"What dear brothers, is more delightful than the voice of the Lord calling to us?" ~ Saint Benedict. Benedict was born on March 2, 480 in Norcia, Italy. As a child, Benedict attended primary school in his hometown. However, he then traveled to Rome to continue his studies in literature and law. Appalled by Rome's political issues, Benedict decided to leave the city and reside with a group of priests. In the ministry, he preformed his first miracle. Benedict restored a broken wheat sifter to its perfect condition. Astonished by his actions, Benedict set out to dwell in a cave isolated from society. Consumed by desolation, Benedict's only contact with the outside world was a fellow monk named Romanus. He bestowed Benedict with basic necessities
Saint Francis was one of the most selfless people to live. Francis gave up his rich and lavish life style to live as Jesus Christ did. There are many qualities that Saint Francis possessed that I can connect to a few people I know, but the few that I am going to be relating to my life would be his generosity, how prayerful he was and his humbleness. I believe that two of my close friends possess qualities that make them like Francis.
Saint Francis, widely known as Saint Francis of Assisi, is one of the world’s most beloved and well-known saints. He’s the patron of animals, merchants, and ecology. Saint Francis was born in Assisi, Italy in 1181 to very wealthy parents. Pietro Bernardone, the father of St. Francis, a very wealthy merchant returned from a trip to France to find out his wife had given birth to a son. The last thing Pietro wanted was a son that was a man of God, he wanted a man of businessman as a son, a great merchant like he was, and he wanted a son who would reflect his love with France. So he renamed his son Francesco, which was a calling of a Frenchman.
St. Benedict was an incredible monk that created 12 monasteries and was an abbot for many years. St. Benedict was destined for greatness when he was young and was able to pray for a vase to be fixed. He preformed many miracles and was a man that has greatly impacted Catholicism. He created a Rule that monks, and everybody else in the catholic community should live by. Some rules that relate to my life that I have found are rules about clothing, rank, humility, obedience, and serious faults. Along with finding rules that relate to my life, I have found some rules that would be a challenge for me but would improve my life are amount of food consumed, silence, prayer, repent for reproofs, and impossible tasks.
Saint Benedict was born in 480, in a noble Italian family in Umbria. To be placed in the public schools, he was sent to Rome at the age of seven. He fled to the desert mountains of Subiaco, which was forty miles from Rome, at the age of fourteen. He then was directed by the Holy Spirit into a cave, known as the Holy Grotto. He lived there for three years. Romanus brought him food and clothed him. When God advised a priest to take food to His servant, Saint Benedict was discovered one Easter day. They took their meal together, when the priest search the hills and finally found the solitary. Soon the fame of this hermit’s sanctity began to spread, when some shepherds also knew of his
Thomas Aquinas was born around 1227 in the Italian town of Roccasecca. His father, Landulph, who was the count of the commune of Aquino, put Thomas under the care of the Benedictines of Monte Cassino at the age of five. There he was noted as a quick learner, as he surpassed his peers in learning and the practice of virtue. When he was of age, Thomas chose to enter the Order of Saint Dominic, and went to study in Cologne, under St. Albert the Great. At the age of twenty-five, he became a priest and was appointed to teach in Cologne, while at the same time he began to publish his first works. After four years there, he was sent to Paris where he befriended the King, St. Louis, and at the age of thirty-one, he received his doctorate. He left the
Despite my experience at St Christopher's, I still dreamed of being allowed to implement just one music program based on apostolic principles in just one Anglican parish in the Diocese. Somehow I knew God would reward my persistence with yet another chance. The call came sooner than I had expected; this time from the Reverend Fran Willis, rector of St. Timothy’s Anglican Church.
You, St. Clare the worthy servant of God, graced with beauty on earth and now the privilege of gazing at the kind and loving face of Jesus in the heavenly kingdom.

SAINT MARY’S CHURCH On Saturday September Twenty Second I attended a mass at Saint is located in the down area of Saint Mary’s Pennsylvania. The church is connected to a convent with a local elementary school across the street. It stands to be the biggest and oldest church in Saint Mary’s. Saint Mary’s was the first Catholic Church established in the new found community. German settlers that established homes in the Saint Mary’s area created the church. The German parishioners are the people responsible for establishing the church in 1852. But the town was very segregated between the Germans and the Irish. The Irish decided to establish there own Catholic Church, which is, called Sacred Heart Church. The church is located less that a block
St. Stephen, the First Martyr’s feast day is December 26. The date of his birth is not known. He died in c. 34. Very little is known about St. Stephen. He is first talked about in the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 6:5). St. Stephen is the patron saint of stonemasons, deacons, casketmakers, horses, headaches, sufferers, widowers, etc….. He has many symbols. In Eastern art, he is usually seen in the robes of a deacon, often, swinging a censer (the container in which incense is burned) and is sometimes shown holding a small church. In Western art, he is often shown holding the stones that were the instrument of his martyrdom, as well as palm. Both Eastern and Western art have shown him wearing the martyr’s crown.
A philosopher is a person who offers their thoughts, theories, and views on questions that are thought about in logic, ethics, or other logical fields. A saint is a person that is chosen by God to lead a life of virtue, benevolence, and to carry out many of the messages he has for us. They are to live under the rules of Church teaching and profess the Christian religion. There are many great philosophers and saints that have had a great impact on Christian Theology. One of these great saints and philosophers which have had a great impact on the Church is Saint Bonaventure, also known as the Doctor of the Church.
Saint Thomas Becket was born in London on December 21, 1118. The Archbishop of Canterbury, Theobold, noticed St. Thomas’ talent. Taking part in missions to Rome, he was recognized by King Henry II. King Henry appointed St. Thomas to be his Chancellor. They both became friends very quickly. St. Tomas was very loyal and put the King’s interest first.
St. Paul wasn’t always a holy man. He once was a man who persecuted Christians, but when he saw a vision of Jesus, his whole life turned around and made him one of the key contributors to the success of the Church. St. Paul represented the four marks of the church every day of his life after his sudden conversion. The main teachings he lived by, which are the four marks of the Church, were one, holy, catholic, and apostolic. As he followed these morals, he spread them all over the world. His preaching is one of the main reasons the Church thrives today and has so many members. He set an example for new Christians to act as he traveled the world.
A person in history which I admire greatly is St. Francis de Sales. The reason I admire him and love to think of him is because of his disposition towards all such that the Church has declared him, "All things to all men and women." At the same time he was generous and kind-hearted to all, he was also a great leader who nevertheless submitted his leadership decisions in all things to the King of Kings, Jesus Christ.
