My everyday routine is nothing short of excitement, the thrill I get from my everyday life is seeing what is going on in the sports realm. Sports controls my everyday activities and makes me who I am. I have an extreme passion and love for almost every sport known to mankind. I am a hard core typical sports fanatic in today’s world. The first reason is sports controls how I act and talk. Secondly, I spend an excessive amount of time consuming sports activities. Perhaps the trait the plays the biggest role in making me such a huge fanatic is the amount of money I put into sports. First off, my vocabulary and the way I talk is often controlled by sports and my passion for the games. Just like most sports fans I love to trash talk especially when my teams are succeeding. For example, when I go to a sports event if my team is winning I love rubbing it in the faces of the supporters for the opposing team. Sports affects how I talk by effecting my mood based on my teams’ performances whether it is good or bad. For instance, when the Philadelphia Eagles lose my mood is atrocious and I speak negatively with little hope in my voice. However, when they win I use much more positive words through the week and I become upbeat. Often people know if the Eagles won their game based on how I act and speak. The way I talk is one aspect that proves that I am a typical sports fanatic that lets sports control my life. Secondly, it is obvious to the world that I am a typical ports fanatic due
Young athlete’s main goal to attain is to become a professional athlete. Many want to become a professional athlete due to the money, others for the love of the particular sport that they are interested in. There is a downside in becoming a professional athlete, that many young players are not aware of. This downside is that professional athletes’ go broke faster than they are drafted into the leagues. Many professional athletes such as NBA and NFL players go broke due to career duration, overspending, family issues, and lack of financial knowledge.
After watching ESPN’s 30 for 30, Broke, my mind starting pondering this question of why and how so many professional athletes are blowing through the millions they make while playing their specific sport? It is amazing that someone can spend that much money so quickly. What are they buying and who are they buying things for? Where are they spending it? Where do they go wrong? When did this trend start and will it continue in the future? What are the league officials doing in order to prevent this tragedy from happening? These are some of the questions I will try to answer throughout this paper.
Professional sports has become one of the most popular industries in the world today. The media spends billions of dollars on advertisements and teams spend millions of dollars on professional athletes all for one reason, the fans. The fans ticket sales and merchandise purchases are what keeps all the sport teams around and prevents professional athletes from losing their jobs. There are three types of fans in the sports world, average fans, fanatics, and fair-weather fans.
In today’s world there are usually two people, athletes and non-athletes. Now out of the millions of sub-categories of humans; whether it be race or gender or preference or nationality, it all comes down to two types of people, those who play sports and those who watch. For those who play there is a whole lot of effort, and little reward. People say, “why can playing for a big-name school not be enough?” or, “You have a scholarship, quite asking for more”. Those who watch, think to themselves, those players probably have the highlife, flying in jets, and being paid money out of pocket. When they could not be further from the truth. For their extra work, and
The time and effort I have put into each and every day to shape who I am displays my dedication. Growing up, I had a vision of who I wanted to become because of the influential people who surrounded me. As my current chapter is coming to an end, I realized I obtained my goal; I have managed to play every sport that interested me. My goal led me to play my three favorite sports, all four years of high school. Along with my athletic abilities, I have managed to maintain a spot in the top ten percent of my class, which made me eligible to participate in National Honor Society.
College athletes arguably possess a similar and often equivalent skill set to that of a professional athlete and may even train just as hard as a professional athlete. However, a college students relationship to athletics is no different than a high school student who participates in their schools athletics program. These young athletes participate in their chosen sport without any expectation of monetary compensation in return. In fact, many athletes at non-professional levels pay hundreds or even thousands of dollars annually to participate in their chosen extracurricular sporting activities (Alderman, 2013). This is their choice and they are not financially compensated for it. These athletes play for the joy of the sport, life lessons and in some cases, the hopes of one day becoming a professional athlete.
I have always loved sports ever since I was a little kid. Some of my earliest memories are of playing soccer with my friends on a wet, cold spring day or hitting a ball off of a tee and feeling like it went a mile, when in reality it only went about fifty feet. Even to this day I still can never get enough of sports. I get about four weeks off out of the entire year where I’m not technically in a sport, but I’m still always practicing and trying to get better because that’s the only way I know. I love everything about sports: the friendships, the competition, the passion, the atmosphere, the unity. Sports are one of my true loves and they consume my life. It is this strong desire that I have for sports that has driven me to want to pursue a
Athletics has played an instrumental role promoting success in all branches of life impacting my performance in school, work and other life facets. Involvement in athletics taught me the value of commitment allowing me to play in Division 1 Women’s Soccer while attending the University of Washington. As a former student athlete, I have been winning and losing my entire life developing my own resilience and tremendous work ethic to work with others toward a common goal. My drive spills over into my professional interactions and career aspirations allowing me to connect
From my first T-Ball team to my senior year track club, the comradery and confidence I have gained from competing on numerous sports teams has made an enormous impact on my life. Growing up, I went to a very small Catholic school. With less than 100 students in the entire school district. In third grade, our family moved to Manteno. Where each grade level had at least 120 students. Baseball and Basketball were crucial for me in my early years. It was how I became acquainted with most of my friends growing up in Manteno. If it wasn’t for competing on a team, I would have stayed timid for the rest of my life. With the confidence sports have gave me, I have been able to challenge myself to experience the world and all
A typical athlete story can now be known as a riches to rags story. Though there are positive and there are also negatives effects to this. Star athletes make so much money that it makes people sick, meanwhile it is also sickening our athletes mentally. The professional sporting world is now turning into a money-hungry occupation. Along with this hunger for cash comes a solid incentive for productivity.
An active lifestyle was enthusiastically encouraged by my parents for their three boys to support not only physical activity and growth, but a competitive spirit, and a sense of belonging with peers from my school and the community. Through hard work and practice I played at the top level for every sport that I tried out for. What I lacked in size I made up for with heart, hustle, and passion. Consequently, my personal compensation was the pride I earned through hours of practice to develop the skills needed to perform at the highest level.
Regardless of Mihir Bhagat’s argument towards the income professional athletes receive yearly, he needs to comprehend the earnings it gathers, the amount of hard work placed into each sport, and the amount of pressure they face every single day to maintain specific goals. In his article, Bhagat contradicts himself when describing how “one
In today's sports, having fun simply doesn't cut it anymore. I guess it's because it isn't “cool” enough. Sports, as well as many other fields, such as theaters, movies and television, has turned into show business (the entertainment industry). The reason why such a dramatic change has happened was never severely questioned until recently, and the answer that comes up the most is the fact that today's team owners, managers and coaches emphasizes winning and obtaining power more than enjoyment and the process of development. However, although winning is a great rewarding feeling to have after a competition of any sort, is putting emphasis on acquiring
The value of entertainment in our society is arguable. We as a society constantly search for new ways to entertain ourselves; professional sports are a major contribution to our source of entertainment. If those who support athletes and their sports have no problem paying to see them,
Sports fan bases are the most critical part for every professional organization! Athletes have gifted physical abilities and make tons of money because of that, but for many of them the greatest joy is playing for the fans and trying to win them championships. The reality is sports are nothing without fans otherwise there wouldn't be trash talk or really anything for the players to feed off of during competition. Football is one of the most popular sports in history and goes back many generations creating huge fan bases for teams like the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys franchises that have been around since the 1900’s. Allowing for the tradition of being a fan to be passed down from family member to family member.
