Stoneville, North Carolina is the place I call home. It is a nice, small and close-knit town where everyone knows everybody else. In case you are unable to place where Stoneville is, it’s about a 45 minute drive north of Greensboro. At first glance Stoneville seems like a nice enough town, but it has one major flaw: it does not want to grow. Not wanting to grow might not seem like a big problem, but let’s go into more detail. Stoneville is made up of small local businesses, family restaurants and convenience stores. There is no fast food, only one grocery store, and three small gas stations. As you can tell, there is not many ways of bringing in local revenue. Not many people will pass through Stoneville and stop to get something to eat or
Andersonville was a Confederate prison built in 1864 at Andersonville, Georgia. It was designed to hold Union prisoners of war during the Civil War. It was official named was Camp Sumter, however it’s better known as Andersonville. It was built from the ground up by local slave labor. At the time it was 10 ½ acres long and designed to hold about 10,000 men. The camp was enclosed out of 15 to 17 inch hewed pine logs. Along the walls were guard towers (referred to as pigeon roosts by the inmates) placed every 90 feet around the stockade walls.
Alien in one definition is: “Too different from something to be acceptable or suitable,” and Illegal in one definition is “Not allowed by the law.” (Mirriam-Webster Dictionary) The words ‘Alien’ and ‘Illegal’ have inherent negative connotations. A person does not need to know the intimate or factual circumstances associated with those words to understand their symbolism. When those words are used to label the social group of undocumented Latino day laborers the inherent reaction is to see them in a negative way. The individuals become a stigmatized group. The people against undocumented immigrants in Farmingville saw the Latinos through the lens of the stigmatized group “illegal aliens.” They thus became
1. Using symbolic interaction theory as your guide, explain how the terms “aliens” and “illegals” helped shape public opinion/attitudes in Farmingville towards Latino day laborers. What do these words mean? How did these definitions influence perceptions and behaviors?
Defendant’s trailer did not exceed the scope of the warrant because it was within the curtilage of his Asheville home. Four factor determine this: 1) proximity of the place to the home, 2) whether the place is enclosed with the home, 3) the place’s use, and 4) the steps taken by the owner to protect it from observation. United States v. Dunn, 480 U.S. 294, 301 (1987). If an officer knew or should have known the area was not within the scope of their warrant, they must exclude the area from their search. Maryland v. Garrison, 480 U.S. 79, 86-87 (1987). A search warrant must contain a statement that establishes with reasonable certainty that the premises can be searched and describe the items being seized. N.C. Gen. Stat. § 15A-246 (2015).

The history of Farmingville, New York started in 1791, when areas of the town became part of the “Great Division of Land” that was laid out. The first settlers did not come to the town until 1770, however. At the time, the area was used for farming. Unfortunately, the land was not suitable for crops, so many families turned to raising animals. The area got its first school district in 1813. In the early 1900s, the town got its first electrical installation and fire department, and development of the Farmingville Gardens.[1]
Westville is a village in Lumpkin, Georgia that represents the way of life in the 1850s through old antebellum buildings, preserved pre-Civil War artifacts, and “townspeople,” who play the part of villagers. The vision and inspiration for the town was started by a man named John West in 1928.
Gentrification should also be used to create useful businesses. They should create more job training and schools. There should also be more daycares in the area. It is hard for some parents to work or train for interviews when they have little kids. If people established a reliable daycare, then adults would be freer to work and grow. Another way the community could grow is if they promoted local businesses instead of chains. Local business create a sense of nostalgia, so locals will want to help their community
Danville, PA is a wonderful place to live as it is a small town and it has several large employers to supply good jobs, however, more small businesses are needed in the downtown and surrounding area. Danville has a history of coal and iron manufacturing but following the peak of that, it had lost several businesses and the downtown became not as busy as it was. Unfortunately, this has remained so and Danville is in need of revitalization.
The best option to resolve the issue of vandalism in the Barkleyville would to instate an after-school program because the police cannot enforce the laws, the people in the town do not feel comfortable with more cops, and the students need to be educated on what is right from wrong.
