I have constantly been asked by Friends and family why is it that I want to get a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and what are my future plans once I graduate from San Diego State. Even though there are many reasons why I want to get a bachelors degree in Criminal Justice I always reply with my desire to go into a law enforcement field and start as a police officer and end up working as an Investigator for the District Attorney’s office. This might be a long term goal but hopefully with a combination of my education, hard work, professionalism and aspiration to serve my community I will achieve it. One of the main experiences that got me interested in pursuing a law enforcement career happened throughout my childhood. Born and raised in Mexico City why did I end up living in San Diego? And that is because of the lack of insecurity that I and my family felt while living in Mexico for 12 years. Being young and listening to all the violence that was going on even a few streets away from home definitely affected me while growing up. My worst experience was when I saw my mom coming home shaking and crying because she had …show more content…
After a vigorous background investigation and a few interviews I got a student worker position for the gang prosecution unit. Before working at the District Attorney’s office I had a weak idea of the responsibilities and duties of this office but after gaining so much experience working here, I am amazed of everything that they do to serve the community and bring justice and I am so grateful of all the experience that I’ve acquired while working here. I’ve learned so much and I have never been this convinced about working in the law enforcement field and it is the perfect job to start learning about my future career goals as well as to get a firsthand experience of what it is that law enforcers
My desire for a career in law enforcement started while pursuing my undergraduate degree at the University of Central Florida. As a freshman biology major with hopes of becoming a Radiologist, it did not take me long to realize the medical field was not for me. Peers in my classes had a passion and interest for the material that I did not possess. My grades poorly reflected the type of student I was. Realizing it was time for a change, at the end of my sophomore year I started seeking guidance. Unbeknownst to me, my disinterest in the curriculum was a major contribution to my poor performance. I completed career assessments and sat with academic counselors in several different areas of study. I was feeling more confused than ever because Criminal Justice courses often sparked my interest, but I hesitated due to the dangerous nature of police work.
Before the days when I had a confident mind about what I wanted to achieve in life in order to fulfill lifelong goals, committing to a career in service to criminal justice and law had always intrigued me as a way to earn a living. In high school there was an extracurricular Criminal Justice class that I remember having a profound impact on my life. The lessons of how the structure of the system worked as well as the importance of an honest and honorable way to earn a living played to a keen and personal interest I had in the field. At the time it was a very new post-9/11 world, and departments such as Homeland Security and other federal sectors of government were on my radar as possible outlets for a potential career. The outset of my young,
With all the jobs out there in the world, how does anyone decide what they want to do with their lives? Most of the time this is the first question young people ask themselves when they are trying to figure out what they want to major in at college. This question caused me a lot of confusion about my possible future career. The career I finally choose, like many other young adults, was law enforcement, to be a police officer. In the following paragraphs, I will describe the reasons for my choice, along with the effects that my education and training have on my goal of becoming a police officer.
My mother has always asked me what I wanted to be when I get older. For so many years I was not able not able to answer this question. She is not the only one that have asked me this question. I have found that this question has become to be common to many of us. On the other hand, after working for fifteen years as a security officer, I know exactly what I want to do with my life. I want to further my education and skills to pursue my career. I have chosen Criminal Justice as my choice of studies. I have already obtained an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Ashworth University. My intention is to continue to go to college and obtain a bachelor degree in this field and work hard in order to gain as much information as I can. I am a
I define myself as a curious researcher and reflective practitioner who perceives legal education as a combination of passion and practicality. Whereas my idealistic side wants to thoroughly understand the development of global legal ethics, my pragmatic side asks what actions should be taken by lawyers to solve international legal problems. Hence, Penn Law’s core strengths in providing a remarkably interdisciplinary learning experience and the program of Legal Practice Skills will be the bridge to my academic and professional aspirations.
With all of that being said, I am pursuing a Criminal Justice Major. However, this isn’t because I’ll be making extravagant money and be able to throw outrageous parties on yachts. No, it’s not like that at all. But, it will provide a secure income to provide for my future family. Yet, that’s still not the complete reason that I have chosen this major. I chose this major because for my entire 19 years of life I have loved helping anyone and everyone. I see people struggling everyday with all different aspects of life. Whether its money problems, they’re being harassed, they have problems with drugs, or anything else; I am always trying my hardest to turn their life around and just please them.
Law enforcement is a career that is both violent and rewarding in many capacities. Justice needs to be served in law enforcement and they have a responsibility to uphold the law and serve the people in the community. Law enforcement is crucial in the world today as a global realm as life continues to be more complex and law enforcement struggles to combat many aspects of crime. In order to combat these problems and have a positive future in the criminal justice system, everyone must work together on a bigger scale.
Entering the career of law enforcement is not always easy. Becoming a Police Officer means that I would become a justified employee of the police force. As a Police Officer, I would typically be responsible for placing criminals under arrest, looking for crimes and preventing them before they can happen, protecting the community and it's property and many other things. It is not an easy job at all, Police work can be stressful and dangerous because there is a constant possibility of being injured or killed every day, but it is definitely worth it in the end. Even though those were clear examples, being a Police Officer alone would just be saving someone’s life. Enforcing the law saves peoples lives, and that is exactly what I would be doing. Everything that I would do would be preventing something that could have been fatal.
When I first started college, my academic goals were to learn as much as possible, join a Christian fellowship, get into the criminal justice program, decide whether or not to go to graduate school, and to graduate in four years. In addition, to also to either get a job or get accepted into an internship. My overall goal was to enjoy and make the most out of my college experience. My career goals back when I was a freshman, were to figure out if I want to join law enforcement or go to law school and find a job in the field of criminal justice, while being happy working the job. Over the course of two years, some of those goals have been achieved and some goals have been changed.
Looking at the major I have selected at ECPI, Criminal justice, has been my interest and I am looking forward to my future within my career as a probation officer specializing in the juvenile detention center as a Long term goal. As for a short term goal I strive to be a police officer. There are various jobs that fall into the criminal justice category mainly in law enforcement agencies.
y work and personal experiences have influenced my decision to go back to college and my degree choice greatly. I would like to attain my degree in Criminal Justice to further my goals in the career I have already begun. Having over 8 years of experience in the youth correctional field, I am confident in my decision to further my education in criminal justice. I started working for the Division of Youth Corrections (DYC) in 2007 as an Administrative Assistant and through training and dedication to the victims I served, became a Certified Victim Advocate through the Colorado Organization for Victim Assistance. Part of my responsibilities included assisting victims through the critical stages of the adjudication process. I attended court hearings,
I feel THAT I would become an asset to the Special Operations Bureau as a dedicated member of the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Enforcement Team. I HAVE STRONG DESIRE to serve my community and the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office by working within a unit of like-minded, self motivated individuals whose focus is making our local communities safer by “Preparing cases on criminal activity in our neighborhoods and local communities,” “ Creating a partnership with other local, state and federal agencies to manage larger and more in-depth narcotics/smuggling operational investigations.” (NET)
Growing up is exciting and very scary. Being young is fun while it last but eventually everyone has to grow and go in to the working field. Law enforcement has been a big topic whether it be bad or good things said the law enforcement is always brought up. When I was young I took a fast interest in business. The moment I decided I wanted to be a cop was when I met my dad’s best friend that was a cop, and businessman. All any person wants in a career is to make a decent living and do something that they enjoy doing. I’ve always enjoyed helping people that needed help, the Kansas career pipeline let me take some surveys and showed me that I enjoy helping people more than I enjoy building myself something, which I believe that is true.
Originally I had planned to go to Waldorf University and major in criminal justice to become a police officer. I saw many two faced/unreasonable officers throughout my years of growing up that I wanted to do something different. I remember hearing about the cases on tv and thinking, hey, I can make a difference. I wanted to become a police officer to show people that not
For as long as I can remember I have wanted to be a police officer. I’m sure, as a little boy, what first caught my attention were the flashing lights and sirens on the police cars. It could have also been then the facts that police officer were permitted to carry a gun and had the ability to run red lights. This is why as I grew up and played games like cops and robbers, I was always the police officer. During my teenage years, I later joined the police explorer program and really started to learn about police work. That’s when I
