The United States of America, being a country founded by immigrants, is known all over the world as the land of great opportunities. People from all walks of life travelled across the globe, taking a chance to find a better life for them and their family. Over the years, the population of immigrants has grown immensely, resulting in the currently controversial issue of illegal immigration. Illegal immigrants are the people who have overstayed the time granted on their US, visa or those who have broken the federal law by crossing the border illegally. Outside the sirens are singing and someone’s parents are taken away from their family because they are not a citizen, they didn’t do anything wrong they just weren’t citizens in the country. Not every immigrant is the same, everyone is different and they all have different opinions. Immigrants are helping out their family like every other family would and they aren’t just the only people who do wrong choices so do others. In the United States of America, there is a big problem with illegal immigration. Illegal immigration is an enormous issue that during the 2016 presidential primary debates. It was a problem when President Obama took office eight years ago, and it is an even greater problem now that he is getting ready to leave office. Most Americans want the border closed, but that will only solve half the problem. The other half of the problem can be solved by deporting the illegal immigrants that are already in the United States. Illegal immigrants are taking American jobs. Therefore, negatively affecting the economy. Furthermore, they have a higher crime rate than the average U.S. citizen. Yet, supporters view illegal immigrants as a good thing because it helps grow the economy by doing jobs nobody else will do. Besides helping the economy, supporters believe that illegal immigrants are not criminals and will not do any more harm than coming into the country illegally. Most U.S. citizen believe that the U.S. immigration policy needs to be reformed. Illegal immigrants should not be allowed to stay in the United States because they take away U.S. jobs, they negatively affect the economy, and contribute to crime.

Illegal immigrants have been a hot topic lately due to the popularity of this topic amongst the Republican Presidential Nominees, especially Donald Trump. These illegal immigrants bring various things to this country when they come. Some things are positive, such as a family simply seeking to find a better life, while some things are harmful to the United States, such as the amount of crime among illegal immigrants. In July 2015, the most recent estimate of illegal immigrants was 11.2 million. This same data shoes that 56 percent of all deportations last year were convicted criminals, which accounted for 177,960 individuals (Shoichet, 2015). Crime among illegal immigrants is a problem, and sanctuary cities, which are supposed to be a solution, may be making this problem worse.

Immigration is an issue that some sought to resolve in both violant and nonviolent manners. most of the time people think the government does not take the measures to tackle the problem at hand. “The responsibility that the state has toward the rights of its citizens. Illegal immigration directly violates some of these rights.” (The Police Should...) In order to enforce the law, police and other law enforcement groups must push to protect the right of the citizens. Also illegal immigrants take advantage of the system by being “granted privileges such as jobs, and moreover they are being given security, schooling, healthcare and other services financed by american tax dollars.” (The Police Should...) Since the start of our country, America has been known as a land of immigrants, a melting pot of different cultures and ethnicities working towards the American motto of the land of the free, home of the brave. Since colonial times, immigrants have been an integral part of society, majorly contributing to U.S culture and economy, yet many Americans have always had very conflicting ideas on immigration. Many people look past the benefits immigrants bring to our economy and society and instead scapegoat them for many of the United States’ problems surrounding unemployment and budget. The positive effects of immigrants, both legal and undocumented, in our country far outweighs the negative effects because of their important impact on society and the economic help that American relies on.

People who are illegal immigrants, travel distances and cross borders to seek a better life while they are desperately looking for a better opportunities, they are also running away from famine, wars or violence from their homeland. For example, Mexico and most central and South America countries unfortunately have a poor economic, environmental and life is not easy to live there. These countries also still engaged in a war with various reasons. Especially; Mexican drug cartels which kills more than 80,000 people in every year. Therefore, United States being the main country that so many immigrants attract as they try to cross the border illegally. As they looking a place that provides freedom of speech and religion, steady jobs, a safe environment, and benefits for the poor and unemployed. It has become a home for many of them. “In 2012, the population of immigrants in the United States illegally is estimated to 11.43 million, rough 3.7% of the entire US population. 59% of the immigrants in the country illegally are from Mexico”. 25% of all the immigrants in the country are illegally reside in California State. As the crossing the border and the journey is hard, in 2008, 53% out of all the immigrants are males which are younger than 40 years old. Some people believes that this people deserve a chance because most of them come with a good intentions. Specifically, they just want jobs where they can get decently paid so they can support them self and their family back home.

Imagine putting yourself in the shoes of an illegal immigrant. You have to feed your family, get money to pay the rent, and prevent getting caught from immigration authorities. The consequences for getting caught could include deportation or serving time in jail. 11 million undocumented immigrants currently live in the United States and have a family to take care of. Families caught under pressure in their own country might not have a choice but to enter a country illegally. Others would say that immigration laws should not let illegal immigrants into the US regardless of the circumstances, but these Immigration laws are unorganized and broken because millions of undocumented

Trump has recently taken a lot of heat for emplacing an immigration ban from the following countries; Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen. Iraq was recently taken off of this list however. The immigration ban basically keeps new immigrants from coming in, keeps refugees out, and visitors from the above mentioned countries. It does not affect those who are already here, have work visas, have green cards, or are dual nationals or diplomats. That being stated, everyone is acting like this is the first time in history that we have restricted immigration. That is simply not true, we have restricted immigration many times in the US. The examples I would like to bring up are The Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 and The Japanese Internment camps during World War II.

Legal immigration law are making it hard for people to get in this country to have a good future with their families or to have good job opportunities. Some reasons why legal immigration laws should be less stricter is because some people from their original nation might have been threatened with killing family members or other things. Another reason it should be less stricter is because if the laws are to strict, people are going to try break them so they can get what they want, but if they are not as strict not many people would break the law.

The restriction towards immigrants from Europe failed during the 19th century because of the need for population from state, the interest of employers, weak government, and some policies. First, America had a huge territories after independence and required Americans to manage it. For example, the Homestead Acts of U.S. federal government gave each 160 acres land to each citizen and alien. The reason why the government did that was because it wanted to improve its revenues and production. The bureaus were complemented by private industry, especially railroads and shipping lines, eager for newcomers

Over the years immigration has continued to be a discussion of intense national debate. The effect of immigration have been looked at as positive and negative. The economy and government has been affected in a multitude of ways. The immigrants are offered sources for work and also economic support for them and their families yet many American citizens are without jobs and struggle to keep a household. Also many Americans do feel as if they are being pushed to the side when it comes to availability in work sources and the taxes people pay are going to the non natives who don’t work but only live off of others benefits. Contrary to that, the number of immigrant men who have a job seems to be higher than native-born men.
