Some critical issues associated with childhood stunting are impaired cognitive development, reduced intellectual performance, and reduced job productivity in the future. Stunting has major effects on children all over the world and if it is not treated at an early age, the effects are irreversible (Huicho). From pre-conception to the first two years of life, it is crucial for a child to get the proper nutrients essential for their development:
When communicating with a child’s healthcare provider it is important that provider listen and show interest in the problems mentioned even if the provider feels it is nothing to worry about. As a parent of two children we have had many different pediatricians some who listened and cared about what we had concerns about and some who would just say I wouldn’t worry about it and not explain why. It is important for anyone who is caring for the child’s health and well-being to show interest in what the parents want to know or have worries about. Having professional that show they want to help with anything that is a worry helps parent be more open to telling the healthcare

Many children in the United States is facing a problem of Under nutrition. It is very important for a child to get as many nutrients in their body to be healthy. Under nutrition is caused by the lack of the six sources of nutrients carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals and water. Hunger can affect a child from growing up appropriately. Hunger also lead to weight loss which then can affect the body from fighting infectious diseases. Because of that, they are more having a high probability of becoming sick, miss school, and fall behind in class. Malnutrition from hunger can also cause cognitive activities. It then affects the brain growth which is very important for a developing child. Brain impaired leads to a child not being able to learn or experience what healthy children do such as reading, writing and speaking.
Many of the complications the baby is likely to face are linked to many topics and issues related to global health. When an unborn child is not getting proper nutrition and is not gaining the appropriate amount of weight, they are considered malnourished which results in them beginning stunted; this is measured has height-for-age. When a baby is stunted they fail to reach their physical growth, therefore, when a mother makes the decision to limit the food in her diet and over exercise she is choosing to negatively impact the growth of the baby during and after the pregnancy. Additionally, babies are more likely to be affected by communicable and non-communicable diseases once they are born. According to the National Institutes of Health, if the baby is considered under weight, they face a higher chance of getting infections and facing delayed motor and social

Childhood stunting is one of the most significant impediments to human development, globally affecting approximately 162 million children under the age of 5 years. Stunting, or being too short for one’s age, is defined as a height that is more than two standard deviations below the World Health Organization (WHO) Child Growth Standards median3 . It is a largely irreversible outcome of inadequate nutrition and repeated bouts of infection during the first 1000 days of a child’s life. Stunting has longterm effects on individuals and societies, including: diminished cognitive and physical development, reduced productive capacity and poor health, and an increased risk of degenerative diseases such as diabetes4 .
