are living in violent homes, maybe the funding could somehow benefit the facilities to do get these kids off of the streets, another idea is to educate the parents on how to get a job, how to parent and how
Your book An Invisible Thread was very heartwarming story of a friendship that has reached thirty years and brought life and hope to a hungry and desperate boy. It's a very insightful story, which left me in tears many times. I loved the relationship that grew with you and Maurice. Even though I would get sometimes confused, you made it very easy to feel your emotions as well as his, telling the stories of your childhood. This book will really made me stop and think about what kind of person I am. I don't believe many people are like you. I don't think many people would have stopped to help a young boy asking for money on the street. But I would like to believe this book would help at least me consider being that kind of person. You are the type of person I strive to be, kind, thoughtful, giving. Your relationship with Maurice in fact did save his life. Anyone who reads this book can see that. But the fact is, when
¨I will give you half and the rest when she has proved her worth,¨she says (59). In Sold written by Patricia McCormick A young girl named Lakshmi was sold into human trafficking. A young girl who lived upon a mountain from nepal was only dreaming of the luxuries of a tin roof and maybe a light bulb or as she calls it a little sun in the ceiling. What is the value of human life? Human life is worth more than any amount of money in the world.
Companies closing or laying-off workers has left many un- and under-employed. Once a family begins operating at a deficit, recovery becomes more difficult. Without significant savings or familial support, circumstances may conspire to render families homeless through foreclosure or eviction. Once a family has lost stable housing and employment, regaining it may prove to be an insurmountable hurdle that may only be scaled with the assistance of the community.
I'm doing a project about your book, I'm supposed to write a letter to you explain how your book made me feel. Honestly, reading your book gave a lot of emotions, there’s times where you're happy, there's times when it's so true, it's sad or you get mad because you don't want that emotion to be happening. But there’s also times that you laugh or smile because it's true, but still kind of sad, because your book is mainly about sad things like people leaving or being hurt mentally and physically. So when I relate I kinda realize how messed up my real life is. I guess that would depend on the type of person you are, if you would see it as funny because how much you relate. I'm gonna guess that i’m
There are a lot of young single mothers out there that have kids and can’t provide for them. The either don’t have the know how or just don’t have the support group that they need. There are also a lot of families that have lost everything due to loss of jobs of natural disaster. These people need a place to stay till they get back on their feet, and they also may need a little family counseling. Then there is the whole homeless issue, these people have nowhere to go and need food and the bare necessities like everyone else.
