The Stamp Act was passed on March 22, 1765. It would take effect on November 1st of the same year. This act was used to pay a tax on basically every piece of paper. The people that it affected were the colonists. It was stated in the act that the admiralty courts would have jurisdiction over the offenders. This was viewed as an attempt to lessen the power of the colonial courts (SFI one, About Education). The act was also created to take money directly from the colonists because of the British being in debt from war.
The rich and wealthy were the most impacted. They had no power when they were used to all of the power. They felt useless and poor. They also felt like the British did not respect them. They started to boycott all of the goods that the stamp act affected.
The political views of the British colonies in America were different from Britain’s views. Britain emerged from the French and Indian War with a huge amount of debt. Britain wanted to maintain its control over the British colonies in America and also wanted the colonies to help pay the debt from the War. Parliament passed several acts, one being the Stamp Act, levying taxes on the colonies. The colonists felt they had no representation in Britain and should not be taxed without representation. The colonists did not want the Stamp Act to be a precedence for future tax acts. The Virginia legislature passed resolutions against the act. Riots broke out throughout the colonies, including Virginia. Effigies of George Mercer, the stamp distributor in Virginia, were hanged and burned. In Williamsburg, Mercer was greeted by an angry mob. The Virginia legislature in Williamsburg passed resolutions against the Stamp Act. Eventually, Parliament repealed the act. Actions by both the colonists and the British demonstrated their philosophical differences. The colonists boycotted British goods in an effort to avoid paying import taxes. Interestingly, there was

This act angered many colonists and the colonists can not let this pass them. “The English passed the Stamp Act so the colonists can help pay their expenses from the French and Indian War”(Colonial Unrest). With anger, groups like the Sons of Liberties stopped stamped paper being unloaded off decks. Then, merchants had a plan and agreed not to buy anything from the British. Also, representatives from different colonies formed the Stamp Act Congress and demanded Parliaments to reverse the act. In conclusion,
During the Stamp Act of 1765, the American colonists successfully repealed the tax by lobbying. Unfortunately this resulted in the failed attempt to end taxation without representation. The Stamp Act crisis occured prior to the Revolutionary War from 1765-1766. It was one of the important influences of the start of the war ten years later. The Americans demonstrated their courage many times throughout history, and it was shown during this crisis.
The stamp act eventually lead to serious things. The stamp act caused the Boston Massacre. The Boston Massacre started when a group started throwing sticks, stones, and other things at British soldiers. The stamp act eventually led to the American Revolution. The Revolution was a war between the Colonist and the British. The thirteen colonies fought against the British. The stamp act is what caused all of this destruction. The british should have just let the colonist be them They had to try to be the boss over everything. It eventually came back on the British. I think if the British wouldn't have been

Conflict over the Stamp Act caused great discord in Parliament over how to deal with the colonies. It also caused British merchants to appeal to Parliament because of their lost revenue from colonial boycotts. The efforts to effect a repeal of the Stamp Act was aided by the dismissal of
The act angered colonial merchants because it only allowed tea to be bought from the East India Company. The issue of “taxation without representation” occurred and was felt even more than before. The colonist and merchants felt that the tax was unconstitutional and boycotted the tea. “...the tea boycott mobilized large segments of the population.” [ The Unfinished Nation, Alan Brinkley pg.102]. This highlights how the colonies were coming together against the British and the mistreatment they have
As the colonists were enraged by the Stamp act the House of Representatives in Massachusetts asked representatives from all thirteen states to meet in New York to come up with a plan to stop all of this unfair taxing (Keene et al, Section 4). While the thirteen colonies were coming up with a plan, the streets of all the colonies in America were getting out of control. People were protesting in the streets, attacking tax collectors, and attacking the homes of British officials (Keene et al, Section 4). While protesting is a calm and rational move, the colonists were not being anything close to calm. It was as if all common knowledge was lost they were angry and they blamed everyone who got in their way.
Anger grew in the colonies. The Stamp Act made the colonists mad because they had no representation or a debate of the act. Parliament thought it would
