After the induction ceremony, I came before my mom, both of us smiling. Words were not necessary for me to know that my mom was proud of me. Being in National Honor Society was something that did not just made my parents proud, but it made me proud of myself. The honor of being in the club is not the only reason why the club is so valuable for me. It is the experience that I get form interacting and working with students from other grade levels that really inspires me. Reaching my goal in becoming a member of the National Honor Society would give me a great sense of pride both academically and personally. As a person I have ambition, academic excellence, and great decision making skills to offer NHS. As a member of four national honor societies, I believe my presence in those organizations has made me a good candidate for the College Scholars program. I was invited to the National English Honor Society, Rho Kappa (Social Studies National Honor Society), National French Honor Society, and National Honor Society. All four have enhanced my academics, social skills, and intuition. In the National English Honor society, we are challenged to utilize our writing skills for the betterment of our community. Our main project this year was creating little messages that promoted suicide prevention. We would then attach the message to a knitted heart and hang them all around our school. I am extremely honored to be considered in being in the National Honor Society. I believe that this organization helps a lot within communities and keeping grades up. That is why I believe I should be a member. I know how to keep my grades at the highest they can be, which in my case is a 4.0. I am also largely active within my community and school. I play softball for my high school and hope to be a captain this year since I am now an upperclassman. I also enjoy helping within my community doing things such as work, clubs, and travel softball.
Overall, I am a devoted and well-rounded student, making me a perfect candidate for National Honor Society. In addition to scholarship, National Honor Society emphasizes community service. I have a passion for service and have been involved in service projects through my church, Dance Team, FFA and 4H. As I reflect on all of the community service events I have assisted in, I have realized that each time I have helped others, I have grown as a person. It is an honor to be considered for membership for the National Honor Society. The service that I have done throughout my high school career will benefit me later in life. If I get accepted I will do more service with the school, classmates, and community. So far, I have joined Band and am part of the News Crew.
As a freshman at the University of Maryland, I am pursuing a Masters degree in Computer Science with a specialization in Cyber Security. I formerly attended the Academy of Health Sciences at Prince George’s Community College, a dual enrollment program in which I graduated with my High school diploma and an Associates of Arts degree in General Studies. Having a unique experience by attending these different school has allowed me to become familiar with technical communication in a multitude of ways, whether it is in the work place or school related. Being vice president of the national honor society, being a barista at Peet’s coffee shop, and with being fluent in multiple languages I have used technical communication to encourage people to “take action” in a multitude of ways. Whether it was influencing people to join the national honors society or trying to get customers to buy a new coffee drink, I have consistently been able to encourage others to “take action” with whatever it may be. Over time I have learned the do’s and don’ts of being a technical communicator, and I now understand what must be done to accomplish a task through technical communication.
I have many great qualities: Some of these qualities are leadership, service, scholarship, and character. As a member of FCCLA I have been able to expand these skills and characteristics to be able to help the community. Having these qualities has allowed me to help give a hand when I am able to and when it is needed. Although I already have these four characteristics, being a member of the National Honor Society would allow me to expand these qualities. Becoming a member would allow me to be more prepared for college and my future.
Academics is a serious aspect of my life, and being a member of National Honor Society has certainly encouraged my dedication to my studies. I work diligently to keep my GPA up so I can stay in NHS and graduate with honors. Even with the advanced placement classes I am taking, I know that the extra work will help my future. Being a member has made me think more about my character and how I can improve it. I am more conscientious about my actions, and work hard to complete all of my responsibilities when needed.
Being eligible to become a member of the National Honor Society is a great honor. Becoming a member will open opportunities for me to grow as a person and help me reach my future career goals.
