In standardized tests I always get a good grade and in some occasions I have got some high scores on them. I think that I consider myself a good test taker because when I have a test really important I always sleep early, practice things that might be on the test, and the most important for me is to try my best in every question no matter if I never practice doing that question. I also consider myself a good standardized test taker because in the past couple of years I have gotten good grades and it has made me proud. I never been this way because I used to think that school was just a joke because I was going to become a pro soccer player, but now I can see that in order for me to become a soccer player I have to study a lot specially science
The average high school student takes at least one standardized test each school year. Standardized tests are all scored the same way and test takers are given the same questions. The scores students receive play a big part in whether or not they will be accepted to the colleges they apply to. Standardized test scores are one of the most important things colleges look for when reviewing applications. Standardized tests could be successful, in theory. However, they have shown to be less accurate than hoped, to cause copious amounts of stress, and to have little to no correspondence with productive adult lives. Because of their ineffectiveness, colleges should place less importance in them when admitting new students.
Research shows that the use of standardized testing has spanned centuries, some of the earlier studies include data from the early 1900’s. According to Frazier (2009), “there is a significant difference in scores on standardized tests when students have completed a technology education program”. This study shows a correlation between the use of technology within the school system and achievement on standardized tests. Students that are exposed to technology education are more likely to do well on standardized tests.
In my opinion, I mostly do bad on standardized tests because I either can not concentrate or I either do not get it. Sometimes the questions or problems can be also very confusing. I consider myself a bad test taker. I consider myself a bad test taker because when I find myself confused or not getting the problem or question I just make up what ever so I can move on to the next question/problem and not feel stressed anymore. I honestly have always been a bad test taker but not always. For example, on some tests I do very well but on other test I do very poorly. I do not really prepare myself for standardized tests because I either feel like I know it already or I get lazy. Sometimes its either because I know that I am going to do poorly on
The purposes of standardized tests are to instruct decision making, establish program eligibility, evaluate course goals, evaluate program goals, and examine external curriculum. When a teacher gives and assesses a standardized test, they gain information about their students that helps them realize what concepts they have learned according to the agenda for the subject at hand. If the assessment is performed in a sensible amount of time and given according to the directions, this purpose should be fulfilled; however, it is a common belief that standardized tests do not work well in establishing where a student stands in a specific curriculum. The test uses a general curriculum that is the basis for the tests
At a glance scatter plots show whether a relationship exists between two sets of data. This data will determine correlations between students taking the SAT and ACT. Because this scatter plot is falling from left to right it has a negative slope, so therefore there is a negative correlation between these two sets of data. Although these points are falling, it is not a clear negative relationship since the clustered points are not in a straight line. Therefore, this relationship is a weak, negative relationship.
Where are we headed as our future generations prepare to take over and lead our nation? Will our nation’s graduating students be competent and equipped to lead us into a successful future? How do we determine if we are preparing them to be intelligent enough to be successful in this world? What is intelligence and success? And is that all it takes to lead a successful nation? It has been proven that student performance and higher grades can dramatically increase the economic growth of a nation, but is this all we need? Has Washington (Govenement) put in place the best method for establishing a new generation to lead our country? Or should we ask, do we want Washington to be taking the lead of our educational system?
Since childhood it has been taught that education is key to being a successful and productive person in today’s day and age, but exactly how children should be educated is being debated heavily throughout the United States. I have decided to do my senior project on standardized testing (common core testing) as a way to shed light on this broken system. Standardized testing has been created in order to compare test scores around the country and decide exactly what needs to be taught in schools. While this may seem like a good idea on paper, the animation of this in the real world has been a complete disaster. Lately, students have been bombarded with standardized tests and it has been negatively affecting their education. In a quote from one of the most influential females of our generation, “If my future were determined just by my performance on a standardized test, I wouldn't be here. I guarantee you that.” (Michelle Obama). Now in this quote the first lady is saying that people should not be judged based off of one test that is going to determine the way that they are being educated, which is exactly what is
How can a test improve your intelligence? And improve the public education system, standardized testing is not an effective way to improve public education.Standardized tests are unnecessary in the United States It does not cater to students of every background in relationships to body ability, race, class and also non english speakers
Do you ever feel like test never have what you actually learned? Some people support standardized test and some people are against it. I believe that tests do not help the students because testing is expensive, the teachers need to spend more time on what kids struggle with, and should send less time preparing and learn what we need to learn.
Thesis: The effects of standardized testing have negatively impacted students across the United States. High Stakes testing has led to a decrease in student motivation, high retention rate, and a notable change in early dropout rates.
Academic demand on adolescents is on the rise. The future of America, the children, is burdened with standards too difficult to satisfy. From Kindergarten to senior year of High School, The Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 impacted lives of many students by offering equal opportunity to education. It was reauthorized in 2001 and is now known as The No Child Left Behind Act . The concept of this act focuses on the idea that schools will held accountable if a student is not able to perform well academically (Klein). However, it is ultimately a failure because the pressure for students to perform well academically transcends to a backfire . Each state has its own standards, but with the Common Core there is a nationwide set of
Standardized testing is a method of assessment that public schools have too heavy a reliance on. In order to address disparities that arise when students from different racial and socioeconomic gather in schools that also differ in available resources and funding, the federal government has mandated that public schools teach under standards predetermined by the state. From 2nd grade to 11th grade students are given a multiple choice test on these predetermined standards. These standards set the bar for what students are supposed to know at a certain year in their education. Once these tests are scored, students receive a score of far-below basic, basic, proficient, or advanced. In addition to the administration of the test, the federal government
The educational system in the United States has gone through many changes over the last century. These changes are a part of a constant movement toward educational excellence for every child in this nation. One of the most recent acts placed on public school systems by the government is to create more accountability for schools in order to ensure that all children are receiving the proper education. Part of this mandate is that public schools will require students to take tests in order to gather information about their academic achievement. Although educators and administrators claim that the mandatory ability testing programs being initiated in America’s public schools will hold students and teachers accountable for academic
On standardized tests I do well because I consider myself capable of the things that are given to me by my teacher. I am a good test taker because I study before a test so that I can be prepared.. Why would I not know the answer to the test if that is what we study in school. I think that the teachers have already gave us the steps to answer the questions all we have to do is find the answers which I find easy to do if you are paying attention in class is you do what you are suppose to be doing. The way I prepare for standardized test is reviewing the work or topic that our teacher told us it was going to about. I do best on math questions but on reading you might have a different point of view on which sentence goes best and which sentence
I honestly do okay on standardized test, I don't do really good but I don't do really bad either. I consider myself a bad test taker because I honestly do not really do well in test because I just get so nervous and do everything wrong. I have always been this way even in middle school I was a bad test taker. I prepare for a standardized test by going over notes and re-doing some of the classwork by myself at home. Before the night of the standardized test, my mom makes me go to sleep early so i can have a good night rest and I won't be tired for the test. I think I do better on math questions because I understand math better than the other subjects and the math problems are sometimes really easy. I think the questions I struggle the most is
