Summary: Pre-Veterinary Medicine

As an undergraduate at Iowa State University and growing up with a father who is a veterinarian, I have become increasingly aware of the complex convolution of problems that veterinarians face on a daily basis. It is my desire to participate in the resolution of these problems. This led me to pursue an undergraduate degree in Animal Science, in hopes of entrance into Veterinary School. I intend to finish Veterinary School and continue specialization in food animal production. However, I know that the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree is unique, and opens many potential career possibilities. There are many paths that a degree in veterinary medicine could lead me, and I very much want to explore those possibilities through further education.

Throughout the past few years, I have contemplated back and forth constantly of what it is I might want to be when I graduate from high school and college. At first I thought maybe a lawyer, but I soon realized that I am not the type of person to argue against others. Maybe I could be a doctor, but too many people are in that profession or want to be in that profession as it is. After a while of long, hard thinking, I decided that I would apply my love of animals to my future career path, therefor I decided that I wanted to be a Veterinarian. One major part of all peoples’ lives is health care, without it society would have no way of staying healthy and happy, and people would also have no way of treatment in case of an emergency. This also applies to all the pets’ lives are shared with. A certain profession is also needed to provide this care service for all of the animals. The people responsible for this service are Veterinarians. There is a lot to learn about the career of a veterinarian, including all of the schooling required, what a vet does, all of the advantages as well as the disadvantages, and the future outlook for this career.

Do you ever get a sore throat? Feel sick or hurt yourself ? Well, we tell our parents and go to the doctors. Unlike us, animals can’t tell us when they’re sick, so vets have to check for them, to if they are sick or injured.

The suburban city of Coquitlam, BC is famous for its scenic landscape that includes Mountains, Lakes, Parks and recreational places. There are many veterinary clinics in Coquitlam that offer grooming, dental prophylaxis, surgery and boarding services. Most clinics have incorporated the use of modern treatment procedures such as ultrasound and laser therapy in their practice. Some of the most outstanding veterinary clinics in Coquitlam include; Lincoln Animal Hospital, Mundy Animal Hospital and Coquitlam Animal Hospital that specializes in integrated medicine. Mundy Animal Hospital was established in 1995 while Coquitlam Animal Hospital has been operating since 1978.

The work environment in Vet Tech is stressful. In a Vet clinic, illnesses and injuries are more common in Vet Tech. One has to be able to handle being kicked, bitten, scratched, etc when holding, cleaning, or restraining an animal. Try to avoid getting injuries while working in a Vet. Watch for body language in an animal and have proper restraint techniques. To avoid illnesses, the Vet Tech should follow safety procedures. Illnesses can be caused by these things since they would be around them most of the time; Needles, bodily fluids, radiation and other potentially hazardous substances. (“How to Become a Vet Tech”).

I chose the career of a Vet Technician. This job is often confused with the veterinarian or veterinary technologist. These two fields are totally different than a vet technician. Veterinarian required eight years of schooling, where the Veterinary technologist requires a bachelor degree in applied science. The job of an veterinary technician is to provide nursing care and assist surgeries for animals. Think of it as a human nurse, and a doctor, the vet tech assist the veterinarian in diagnosing illness and injuries. Some other jobs a veterinary technician might have would be preparing an animal for a surgery like a scrub with germicidal soap, sterilizing the surgical utensils, setting up a room

Ever since I was little I was told that I was going to be a veterinarian. Well not quite I think vet tech is more of my area. I love animals they amaze me, and I love dogs the most.

I will make sure that the animals and the clients get the kind of care

It takes a lot to be a Veterinarian technician from the duties and tasks to the education and training that veterinarian technicians has to have which all comes down to the salary and benefits veterinarian technicians make.

To become a livestock veterinary, it takes a massive amount of education. Your required education would be to get your Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM). Before that though, you need to do your undergraduate classes. It is also recommended you receive your bachelor's degree.. You need to also complete either an internship or residency program and licensure.

I went to elementary school at Rex in Haysville then to Haysville Middle School then to Campus High for two and a half years then moved to Udall. I do competitive cheer and I am also on the dance and softball team. My mother is Janice a single mother of three and my father is John. I plan on going to Butler for two years to get my Pre Veterinarian then onto K-State to get my doctorate in Veterinarian medicine.
