From understanding this piece of literature, it shows the audience that there is this psychological importance in the last scene since it shows a sign of symbolism and irony. However, Ivan Ilych is showing the audience that he feels like the topic death is such an undeserved punishment where he could never consider his own mortality. As a matter of fact, it shows the audience that the word fear is one of the following emotions that may drive a person insane at one point. Society and religion even use the topic of fear in a way to convince people to control their ego at one point. At the value of this literature, Leo Tolstoy is not based on a Christian novel, but at one point the topic of spirituality is mentioned towards the end of the story. As a matter of fact, there are plenty of vague references that are based on the life and based on the topic of the afterlife which leaves the reader to pick out the differences in what Tolstoy is referring to in this story. In regard, of this piece of fiction in the opinion of the reader it shows that Tolstoy’s The Death of Ivan Ilyich is such a masterpiece due to the fact, it can be described as a work of art at one point. As an opinion from the reader herself, it shows the audience that Tolstoy is immediately absorbing the reader by beginning the story with Ivan’s death.
