Summary Of Bessie's Decision To Go To Muncie

On Monday the 20th of January, Floyd's wife, Bessie wanted to go to Muncie. She wanted to go clothes shopping with the money she got from her Christmas. They usually didn't have time to go to Muncie because they raise their daughter's son. Their daughter was put in jail for attempted murder. She was going to locked away for a long time. Between driving him to baseball practice and taking him to his appointments, the couple didn't have much time for themselves. Bessie tried to talk Floyd into going to Muncie but he wasn't having it. He didn't understand why Bessie wanted to go to Muncie when she could just wear the clothes she already had in her dresser or in her closet. She felt bad for leaving Floyd all by himself. She rethought about going to buy new clothes and remembered when Floyd asked why doesn't she wear the clothes she already has. Bessie was really regretting going, but then she thought why not? She could have a day to herself, to do what she wanted. It was her day to spend. She went into many stores trying to think of something to buy Floyd, but nothing was popping into her head. She then recalled Floyd making a comment about how he needed new shoes for church on Sunday. Bessie went into shoe carnival and bought him a pair of black dress shoes.They were size 12 and wide because Floyd's feet were very wide. Bessie just figured she would just make the shoes a surprise that she could give him Sunday morning. She thought they would make him very happy. Sunday morning came around, Floyd was getting his clothes ready for church. He was the pastor so it was very important that he dressed nice. He liked to impress the congregation with his outfit.
