Recently, many schools have started questioning cutting sports programs because districts are finding that students are having problems. There have been many studies that support this position. Therefore, students should not have sports because it has been proven that they cost a huge amount of money, and take time from school work.
Many districts are having problems with the high cost of school sports, and large amounts of people think that districts should get rid of them. By suspending sports, Superintendent Ernest Singleton of Premont Independent School District, in Premont, Texas realized his district could save $150,000 in one year (Ripley 11). According to Ripley, ”In many schools, sports are so entrenched that no one realizes their
Many people are debating whether or not school sports should be removed due to the critical consequences they are having on young athletes academic, and social lives. Studies have proven that cutting sports from schools can improve students grades in a plethora of ways. Therefore, school sports should be taken away to prevent students from failing classes, save districts money, and allow children the study time they need.
School sports are not free they cost thousands of dollars for all the right equipment for the sports alone. In the article it stated that new bleachers can cost half a million dollars and to take care of the grass can cost 20,000 a year. Therefore if schools have no sports, they will save big amounts of money that can be used in a better way.So schools should not have any sports for students, because it is very expensive , and it will save the school money that can be used for academic
Schools should get rid of sports. Although many people think that sports are relaxing and stress relieving; numerous studies say that for sport players in particular, the lack of time to do work and sleep is crushing them socially, physically, and academically. Therefore, districts should get rid of after school sports because the cost is extreme, this would aid students academically, and they are a
I believe we should get rid of after school sports, because schools are going over budgets, and kids are getting distracted from school. Yes many people believe we should keep sports because they help students relieve stress and help students relax; but they have caused schools to go over budget and scholars grades have dropped. Therefore, schools should get rid of after school sports because districts cannot afford them, kids are getting distracted, and scholars grades will improve.
Parents and administrators have been wondering of sports are literally helping, or harming education. Schools have had after-school activities for decades, but this has made too difficult for many students to finish their work. Therefore, sports should be removed to increase the ability to save money, improve grades, and give kids the opportunity to pay more attention in class.
I believe High School should not have sports programs. In source 1 paragraphs 5 some schools just like Martha's Vineyard Religion High School care more about sports than other subjects in school moreover about the school the principal would whether pay sizable amount of money for sports than the school's funds. In paragraphs 6 in source 1 the teens at MVRHS have to get up really early like 6:00 a.m for relation to the school. So the athletes can have they classes early so they can play the game and because of this half of the student body are extremely tired which cause depression from the lack of sleep.
At the end of a long, stressful day at school, you look out to the field where you will soon be with your friends, enjoying the sun on your skin and working off the stress of your cooped up day at school, with your favorite sport, of course. The article “Should Your School Get Rid of School Sports?” has two very strong point of views. Part one, “Yes! It’s Time to Scale Back” by Amanda Ripley argues that we should get rid of school sports. However, part two, “No! Sports Are More Important Than Ever” by Tim O’Shei argues that we should keep school sports. School sports can be expensive, but there are many more benefits and reasons for having sports at school than getting rid of them.
Any school district knows that there are many costs that go into athletics. In her article, Amanda Ripley reported that simply maintaining a grass field can cost more than $20,000 a year, she also states that new bleachers can cost half a million dollars (10). In ripley’s article “Should Your School Get Rid Of Sports”, Superintendent Ernest Singleton made a decision to suspend all school activities and recognized his school district could save about $150,000 dollars a year (Ripley 10). In addition school athletics should be removed because it could reduce large amount of money put into the athletic programs. It’s clear that saving money isn’t the only advantage to cutting physical activities it can also help students to focus in their education.
A school in Premont, Texas was threatened to be shut down for its financial problems and academic failures. Additionally, by getting rid of sports schools could save up to 150,000 and sometimes more. Amanda Ripley from scholastic scope says “New bleachers can cost half a million dollars. Maintaining grass field can cost more than 20,000 a year.” furthermore, When teams travel for games schools have to hire substitutes, buses, the band players, cheerleaders, food, hotels, sectrity, painting the lines, and cleaning up. Snacks sold at games rarely if never cover these costs. All these costs can put a financial burden on schools and by getting rid of sports the amount of money schools can safe is
One reason schools should get rid of sports is, they are too expensive. For example, Premont Independent School District, was in trouble, the state threatened to shut the district down for financial problems and academic failures. This shows that the district was paying too much money on sports and not enough on the district itself. Another example is, the district’s elementary school hadn’t had a music teacher in years, and the high school had sealed off the science labs, which were infested with mold,
Without sports America's schools would shatter in boredom and stress. Kids feel sports help their health and grades, parents agree with most of them. However schools think sports will cause academic failures. If sports disappear America's students will get stressed and stress results in academic failure. All schools should have sports programs because they relieve stress on kids, they help lots of kids score higher on tests, and they keep kids happy and healthy.
According to Superintendent Ernest Singleton from the Premont Independent School District he realized that if he cancelled all the sports, the districts could be “saving $150,000 in one year” (11). In fact, Ripley announced that new “bleachers can cost half a million dollars” also to “maintain a green field that can cost more than $20,000 a year ” (11). This shows that school sports can be expensive and if they cancelled sports kids can have all their subjects. Clearly, getting rid of sports is important because students need to be able to have all their subjects and should be able to learn more about things in
To begin, school sports should be cut because they have a negative impact on academics. In Premont Independent School District sports were cut to improve grades. After a semester without sports the passing rate increased from 50% to 80%. As well, 100 more people attended the conferences (Amanda Ripley). Cutting sports improved grades greatly and it got more people involved in the school.
One reason schools should keep sports is kids who play sports are more focused than kids who don’t. Studies show that kids who play sports have better focus in school, they are better problem solvers, and score higher on tests. Kids who play sports, are more likely to do better in school. It’s better if kids are more focused, and have better grades. Kids can be more of a better student playing sports. Kids who play sports are more relaxed than kids who don’t. They are better listeners because they are more focused. Kids can have nothing to worry about if they play sports. If kids aren’t stressed out then it's better for to take tests and do homework. Kids who play sports can be better students. Kids who play sports have better
Teens and younger children should NOT be restricted from playing sports in school because, they kids would have healthier lives, they would pay less medical bills. And they would do good in a career that involves movement like a pro sport. My first reason why i think why kids should play sports it's because, kids will have healthier lives. In the article Benefits of youth sports it states“Organized sports activity helps children develop and improve brain skills, according to a study of that tracked kids from kindergarten through fourth grade”So
