I selected this particular program, Fordham Granada, because I am interested in learning more about the culture of Spain and European politics. I saw that there is a class in Granada that talks about the political system of the European Union which is something that caught my attention. I am also excited to explore Spain and see their history in addition to being able to practice my Spanish. Although I am a native Spanish Speaker, I know that there is a different root of the Spanish language that is used in Spain, furthermore, making me curious to learn and be able to see the small differences between the Spanish language that I know versus the original Spanish language.
At my understanding, the term Hispanic is wrongly used when referring to a race. Being Hispanic is, of course, to belong to an ethnic group, but it is much more than that. It is not about the color of your skin or your hair, but about culture, tradition, and manners. All started with the Spanish and Portuguese colonization of South and Central America. From Europe came the adventurous men, full of ambitions and courage. These attributes blended with the strength and energy of African slaves and the Native Americans, and this mixture led to the born of this new culture that we called Hispanic.
Have you ever wondered how High Schools are in other countries? Despite sharing some minor similarities, the differences between Nicaraguan and American High School education are clear. Such as, note-taking methods, grading system, classroom environment.
In researching the business culture of another foreign country for the use of an informational memo. I want to let my classmates, know what country has been chosen to research and share some of it's interesting facts on the country of Cuba.
American culture is heavily influenced by the Hispanic culture because when Hispanic people move to America they bring their culture with them. Their culture has influenced our religion, cuisine, social media, etc. Hispanic people make up 15.8% of the population in America so it is no surprise that they are the leading minority group to have influence on American culture.
Culture can be seen from the interaction of many things such as history, activities and developments. It is also represented in the form of people live. Living in two different countries is a unique experience that gives you a new way of thinking. In my case I have lived in Colombia and now in the United States. Despite bearing some minor similarities, the differences between this to countries are notable in geography, festivities, economic and food.
Culture is the overall moral belief, customs, language, and attitudes a person is brought and raised into. Daily, we are exposed to diverse and different cultures everyday which allow us to learn the different values and traditions each culture possess. The importance of observing and learning different customs is beneficial because it can help us better adapt and prevent misunderstandings when we communicate and interact with others. Hispanics and Americans are two huge cultures that have been sharing the same living space for years but are an example of two different civilizations. While both, Hispanics and Americans, share many similarities they both differ in recognition of religion, language,
Frequently, we do not put too much attention to our own cultural values and traditions until we are exposed to a different culture, and start comparing. In order to have a more productive and fruitful life I believe we need to become more self-aware and more sensitive to the culturally and ethnically diverse community we live in. Two cultures that have been sharing the same living space for centuries are the Hispanic and American culture. In this paper I would be analyzing each culture giving a brief background and pointing out some aspects in how they differ, like the perception of time, family, orientation, and others. American culture has a couple of aspects in which it differs from the Hispanic culture, which for the
Latino Americans are facing issues with their identity because of their ethnic and racial backgrounds due to our education institutions in America. These issues result in a separation of their American and Latino culture creating two different identities but not enough of American or Latino identity to fully feel part of either culture.
The Hispanic population has experienced an incredible growth in the past decade in the United States of America. In 2006 it was estimated that the Hispanic cover 11 % of the population in North America. Their Origin is in Mexico and the few Spanish speaking countries in the Caribbean. American culture is derived from people who originated from the European nations like Italy and the Great Britain. Cultural identity is very important for every ethnic group as it shapes the culture of that particular faction and therefore, a certain culture cannot realize its own values until it is exposed to another one.
In the 1500s, a clash between two worlds occurred. Although the French and the Spanish had the same religion and economic ideology, their treatment of the natives were vastly different. The Spanish used their superior military to commit atrocities against the natives, while the French allied their military with the natives. The Spanish used their religious zealotry to justify their heinous crimes, and sent missionaries to completely convert the natives, the French, meanwhile, believed the natives should have their religion if they wished, but still sent missionaries to the natives willing to convert. At first contact, the Spanish began to enslave the natives and put them to terrible labor, the French also desired materials from the natives, but they traded goods with them rather than kill and loot them.
While Texas leader Stephen Austin initially had no contempt toward Mexicans, the Anglo-American citizens in the area did. The American Texans of the 1800’s defined Mexicans as “a race alien to everything that Americans held dear” (De Leon 4). This sentiment would serve as the primary catalyst to the Texas secession from Mexico. When Austin began colonizing the area, he envisioned a place in which Anglo-Americans and Tejanos, Mexicans living in Texas, could live together. Eventually, though, the public opinions of North American settlers in the territory and in Washington would make him realize that the goal of unity between the two groups was impossible.
What does this mean globally? Does this mean the English language will slowly take over America as the Spanish influences its way into America.

While studying in America, I have encountered a meal problem with my host-family because of cultural difference. In China, lunch is the most important and delicious meal for the day. Thus, I was so picky about the food I ate for lunch. However, my host-family neither knew about my culture nor asked me about what kinds of lunch I liked, insisting on making sandwiches for a day to two weeks. One day, I finally had the courage to tell her that I do not want sandwiches anymore; she was unexpectedly confused and told me that sandwiches were typical for American lunch. After that, I was so upset and started to hate sandwiches by throwing them away and complained about my host family to my mom. And, my school life was also filled with unhappy and
Considering that every countries exhibits individual cultures, and beliefs, Americans share many values, and beliefs. America citizens have the opportunity to learn, associate, and befriend people with different belief and values, due to the diversity within the society. Nevertheless, cultural difference, is broad and may include one’s gender, sexual preference, ethnic background, and religion. With that said, although, people may occupy the same culture, there is certainly a difference in belief of those individuals. The reason I brought this realistic concept forward, is due to one’s ability to assume that people who share similar traditions or cultures, also share similar or the same beliefs, as a result, they don’t. This assumption has, and will mislead the direction of an individual’s communication, rather it’s verbal, or nonverbal. Overall, culture diversity may
