To obtain direct measures of ROM, I would perform the goniometer test and based on her findings, I believe that indirect methods would be useful to assess the flexibility of her lower back and hamstrings. The Sit- and - Reach Test is useful to assess the “static flexibility of lower back and hamstring muscles” (Heyward, p. 273, 2010). The Standard Sit-and -Reach test evaluates lower back and hamstring flexibility. I would perform the Back Saver Sit-and –Reach test because it relieves some of the discomfort when measuring flexibility of the hamstring muscles. Also, the skin distraction test is useful in assessing low back flexibility. Furthermore, based on the results of the flexibility tests, I will design a flexibility program for her and
In November of 1528, Alvar Nuñez Cabeza de Vaca with a small contingent of three men find themselves stranded in what experts believe to be near present-day Galveston Island, Texas. Surviving in the New World for eight years traveling across what is now Texas and northern Mexico Cabeza de Vaca returned to Spain in 1537 where he wrote an account titled La Relación. Analyzing La Relación as a primary source for understanding American Indian life in the early 1500s provides a unique firsthand account of a people and culture just prior to the arrival of European influences which majorly altered, and frankly decimated, the societal and cultural landscape of the American Indians. Through an in-depth examination of the text Cabeza de Vaca describes
Despite the problems with reliability and verification, the available Chinese records and accounts offer the best glimpse into the land and people of Wa.
Jackson, A.W., Baker, A.A. (1986). The Relationship of the Sit and Reach Test to Criterion Measures of Hamstring and Back Flexibility in Young Females. Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, 57 (3), 183-186.
The sit and reach test is a measure of flexibility, of the lower back and hamstring muscles.First, I removed my shoes, I placed a regular sized box in front of me making sure that my left foot was placed right in the edge of the box. My brother placed a yardstick taped on top of the box making sure that the first nine inches are away from the box and facing me. I bend my right knee and keep my left knee straight. I placed one hand on top of the other in front of me with my palms facing down. I reached forward as far as I could go making sure that my back and neck was straight and my head up. I repeated this stretch three more times holding my last reach for three seconds while my brother records how far I went. I repeated this same stretch
A highly reliable measurement of ROM would yield consistent measurement results when successive measurements are taken on the same subject under the same conditions. When the goniometric or inclinometry measurement is valid, an examiner can confidently use the results of a highly reliable measurement to determine the mobility and flexibility of a joint or even diagnose a change in dysfunction due to the minimal measurement error. Only by obtaining a reliable and consistent measurement of elbow range of motion can the presence of joint ROM limitation be diagnosed, patients’ improvements toward rehabilitation be evaluated, and the usefulness of therapeutic interventions be assessed. Based on the subject’s performance in range of motion assessments, appropriate range of motion exercises could then be assigned to patients who have a limited elbow extension range. It is important for joint flexibility to be improved or maintained because motions such as elbow extension is essential for transfers, propped sitting, reaching for objects and
Bilateral LE muscle strength was determined using the manual muscle test (MMT) “break test.” In sitting, the patient was requested to perform bilateral hip flexion, internal and external rotation, knee flexion and extension, and ankle dorsiflexion against graded manual resistance applied by the examiner.27 To assess bilateral planterflexion, the patient was asked to stand on one leg at a time and raise herself onto her toes with only fingertips touching the mat table.27
Please describe 6 major ideas/points from the chapter that you found interesting, novel, or informative and why you felt so:
The market pressure that occurs when the quantity demanded exceeds the quantity supplied could result in a shortage (MaEachern, 2015, p. 62). Furthermore, the consumers will compete to purchase the product, even though it is in short supply (McEachern, 2015, p. 62). Also, the purchaser’s competition to buy the merchandise forces the price to go even higher due to the demand (McEachern, 2015, p. 62).
Patients in Group 2 (stretch kinesiatrics group) performed repetitive joint exercises for 15 minutes, using an isokinetic dynamometer (CYBEX 6000®, Lumex Inc. Ronkonkoma, NY, USA). Before starting the stretch exercise, the seat of the isokinetic dynamometer was folded to the rear; depending on the presence or absence of hip joint flexion establishment, the patients took a position somewhere between supine and the hip joint flexion position (maximum position at 30° of flexion). Since the angular velocities of joints prevent possible muscle damage resulting from long hours of joint exercises, relatively low velocities of 30 °/sec and 60 °/sec were chosen to simulate natural joint exercises. For the bending and stretching joint exercises, four
The Approach is a comprehensive and intricate framework for action that addresses the HL needs of Canadians. The aim of the Approach is to achieve a health literate Canada where all individuals are able to access, understand, evaluate, and use information that can help them make informed decisions and enhance their health and well-being (Mitic & Rootman, 2012). The overall goal is to “improve health literacy abilities of all Canadians” (Mitic & Rootman, 2012, p. 24).
The raw data were analyzed as the mean BOLD activations and their standard deviations (Figure 5). Data were analyzed in 2 (Age) X 4 (Stimuli), within-subjects analysis of variance (ANOVA). Data regarding the face and scrambled face conditions were analyzed using a 2 (age) X 2 (Face Stimuli and Scrambled Face Stimuli), within-subjects ANOVA. Data regarding only the multi-part and chain objects stimuli were then analyzed using a 2 (Age) X 2 (Multi-Part Object, Chain Object), within subjects ANOVA. Lastly, the relationship between the BOLD response to familiar objects in 4-month-olds and the BOLD response to faces at 4-month-olds were analyzed using a t-test.
The primary concern I had in submitting my first assignment was formulating my essay into the concise orderly narrative academic style.
This essay is on organization and management analysis. I will show in detail about the various organizational theories. There will also be discussions on the comparisons of management theories and styles and which organizational theory resembles my organization. This essay is also on changes that could be made to make my organization better. There are many organization theories and management theories and these theories are a major part of the working world.
I would have to be honest in saying that over the course of my college career, my standard of writing has seen a fair amount of variation. In courses where I observed that the instructor was not as rigorous in grading writing assignments, I allowed my writing to become more lax. This was evident when I received the grading and comments for the first assignment for this class. My grade was decent, but after analyzing the feedback, I knew that I was capable of producing better work. Many of the mistakes made were thoughtless, avoidable errors. The dissatisfaction I felt towards my efforts on the first assignment motivated me to strive for better results on future assignments. While I did not have very many serious issues to address in my writing, I felt as though the few improvements that were made have a significant impact on my quality of writing.
According to the data displayed throughout Figures 3-9 and Tables 1-7, the researcher discovered reasonable answers to the research questions. The data that was analyzed has shown there was 91% of responses from females in the overall survey. The females had the highest rate of having masters’ degrees followed by bachelor’s degrees in comparison to males. The evidence suggests that seniors between the age of 60-70 are employed at 19% and 10% are still looking to be employed. The overall study displays that 38% of seniors are working. From the data, 46% of seniors have advanced degrees and are capable of working. Females were predominately looking for employment at the rate of 13%, whereas, males followed by 2%.
