There are many careers in the health sciences field that are very intriguing, while there are some that do not seem appealing at all. Three of these careers are physician assistant, radiologist, and surgeon. Three careers that do not appeal to my likings are dentists, health educators, and home health aide. There are also three more careers that I found on my own that have some interests with me: Radiological health physics,
Becoming a surgical technologist require a lot of dedication and tolerance, whether it's standing on your feet for hours or just simply preparing a patient for surgery. A surgical technologist is a person who helps to prepare an operating room by setting up sterile surgical instruments, equipment and supplies, such as drapes, gowns, gloves, suction tubing, and receiving solutions and medications from a circulator (jeff.org) Surgical technologist also ensure all technology used in the operating room is working properly. Although all of these jobs are very important, the most important job would be assisting the surgeon during their surgeries. Surgeries could last up to eight hours, (explorehealthcareers.org). That's
A Pediatrician is a child’s physician, dealing with the physical, mental, and emotional well being of the child. You undoubtedly have to have a strong love for children and have patience to be a Pediatrician. If you don’t like children then it is apparent being a Pediatrician is not the job for you. I have dreamed of being a Pediatrician since I was 7 years old, ever since I was rushed to the emergency room for an accident I had. I remember how the doctor interacted with me; he introduced himself, and he explained what a Pediatrician did. He told me step by step what he was doing, as he was doing it, and how he was going to do it. From then is when I realized that doctors were not scary, and since that day I have dreamed of becoming a
A pediatrician is a medical doctor who manages the physical, behavioral, and mental health of children from birth until age 21. They also graduate from a medical school and completed a three-year residency program in pediatrics. That can squeeze those eight years of school into a six or seven years, four years of college, you can go to any university as long as you complete the classes that should be completed to become a pediatrician or in order to move to the next thing to reach this career. There are almost 29,000 pediatricians in the United States of America.
The first career, I am looking into is pediatric oncology, Pediatric oncology is what I am considering because it is one of the most inspiring jobs in my opinion. There are also a lot more pros than cons, I want to become a pediatric oncologist because of numerous reasons and that is one of them. A couple reasons are that I have
During High School there are many possible ways to prepare for being an orthopedic surgeon. It is important to take advanced math and science classes during high school. Their are not really any jobs that a high school student can do to prepare themselves for becoming an orthopedic surgeon, but they can do volunteer work. In order to show that they have pre medical interests, many people interested in entering the medical field will volunteer at a hospital and do things that are in a medical setting. It is important to work on certain skills in high school. One such skill is working well under pressure. This is essential, as it is necessary to stay calm while performing a surgery, as they do not want to make a mistake. In addition to being calm under pressure, it is also important to remain emotionally stable for the same reason. Also they don’t want to scare a patient or their family by being overly emotional about something. It is also very important to stay self motivated. “They must not only be prepared to spend many years at school preparing for a career as a surgeon, but also to spend long hours on the job once they have their medical degree” (“Orthopedic Surgeon”). Another skill that is needed is having strong communication skills. Orthopedic surgeons have to be able to communicate with the rest of the hospital staff about their patient. Finally, they have to be able to
The career I had in mind to pursue throughout my life is Pediatrics. I have always wanted to work with kids and help them feel better, but what is a pediatrician you may ask? What is it that pediatricians do all day? Pediatricians Diagnose, treat, and help prevent children’s diseases and injuries. They examine children regularly to assess their growth and development and treat them with the proper medications, therapy, vaccinations, and other medical care. As well as collecting, recording, and maintaining patient information. Pediatricians can be employed anywhere from Physician’s offices to Hospitals and Clinics or even starting their own business as an
Surgeons treat any injuries, diseases and deformities through operations. A large number of surgeons usually choose to perform general surgery, a lot of surgeons choose to specialize in a specific area. Surgeons examine patients, perform and interpret diagnostic tests and counsel patients on preventative healthcare. Some examples of the specialties that surgeons do are orthopedic surgery which is the treatment of the musculoskeletal system. Neurological surgery which is the treatment of the brain and nervous system. Reconstructive surgery which is to perform or treat structures of the body affected by defects, abnormalities, trauma, infection, tumors or disease. The last one I’m going to name is cardiovascular surgery which is the treatment of the heart and the profession I want to pursue.
To start, it is important to know what my responsibilities will be during the job. To find up to date and accurate information I went to the Association of Surgical Technologist or AST for this information. The list provided was extensive but were separated in three distinct categories. These categories were summed up into three roles, they’re scrub technologist, circulating technologist, and the second assisting technologist. Firstly, the scrub technologist, is primarily responsible for preparing the room and assisting in dressing the other participants in the operating room. Secondly, the circulating technologist is responsible for obtaining items outside of the sterile field or other items that team members needed. Lastly, the second assisting technologist helps the surgeon and or the surgical first assistant in the surgery. Of course the surgical technologist is not allowed to
My top three careers of interest are a Nurse Anesthetists, Phycologist or an Interior Designer. While learning about all three of these careers I could see myself doing each of them. A Nurse anesthetist interests me because I have always known I like the medical field, but have struggled to decide whether I wanted to be a nurse or a doctor; with this career, i get to do something in the middle. I also like it because it is not as much schooling as a doctor but still has the great pay. I also was really interested in being a Psychologist, when reading about this job and the skill sets it needs I feel like it would be a very good fit for me. The last job I found interesting and thought would be a lot of fun was an Interior Designer. This caught my interest because I love using my creative side.
The career I would like to pursue would be Ultrasonography. Ultrasonography is a diagnostic medical procedure that uses high frequency sound waves to see images of a patients internal organs, tissues and blood flow. I first became interested in this field when I became pregnant with my first child. I thought that the ability to see images on the inside of a person's body was very intriguing. I've had many ultrasounds in my lifetime and my favorite were always the ones where I got to see the development of my baby. To be able to see a human being before it's even born is one of the most phenomenal things you could ever imagine. To be an sonographer would be a very rewarding career in so many ways. I would be able to help my patients who were hurt or injured, yet I would also be able to show expecting parents there
There are numerous occupations to enter into. Committing to a career will affect the rest of a person’s life. It is best to choose a career that one is confident in and enjoys. Healthcare provides many different branches of opportunity. There are general studies and specialized studies to be a doctor, surgeon, nurse, etc. Being a cardiovascular surgeon is a tough occupation to go into, yet the satisfaction of saving lives makes it the finest job of all. Not every life can be saved, but it takes hard work, dedication, and compassion to at least try to save as many people as possible.
Matthew Brennan from he Health and Pregnancy Center of WebMD says, “Pediatricians are physicians who specialize in the growth and development of babies, children, and adolescents” (WebMD). Pediatricians are responsible for assuring concerned parents that their precious child is on the correct track for a long and healthy life. While researching more on the tasks of these doctors, I found that they mainly examine the child before coming up with a diagnosis. A typical examine consists of checking their ears, reflexes, throat, etc. I had also learned that pediatricians are the first to examine a baby who is just born. They must be sure the new baby is breathing and responding correctly (WebMD).
