Don’t give up, even in the worst times. Sometimes you are faced with a challenge that makes you wanna give up and stop trying but, you should never give up, even at the worst time. The novel Stormbreaker by Anthony Horowitz, is about a 14 year old boy named Alex Rider which becomes a spy at 14 after his Uncle died and his first mission is to find information about Sayle Enterprises, owned by Herod Sayle, and why they are going to donate hundreds of computers to england. In this mission, Alex is able to enter the building as a teen testing the Stormbreaker but, still has to go through multiple challenges, some easier than others, to find out what Sayle Enterprises is doing. Throughout this novel, a constant theme I saw was to not give up, even in the worst times.

The novel Stormbreaker by Anthony Horowitz uses description effectively. An example is, Alex hears a knock on the door, it was a butler named Mr.Grin, he told him to follow him and Mr.Grin begins to open a door.“There was a green glow as his fingerprints were read, and a moment later, the door slid soundlessly open. Everything was different on the other side of the door. From the art and elegance of the main house, Alex could have stepped in to the next century”(102) By using a lot of descriptions, is easier to picture what Alex is seeing and what is happening. Another example is, after alex got caught and punched by Mr.grin and alex waked up ‘His head was thumping and the side of his face was swollen where Mr. Grin had hit him. His arms were twisted behind him and the tendons in his shoulder were on fire.’(178) Especially in a book with action and some violence, being descriptive really helps because you are able to see and read what is happening and what they are feeling. Hence, the description used in Stormbreaker by Anthony Horowitz is effective. Description in a book can make very realistic, maybe too
Details are mostly searched up in the text to find out what's going on in the text. An example of the detail in this excerpt is "Remember; thou hast made me more powerful than thyself: my height is superior to thine, my joints more supple." It stated that the Frankenstein's creature is giant and robust one. The concise details like this will unknowingly create an image in the reader's mind.
The book, Stormbreaker, by Anthony Horowitz is about a boy named Alex, whose uncle had just died in a car crash (or so they say). He finds out that his uncle was really shot by a man named Yassen Gregorovich. Alex’s uncle, Ian Rider, really worked for MI6. He was a spy that was hired by MI6 to figure out the secret behind Herod Sayle and his Stormbreaker computers that he was donating to every school in England. Ian Rider had figured out the secret, but before he could reveal it to MI6, he was shot and killed. Alex’s uncle was the only family he had left, and so it deeply affected him. MI6 decided that they were going to give Alex either the choice of becoming a spy and taking the mission his uncle
"The general was playing with him! The general was saving him for another day's sport! The Cossack was the cat; he was the mouse. Then it was that Rainsford knew the full meaning of terror." Rainsford comes to seek vengeance from the general making a toy of him by attempting to cause insanity due to the loss of nerve. "I will not lose my nerve. I will not." is the type of mental toughness Rainsford shows during Zaroff's tortures. "The general sucked in his breath and smiled. "I congratulate you," he said. "You have won the game."" The generals admit of defeat is not enough for Rainsford, thus Rainsford takes the situation to a brutal place and kills the General; "The general made one of his deepest bows. "I see," he said, "Splendid! One of us is to furnish a repast for the hounds.
We often rely on imagery, a literary device that uses vivid descriptions and appeals to the senses, in our storytelling to point out the important facts in our stories. It helps our audience picture the scene and understand the severity of the situation. In my opinion, a well-written scene can be incredibly meaningful and thought-provoking with the help of imagery, sometimes even more so than a photograph. In literature, this is no different. Authors will describe characters and events in great detail when they feel it is important to the story. They will use imagery to point out character traits, themes, symbols, and motifs. A good author paints you a picture so you can imagine the places, colors, expressions, textures, with all the fine details.
Quote 6: “He felt his consciousness slipping, his mind losing adhesion, until all he knew was a single thought: He cannot break me.” (296)
Brave New World Bernard Marx is an intelligent Alpha-Plus who was threated to be exiled to Iceland for acting out and threatening stability. As the book unfolds we learn more and more about the true rebellious and independent man. Bernard’s character in Brave New World reflects a person that is constantly going against the rest of society’s views and ideas and thriving for freedom and individuality. Following the earlier threat of being sent to Iceland in chapter 10, later in chapter 16, Bernard and his acquaintance, Helmholtz, are officially exiled to Falkland Islands by Mustapha Mond.
Writers that take an extensive amount of time describing details often disrupt the fluidity of the story they are trying to tell, and cause the reader to become disinterested due to the fact that he or she "lost sight of his priority" as King mentions. I am conscience of the speed at which the story is being told, and can often "get bored" of a piece of writing if the writer's decision of over explaining everything slows down the telling of the actual story. A reader can learn from reading such material "to keep the ball rolling", and to avoid getting caught up in describing unnecessary details. Anything that strays away from the actual story and slows down its speed causes the reader to become disinterested and conscience of "the craft."
In the play, Inherit the Wind by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee, the character of Bertram Cates causes the most amount of conflict and impact on his society. He teaches about evolution, so he starts the heated argument on his punishment, and how he impacted the people with his actions
A good story is always structured with details that are easy to follow while intriguing readers with reality and emotions. Edwidge Danticat’s memoir has proven her ability to use descriptions that allows the text and the readers to connect. Through her writing, she is able to get the reader involved in her situation, so that it is as if they are experiencing it too. Adding on, Danticat cleverly writes each type of description in a way that makes them distinct from each other. This connects the two which adds to her message. Descriptions bring life to her story and stresses the real events that happened to her and her family which displays her message effectively. That being said, without objective and subjective descriptions, any piece
The book, Inherit The Wind, written by Lawrence and Lee is based on a true event called, “The John Scopes Monkey Trial”, which happened in Tennessee in 1925. This book is about a trail of Evolution versus The Bible. In the book Inherit The Wind there are lots of people but one of them as the biggest reputation and that person is Matthew Harrison Brady is a famous politician loved by the people of Hillsboro. He believes in the word of the bible. He argued against Henry Drummond in the trial of Bertram Cates versus Hillsboro. Unfourntently Brady's negative character traits cause him to lose popularity over the course of the trial. These negative traits are arrogance, need for attention, and closed-mindedness.
In Gary Paulsen’s Hatchet, the main character Brian shows that courage is the key to survive. Without courage person cannot overcome challenge. He does not afraid of failure, he can always make up his mind, and he keeps on taking risks.
Sanger Rainsford is a civil man who respects human life in the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game,” written by Richard Connell. Rainsford thinks killing humans for sport is inhumane and murderous. On the other hand Zaroff is unintelligent, overconfident and finds hunting humans for sport is normal and entertaining. Rainsford also being knowledgeable and polite and is proved multiple times in the text by quotes, details and thoughts of Rainsford and General Zaroff.
Mahatma Gandhi, an eminent leader of the Indian independence movement in India, once mentioned, "an eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind. " In other words, one's revenge leads to another revenge, destroying the whole world's morality. In the book, The Crucible written by Arthur Miller, the vicious, endless cycle of revenge can also be found. In the story, each character in Salem has conflicts with other characters, so he or she tries to bring up their enemy’s name in court, because of relationship, greed, and grudges.
Each style has a distinctive purpose: some tell a story, some describes and others may persuade a viewpoint. I learned that descriptive essays have text which generally describes something in great detail. Whatever is being defined requires a broad research of trustworthy sources. The thing I liked most was researching and finding out new information on my topic. However, my greatest trouble was involving the reader’s emotion into my essays or writings. Nonetheless I realize that by involving the reader's emotions my writing gives a more vivid detail that makes the reader feel like he or she is actually there.
The story “The Flowers” by Alice Walker was the best example of description. The author gives really good detail and makes it easy to picture the story in your head. An example of a point where she used good detail is in the first paragraph when she said, “... made each day a golden surprise that caused excited little tremors to run up her jaws.” the author could have just said that harvesting made her excited but she made us feel how excited she was. Another point where she used good detail was in the third paragraph when she described when she saw the water rising up and going down stream as “... tiny white bubbles disrupt the thin black scale of soil…”. Also another point that caught my attention where she used great description was when
