Developing strong interpersonal skills has been an important subject for me since middle school. Coming into high school, I was a very shy, insecure girl who only had about one or two friends. As a freshman, I felt that it was time for me to break out of my shell if I wanted to get anywhere in life. I firmly believe that joining the Kempner High School Student Council has been the most positive influence on my life. Considering my lifetime goals, overcoming my fear of communicating with new people was something that needed to happen.
When I started high school, I genuinely knew that I did not want to continue to be that girl who was always quiet and never wanted to be involved or that girl who was always afraid to be spontaneous. Running to be a student council representative built a fear in me that I had never felt before. I was never the "popular" kid in school, and as mentioned before, I did not have very many friends. I knew at this point that all hope was lost. Who was I kidding? Only 20 people would be chosen and no one knows who Claudia is anyway. Or at least, that's what I thought.
Two weeks after elections, I received the unexpected congratulatory message from a senior student council representative stating that my first meeting would

Student council not only taught me how to smile a lot more, but it taught me the importance of volunteer work, and making others smile more! Volunteering has showed me that I want to work in a field where I communicate with people on a personal level. Another thing I've learned via student council, is how to stand up for what I believe. As a student council representative, I was given the opportunity to decide on what I, along with my peers, thought would be right for the school. Being able to stand up for what I believe is right has made me realize that I am growing as a person and becoming more open minded about the world I live
Elections were held and I was elected President of both clubs. Ecstatic, I felt that this year would be different. The sponsors seemed eager to help us accomplish many things while doing their best for the school. As NJHS President, I could influence top students in the school, but as S.G. President, I could accomplish much more, or so I thought. Immediately, I asked students
“The most rewarding part of being in student council is we get to help our school and do great things for our students,”Student Council member sophomore Madison Inman
On April 26, 2017 I was made eighth grade secretary. Last year Mrs. Trimble, our advisor, just had us in her advisory. Thirty minutes a week to organize immense school functions for a little over one-thousand students wasn’t enough time, imagine that. This year we have student council as an elective class, so we are allowed more time to do what we need to. This is extremely nice because we have a lot to do as a board. Student council positions in high school can open up opportunities to apply for scholarships and prepare you for future jobs. Soon enough, I’ll start thinking about those possibilities, but all the worry is worth
Joining student council was the most instrumental event to have occurred in my lifetime. Upon entering council, the griffin, our class mascot, has become an iconic symbol for me, and just being a part of the griffin council has been a life-changing experience. Just by looking at my character, there were drastic changes after the occurrence of this pinnacle moment in time.
I think I should be in the Junior Honor Society. I have met the requirements to receive this opportunity. I would not let this opportunity to waste. I care for the community and do what ever service to help it out. I help do services for the library when they need it. For example on March 10,2017, I helped make capes for sick kids and then gave them happy birthday cards for the birthday kids. I help out my community by helping people shovel their driveway. Like some of my neighbors can't do it so I ask if I can do it for them for free. I look out for people to make sure they are ok. I am a captain of a football team because of my great leadership skills that can be useful. I put effort and time into my work. Around the house I am a role model
In the spring of 2014, I had decided to run in the election for student council. To my surprise, I was nominated as sophomore class treasurer and secretary.
Chandler Burrows Leadership and Change: My Time in the Student Council Sometimes, the changes that are for the best are those that have the least support. When it comes to the Rolla Student Council this was more true than ever. For many years the events sponsored by the student council were strictly limited to two homecoming dances. It was deemed impossible to add more events to the calendar. It was argued that it would take up too much of the student body time, or that the school's administration wouldn't allow it. I, however disagreed. I believed that it was entirely possible. In my mind it would be having an event every other month would be perfect respobable, and would increase the sense of community felt by the student body. As a freshman, I decided to run for the Student Council
Students tend to have a have a larger workload year after year during their high school career. Depending on what classes a student takes, he or she might have a large amount of homework to tend to. That plus the responsibilities outside of the school environment may result in students having to pull many all-nighters. Having experienced this myself, my aim is to offer an easier way to manage the homework load in high school.
But after I realized how involved we got to be in all of our school’s major decisions, I was hooked. I was overjoyed when I was presented with this amazing opportunity to not only better my campus for me, but for all of my peers. I believe this relates to the person I am because I love being able to solve complex social problems not only to satisfy my needs and wants, but others as well. Which is exactly what ASB is about. It’s not only something that is useful to me, but I love doing it. I love interacting with other people and helping them out. For example, last year I was elected Senior Class President. In the past, the seniors have usually waited until senior year actually starts in order to start organizing events. This year, directly after I was elected, I created and ordered all of our senior shirts with my fellow officers to have for the last day of school. And over the summer I made sure that our senior class was going to be able to have a perfect senior sunrise the first day of school complete with music and the ever popular Teddy’s Donuts. By going to class everyday, I get to help my peers everyday. ASB has been an important experience for me, because I’ve been able to grow as a person, and learn new leadership skills.
Student government has been one of my favorite memories from high school. It forced me to become truly involved. It was now my responsibility to attend every sporting event, every after school activity, every assembly and every student oriented school function. Sometimes this felt more like a burden instead of a privilege. But I loved it. I had worked so hard to get there that I had no other choice whether to love it or not! Through student government I have met new friends that will
Because I am a busy single mother raising three boys, going to school, and maintaining a job, finding any extra time to volunteer is no easy task. However, this summer I managed to squeeze it in. The organization that I volunteered for from May through July is the Ashwaubenon Department of Parks, Recreation, and Forestry. More specifically, I volunteered as a coach for AYSA (Ashwaubenon Youth Soccer Association), for the 4 & 5 age level.
Throughout my time in high school, I have been involved in numerous extracurricular activities. I have been involved in band, choir, golf, speech, theater, Student Council, quiz bowl, and National Honor Society. Though my participation in all of these, I have learned where my skills and interests are strongest.
The Common School was established as an institution to help the elementary education in all aspects, as reading, writing, and arithmetic. In fact, the common school movement established the normal school as teacher-preparation institution, and elementary school of teaching for women. However, the common school was opened for all social level classes, and they focused more in a civic education. What this meant was the people were involved in their own self-government. Furthermore, the common school was divided in three part legislative stages. Permissive, encouraging, and compulsory, where the permissive stages were in charge of the organization for each single local school district. This encouraged a way to keep in charge of the election
My motivations for joining Student Council have existed since the beginning of sophomore year, and they continually grow. At the beginning of sophomore year, I applied for sophomore at large on a whim, and doubted that I’d survive interviews. After scraping by, and being adequately shaken by a very stern interviewer, I realized how much student council meant to me. The questions I was asked caused me to think deeply about my short experience at IMSA and my entire experience in school as a whole. It was during the simulation that I knew that I wanted to be part of Student Council. I felt an adrenaline rush when I took charge of my group and began bouncing ideas off of someone who would later become one of my best friends. Running around campus with him and having people fill out our survey, and then creating a PowerPoint while not very kindly asking people to please leave us alone was thrilling. We were solving an issue, listening and learning, compiling our research, and presenting all in 2 hours. At the end of the simulation, I told a member that I needed a hug. I did my best, I was exhausted, and I still felt inadequate because the solution wasn’t completely solid. I wanted to fix it more. The drive I felt that day to help was incredible, and I’d never felt that I could make a change on campus until that day.
Homecoming had come and went and we were having a student council party at my house to celebrate. Everyone at this point was friends and mingling around until our teacher said he had an announcement. He told us that this was the most successful dance the school had ever had and that we raised almost 50% more than all years past. Everyone was
