The topic I chose to write about wasn’t a typical topic but rather a song that goes by the name “The Phoenix”. It was written by Fall Out Boy band members Patrick Stump, Pete Wentz, Joe Trohman, and Andy Hurley. The song first appeared on US radios on July 16, 2013, though the album was released April 12 of that same year. The song being greatly inspired by Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich’s “Leningrad”. The songs’ music video is the second part of an eleven part music video series by the band. Other songs in the series include radio hit “My Song Knows What You Did in The Dark” and “Young Volcanoes”.
The song is the first in the album “Save Rock and Roll” (a comeback album). The message the band sends to the listener is a personal
Most audiences view music as a form of entertainment only, so society tends to overlook the messages behind the music. Some artists use music to promote their beliefs or inform their listeners about unnoticed issues. Music can spread awareness about misfortunes in the world, and Martina McBride uses her celebrity status to promote her own concerns about child abuse. In 2002, Martina McBride recorded a song titled “Concrete Angel” to spread awareness about child abuse. Her song addresses the general population, consisting of bystanders, because most people are aware of tragedies such as child abuse, but they ignore the problem. Through emotional appeals, characterization, imagery, and foreshadowing, “Concrete Angel” illustrates the story of a young girl’s abuse in order to call the bystanders to awareness of the societal problem.
Many people think that the poem A Song, by Helen Maria Williams, is just a love letter when, in fact, it is more of an expression of her relationship with her inspiration of writing.
While Augustus and Hazel were in Amsterdam, Gus tells Hazel about his PET scan. He says to her “I lit up like a Christmas tree, Hazel Grace. The lining of my chest, my left hip, my liver, everywhere.” (Green 214) This means that the PET scan showed he had tumors from cancer all over his body, Augustus was slowly dying from the newly arrived cancer.
The song concludes by referencing George Orwell’s classic dystopian novel “1984” with the lines “Who controls the past now controls the future / Who controls the present now controls the past” (lines 49-51),
While reading page nine through fifteen in the Wake Tech English 111 Reader I learned new strategies and tips on how to improve my song summary essay. I learned how to implement new strategies in my song summary essay so that I could write my introduction, body paragraphs and conclusion proficiently in my paper. Mutually, before reading the Wake Tech English 111 Reader I also did not know that when writing a rough draft for an essay a conclusion, introduction or body paragraph could be written first. Similarly, Ashley I always thought that an introduction had to be written before any other part of an academic essay. Primarily, I thought that an introduction had to be written first because my previous English teachers stressed
Each decade comes with a new set of values, morals, and judgements. The 1960’s was the start of the breakdown of carried-on norms. The younger generations were aggressively expressing themselves with promiscuous clothing, hippy music, and ideas of new freedoms for genders and race. “The Harper Valley P.T.A.” is a narrative song written by Tom Hall to make a statement about the growing display of hypocrisy in small towns. Hall wrote the song in 1968 after a true story he had heard as a child in his hometown. Harper Valley P.T.A. shames the hypocritical leaders for deeming others immoral for their flaws.
I think the author of the poem, "leaving the Motel," would approve of the song, "Me and Mrs. Jones," to express his poem in song form. It defines a furtive affair between a man and his lover. In the poem, "Leaving the Motel," the author describes two people are having an affair. The private couple do not want to get caught and ruin their lives outside of the relationship. The author writes, "Too. Keep things straight: don't take --The matches, the wrong keyrings--We've nowhere we could keep a keepsake" This line means the couple is double-check to make sure they have nothing of each others. Snodgrass was implying that there is no room for any mistakes in this relationship. If they had taken something of one another, they would be found out. Their secret would be relived. Now in the song, the composer Billy Paul writes, "We gotta be extra careful -- That do we don't build our
How can anyone overlook the moment when they realized who their favorite band or artist was? That moment for me occurred back in Summer of 2009. Phoenix released their fourth studio album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix on May 25, 2009. This upbeat, French indie-pop band changed my life and the way I perceived music to this day. What upset me after hearing this album is that I had already missed nearly 10 years of their career.
I initially came across this band when they were first starting to gain popularity and cross into the main stream with indie rock/pop. The title of the song hints at what they are going through and at what’s to come in their future as a band. In the chorus, the lyrics are: This seems like their acknowledgment of the fact –with the release of this album—that they are going to get screaming and blindly adoring fans that don’t really care about them as musicians. The hysteria or Lisztomania from these fans sometimes represent a riot because they loose control of themselves. The band understands how the music industry works, so they want to enjoy their new found success and fame until the masses become bored or tired of them. This is also a cue I took when I first heard to lyrics to just enjoy the moment and not think too much about the meanings behind the music. We were all just going to enjoy the ride that is music. In the end, like most songs in this genre, the cheery and fast paced nature of the song works to mask the sad undertones that an in depth look at the lyrics can
NAME OF ARTIST SELECTED The artist selected is Stevin Ryan and his genre of music is a mix of hip hop and alternative rock. The artist’s music focuses on relationships, parties, life of today’s youth, and hustling (to do anything you need to do to make money). The listener can often relate to the topics and will be able to find a song that fit their moods whether it is happy or sad, upbeat or pessimistic. The lyrics of the song can appear to be sexual and raunchy or hopeful or tell some kind of story.
The piece of art I chose is is a song that I listened to a lot as a kid and still listen to today. The melodies and instruments transcend the lyrics. However , the lyrics hold so much more. I lived on a fire station as a kid when this song came out. Actually it was a tape in 1985. I thought because of the association with my dad being gone on fires all the time, that this song “The Working Hour,” related to him and his need to be away working on fires all the time. As an adult, I still feel those feelings as I did when I was 7 yrs old, however now I am the one working. I do the same job, and the working hour means something more to me now then it did when I was a kid waiting for my father to return from fires. This was a time when work to
“We leave something of ourselves behind when we leave a place, we stay there, even though we go away” (Pascal Mercier). Leaving somewhere or someone behind, that is loved, can be very a difficult and trying time in one's life. Many times one will go through several different phases of emotions before they can really comprehend what is happening. For some leaving may be a chance to chase their wildest dreams, and for others leaving is a way to say goodbye permanently. In the passages “Departure” and the “Song-Farewell to Eliza” both the main character and the speaker are impacted in different ways by their departure from the place or people they love.
At first listen, “Breezeblocks” seems like an ordinary “trip-folk” style of music by the foursome also known as Alt-j, but if you listen closer it is discernible that the lyrics go much deeper into the psyche of someone deeply in love and what happens when the love is not reciprocated.
You can accuse Kanye West of being many things, but the one thing you shouldn’t accuse him of is being boring. The Life of Pablo is a hip-hop gospel based album really explores Kanye’s faith through struggle and failure. This album is nothing like his last, Yeezus but it sure does bring power like any of his albums.
As the power of a song resides completely in its lyrics, it is no longer surprising that music can be healing, inspiring, or even motivating. After introducing this insight to my life, it became very rare for me to listen to any Imagine Dragons’ song without it leaving an impact on my life and my perspectives. Imagine Dragons is a rock band whose music tends to address both personal and social issues. It’s Time, one of their biggest hits and most influential songs, was written by the band’s lead singer Dan Reynolds during a difficult time in his life. “ I was not very happy with who I was, I guess, and I wanted to make some changes” says the singer in an interview with Purevolume , in which he addresses It’s Time as a poem he wrote to express
