When I ask you about Seattle, what is the first noun that comes to your head. Besides a few; coffee, rain, and the worst play call in NFL history the first thing most people think of when hearing of Seattle is the Space Needle. At 605 feet high, 138 feet wide, and weighing in at 9,550 tons the Space Needle is located on 400 broad street in Seattle Washington. The 1962 world’s fair took place in Seattle, in honor of the Worlds Fair the Space Needle was built. It took around a year to build starting construction April 17, 1961 and completed April 21, 1962. Artist Edward E. Carlson had a job to design a futuristic object to showcase in Seattle with the theme of the 21st century. The outcome of this design was much more then an observation tower, restaurant, and shop. It is the symbol of this amazing city. There is reasoning for everything and the reason I chose this symbol is because …show more content…
With the Needle expressing us as a city it expresses our cities unwritten values and beliefs. Washington with predominant help from Seattle was one of the first states to legalize marijuana as well as gay marriage. This goes to show the openness and unique vibe our city. This vibe rubs off on all the citizens of Seattle giving us these “open minded” “free spirited” values. As go the beliefs, growing up in the Seattle Public Schools education system money was a problem some of the material was not great but the one concept they preached everyday was equality of everyone. Everyone is equal and our respect should be given to each person we encounter. This has stuck with me and is what you can call “the Seattle way”. I am not trying to brag and say I am a perfect human to everyone because that is not true. I will say if you ever visit Seattle you will be shocked of how welcoming everyone is. That is something we take pride
The year 1917, World War I ensued as tensions grew. Who would have known one-hundred years later the world would become dominated by technology and modern science. The year is now 2017, an engineer named Elon Musk is revolutionizing modern technology by challenging the limits of science. His pursuit of achieving greatness did not end with Tesla’s success, he continued by founding SpaceX. A company founded to revolutionize space technology. My fascination with Elon Musk’s SpaceX derived from my obsession with stars and space. Growing up, I spent countless nights gazing upon the twinkling stars wondering if life could ever exist in such remote places. Scientifically thinking, if bacteria can survive in tundras and other worst climates, such creatures
Millions of people all over the world watched as Apollo 11 was launched from Kennedy Space Center on July 16, 1969. Two hours after it left Earth, the rocket Lunar Command and Landing Modules separated from the main rocket, and three days later the crew entered lunar orbit. A day later the landing section separated from the Lunar Command Module and landed on the moon.
Planning for the Apollo Space Program began in 1957 and the program ended in 1972. The Apollo Space Missions increased our understanding of the moon. The goal of the missions was to land men on the moon and return them safely to earth. This goal was achieved with Apollo 11. On July 20, 1969 man walked on the moon for the first time. This was a huge step in space exploration and much preparation had gone into it. Apollo 8 orbited the moon, but did not test a lunar lander, and Apollo 9 tested a lunar lander while orbiting earth. After achieving the goal of getting man to the moon, the Apollo program continued to enlarge our understanding of the moon. Apollo missions 12 and 14 installed seismic stations on the moon’s surface. This led us to the discovery of “moonquakes”, which are essentially earthquakes on the moon’s surface.
In November 2011, retired astronaut James Lovell sold a valuable item through an auction house. It was a checklist from the Apollo 13 moon mission in 1970. It was sold by Heritage Auctions for more than $388,000. It brought in so much money because it has Lovell's handwritten notes on it. Now, though, NASA is claiming that Lovell had no right to sell the checklist. The agency claims that the checklist did not belong to Lovell; it belonged to NASA. NASA is also making this claim for three other items from the auction.
I chose Bingham Academy because my mom wanted me to go here and it's it's a public charter school. I am not attending another school because I don't want to and my mom does not want me to. I chose Bingham Academy because it's a small school, there's not very many people attending, and there's a higher chance of people actually learning instead of being told what to do all the time, like most other schools we go until three twenty five or later, in our case, we go until three fifty. Bingham Academy is an open campus as well.
Have you heard about that band Twenty One Pilots? No? Well it is your lucky day because my goal is to prove to you that their music is phenomenal. Twenty One Pilots is a band made up of two members; Tyler Joseph, who is the lead singer and Joshua Dun, who is the drummer. They began in 2009 and have gained quite a fan base since then (Fred Thomas). Their unique sound and relatable music are the reasons why I believe they are the best band to ever exist.
Apollo 13 was the seventh attempted mission to go to the moon for the third time in April 11th 1970. The men who were assigned to that mission were Jim Lovell Fred Haise and Ken Mattingly. However Ken Mattingly got diagnosed with the measles, so they had to replace Ken with Jack Swigert who was the backup command module pilot for the Odyssey.
The mission and values that are of importance will be taken from Portland, Oregon, Houston, Texas, Madison, Wisconsin because all of their attributes is beneficial to the community. For instance, it is vital that police officers work with the community, whether than against them regardless of their geographical location. A law enforcement officer cannot become effective to the community unless there are some trust and respect(Cordner, G.W., 2016). I believe that The Constitutional Rights need to be exercised and protect when it dehumanizes people. Therefore, peace and providing a safe environment is needed in our society now, due to terrorism and other malicious crime. Spokane Washington value statement states that it is service oriented,
“Even when I doubt you, I’m no good without you.” Without the band, Twenty One Pilots, I’d be in a much darker, quieter place that I am today. Twenty One Pilots is a two-man band that originated from Ohio, and has been slowly gaining more and more followers especially as of late. They also happen to be one of my all-time favorite bands. Their music consists of such depth, it is some of the greatest poetry I’ve ever heard, and it’s so relatable because they have dealt with and experienced everything that they discuss in their songs. The topics included in their music are issues such as anxiety, depression, and loneliness, but also the gradual journey toward recovery and reaching happiness- even if those negative things still exist inside.
The end of one world war and almost the start of another was all due to one project—the Manhattan Project. The Manhattan Project, using its exceptional confidentiality and top brains during World War Two, created three destructive bombs that would change the world forever.
On, April 11, 1970 Nasa launched the Apollo 13 mission to send three astronauts. To the moon , and mark the third named lunar landing. The mission aimed to send Commander Jim Lovell and lunar module pilot Fred Haise to the lunar surface while command module pilot Jack Swigert remained in orbit. But on April 13, the mission suffered a crippling explosion that would nearly doom the spaceflight and its crew. But Apollo 13 carried an oxygen tank with a troubled history. The tank had been damaged in testing, but the space craft builders were not aware of a problem. The cyclinder service module had six held the fuel tanks. Sector 4 held the damaged oxygen tank at about 56 hours into the flight of Apollo 13, Jack Swigert was instructed to “Stir
Following the space race between the United States and the Soviet Union which ended with Apollo 11 successfully landing two people on the moon, NASA furthered space exploration by sending out Apollo 12 and 13. Apollo 13 was the seventh manned mission to the moon, which carried Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert, and Fred Haise. After weeks of preparation, the mission was launched on April 11, 1970 and had appeared to be going successfully up until the oxygen tank in the service module rupture. For the next days leading up to the astronauts arriving back on earth, mission control and the crew (protagonist) have to fight the malfunctions of the module (antagonist) in order to keep the crew alive. Through trial and error, Ken Mattingly discovers a procedure
Back then just a press of a button could destroy an entire town. The code name for the united states program to develop an atomic bomb during WWII, the Manhattan Project was the largest scientific effort undertaken to that time. In early 1939, the world’s scientific community discovered that german physicists had learned the secrets of splitting a uranium atom. Fears soon spread over the possibility of nazi scientists utilizing.
At 10 a.m. CDT, August 12, 1969, Julian Scheer, NASA's Assistant Administrator for Public Affairs, opened the televised Apollo 11 post-flight press conference in the auditorium of the Manned Spacecraft Center, Houston, Texas. Addressing some two hundred representatives of the news media from the United States and abroad, he said: "Ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to the Manned Spacecraft Center. This is the Apollo 11 press conference. The format today will consist of a 45-minute presentation by the Apollo 11 crew, followed by questions and answers. At this time, I would like to introduce the Apollo 11 crew, astronauts Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Edwin Aldrin, Jr."
Did you know that one flip of a switch almost cost the lives of three astronauts? On April 13, 1970 three astronauts were blasted into space to go on a mission to explore a section of the moon called Fra Mauro. Every thing was perfect until they were preparing to land on the moon. Faulty wiring caused an explosion in their spacecraft, which drained their oxygen and power. The three men then had to move back and forth between two different space crafts. There were many problems along the way, but they eventually made it home. Though they never completed their original mission, they did complete the mission took make it back to Earth alive. There are many reasons why this mission ended up being a success.
