Standardized testing is used to tell students level in certain areas of academics; however, it is actually a waste of time and money.
Standardized testing has not helped student achievement in America (Is the use of standardized test improving education in America? 1). Ever since students have started using standardized testing, America has fell in many areas of academics. One area is math where America used to be eighteenth in the world is now thirty-first (Is the use of standardized test improving education in America? 1). This proves that testing has not helped America improve in academic achievement, but has actually made a decline.
Standardized testing is very high in costs and is not actually needed (Jouriles). Most teachers can already
Schools around the world have a hard time with standardized tests. Students either don’t take them seriously or simply just do not know the material. Teachers try to prepare their students for these tests but it takes away valuable class time to teach useful information. Many students fail these tests because of the environment they live in at home. These tests put schools into shame when getting their scores back each year. Schools should eliminate standardized tests because the test has not improved student’s achievements, it is an unreliable measure of student performance, and these tests only measure a small portion of what makes education meaningful.
Standardized tests are a waste of time and money. Have you ever sat in a classroom for hours on end stressed until everyone in the school is done taking a test? If you said yes you have probably taken a standardized test. Students shouldn't have to take standardized tests anymore for the following reasons. Standardized test are very expensive and you would also have to pay for the prep. They are also unreliable and are not a good source for the administration and school. Lastly they cause a ton of stress on students, teachers, and the school.
In the world today standardized testing is mandatory in all schools whether they are public or private. If schools continue to make these test mandatory, students grades will show the reflection of what they are not learning. The school might also receive less state funding due to poor performance on these tests. Once No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) was introduced US students slipped from 18th in the world in math in 2000 to 31st in 2009 (Standardized). Standardized testing is not beneficial overall because it does not cater to all students, they do not cover real-life topics, and they are detrimental to students.
Standardized testing has been ruling over the lives of students, making or breaking them in their education without fair judgement. Tests like the SAT and the ACT count for way too much when applying to colleges, which in turn limits the student 's capabilities to thrive in an environment that would benefit them. There are many problems within a standardized test that deems them to be unreliable as a true test of knowledge. Although designed to test groups of students on intelligence, standardized testing neglects to fairly acknowledge the abilities of each unique student which reflect their true capabilities.
Imagine a test capable of making or breaking a student's chances of getting into his or her dream college. Imagine a test score that can be easily influenced, but only through thousands of dollars worth of coaching. Now imagine that same test but biased towards certain crowds of students while also being incapable of accurately predicting their futures. Is this the test you want for colleges to use in order to distinguish students? This is the SAT—famous for the unnecessary pressure it presents to students as well as the unfair disadvantages it presents to many others. Since these SAT scores are extremely artificial, SAT tests are not an accurate predictor for future success.
Evaluating individual students through standardized tests is a poor means and should be replaced with performance-based assessments. An average student spends most of their early life inside a classroom, submitting to a sequence of tests and preparation for further exams to finally graduate and continue with further education, constantly struggling and striving for the highest marks. Through a strict series of standardized tests however, students instead form the idea that there is a single answer for all of the problems that face our world. You are taught not to think logically or creatively at all, but to mindlessly memorize. As a student, you lose interest in the different disciplines you
Living in the United States the emphasis on testing is extremely high. Testing has been around for years , however has increased to an all-time high since 2002 when the Bush administration brought about the No Child Left Behind Act and mandated standardized testing in all 50 states. Since initiation of these annual tests, the degree of student success the US has shown compared to other countries has declined. With the No Child Left Behind Act all students, as in 100% of students, were supposed to be at or above grade level in testing as of 2014. However, the US is two years out and its students are nowhere close to that 100% goal.
Standardized tests are often used to determine where students rank among their peers. However, much of the time tests
The use of standardized testing has always been a very debatable topic. The reason for it is because there are students and teachers that do not think that standard tests are necessary or benefit the students in any way. From student’s view, we all think that it is unnecessary because it puts more stress and we have to spend time studying for this test and taking it when that time could be used for other classes. Also it is not a good way for the people administering the test to measure how smart the students are. There could be students that are very intelligent, but are terrible test takers therefore you can’t just measure out their potential with just one test. Teacher prepare the stuff more over the test then what you actually what you
The use of standardized testing has become a major part of the American education system for many decades to evaluate educational quality. Actually, standardized tests have largely been used in college
Standardized testing is something that is now, commonplace, in the United States. It however, is not the best thing for students and education. It should be eliminated because it hasn't improved student scores, its minimizing the range of subjects we learn, and finally it is killing creativity in and out of school.
Standardized testing is a horrible way to show the learning ability of a student. It takes away all the fun in education, because the teachers have to focus on certain things to teach, and that is what will be on test. Students should be able to go to school and learn about what their future will hold or go more in depth with what they want to do when they graduate high school. Not to mention that standardized testing can be really stressful on students. We do not know what will be on that test, and we have a whole semester to get ready for them.
What are standardized tests? Standardized tests are exams that are administered, scored, and interpreted in the same way for all students. Now there are many pros and cons of standardized testing however, I believe that public and private schools should just abolish standardized testing all together. These tests determine a student’s academic performance and each student is given the same test with the same questions and answers. These tests are designed to measure the students learning capabilities and comprehension on certain subjects but not every student learns or reveals academic achievement in the same way. It is impossible to have a test that will accurately reflect every student's effort and knowledge. Tests alone are stressful
Modern day schooling and its methods of assessing students are the issues presented in this paper. Schools today evaluate students mainly through standardized testing, which is not the right way to evaluate a person’s intellectual abilities and skills. Lisa Belkin, a senior columnist for the Huffington Post, believes that grades have taken prominence over the love of learning, which she thinks is the most important part of school because of the benefit that knowledge provides to a person in their lifetime. She also mentions the effect that grades have on the parent/child relationship, since grades become a goal for both of them and the pursuit of knowledge is left behind.
The mark of success in America for most people is pursuing higher education once a high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) is obtained. However, the pursuit of higher education is not easy to come by since it all comes down to the decisions made by College Admissions committees at various colleges and universities. Being admitted into a college or university depends on a number factors, namely Grade Point Average (GPA), Rank, and SAT or ACT exam scores. Should college entrance exams be weighed so heavily in the college admissions process?
