They moved again in 1929 to Lansing, Michigan and while out there another klu klux klan group burns their house down. It was that day that Malcolm had realized that success for blacks means waiting tables or shining shoes rather than working in a respected profession and also that majority of black people are poor and have no jobs. When Malcolm turned six his father was murdered by some members of the klu klux klan the tied him up on a train track and left him there for dead. The insurance company ruled his death as suicide so the family did not receive any money from his death. So they are offered welfare but the mom turns it down so it is Malcolm who steals food from stores for them to eat. Unfortunately the welfare people think his mom is crazy for turning them down so they send her off to a mental hospital and Malcolm is not too happy about that all of the kids get split up expect the older ones. Ever thought about Malcolm’s reasons for writing this Autobiography? Throughout the text Malcolm experiences many things that many young teenagers would not be able to experience or even understand. Even though in this day and age teens try to accomplish most of the things Malcolm X might have accomplished within a day, there still would never be a hustler like him. Growing up Malcolm experienced many changes with his family and the people around him. In the text Malcolm jumped from being a loner to a very popular young man in the streets around Boston. Malcolm was the type of person that wanted to know all he could to make sure he was good at what he was doing. He wanted to fit in but yet still be himself at the same time. Malcolm quickly
He studied hard to get high grades and he was even elected as the class president. He was doing his best, until his teacher went up to him and told him that his dream to be a lawyer, is not possible all because he is black. Instead, he insisted him to become a carpenter. From then, something started to changed within him. Malcolm sees the limit to the white acceptance, and the inevitable truth of what life awaits for the colored. He starts believing that in the white society he was living in, there is no success nor future. Spike Lee never really focused on Malcolm's childhood in the film, except for this particular part. He chose this moment to highlight, because this scene single handedly explains why he hated whites, why he became a hustler, and why he became a civil rights activists. It was the hatred against the whites. From then, he stopped accepting the whites. This was the moment when Malcolm's view on integration between whites and blacks became possible, to impossible. The historical figure of Malcolm X’s philosophy started here, with the hatred of his enemy. Malcolm X in his speech, preached that the black man should have their own power, by separating themselves completely from the white society, similar to what his father was preaching. His childhood tragedy gave him the reason to fight for, and the belief for uniting the black race for separating them from the cruelty. Malcolm X we all know of, would have never existed without
Malcolm was born on May 19, 1925, in Omaha, Nebraska to Louise and Earl Little. His Father, Earl, was a Baptist minister and an active member of the Universal Negro Improvement Association (founded by Marcus Garvey). Due to his involvement in civil rights, Malcolm and his family were harassed and experienced racism from an early age, and Malcolm’s encounter before he was even born. In his own words, Malcolm

The Autobiography of Malcolm X as told by Alex Haley is the story about a man who greatly impacted American history. Malcolm Little, or Malcolm X as he is more widely known, taught what he believed in regards to segregation, racism, and discrimination. Growing up in a large family with a father Earl Little, a Baptist minister, and his mother Louis Little, who was a homemaker, Malcolm’s life at the time seemed very promising. His father’s involvement in support of the Black National gained him many death threats at the hands of white supremacists. In 1929, they lost their house to fire, and two years later the body of Malcolm’s father was found mutilated. This lead to the emotional breakdown of Malcolm’s mother and in turn she was institutionalized. Malcolm and his siblings were separated and placed in foster homes, and from then, his life began a path of drugs, sex, and crime. It was not until he was imprisoned in 1946, that he decided to make some changes for the better. This essay will assess and discuss those changes whether negative or positive, on a micro, mezzo, and macro level. It will also cover some of the effects of racial prejudice on human behavior, and how society today keeps the ideology of Malcolm X alive.
In grade school, Malcolm’s life was far from a childhood of fun and learning. He was the only African American child in his class, causing him to feel out of place and alone. When asked what he wanted to be when he grew up, a common question that most children reply with astronaut or superhero, he replied simply, a lawyer. This is a realistic and attainable occupation, yet his white teacher seemed to believe it was an absurd answer considering Malcolm’s race. The teacher then replied that maybe he should dream of becoming a carpenter instead. In 1931, his father’s body was discovered lying across streetcar tracks. Although Malcolm X 's family believed his father was murdered by white supremacists from whom he had received frequent death threats, the police officially ruled Earl Little 's
Malcolm X was an African-American pioneer and conspicuous figure in the Nation of Islam. Malcolm X verbalized ideas of race pride and dark patriotism in the 1950s and '60s. Conceived on May 19, 1925, in Omaha, Nebraska, Malcolm X was a noticeable dark patriot pioneer who served as a representative for the Nation of Islam amid the 1950s and '60s. Because of his endeavors, the Nation of Islam developed from a simple 400 individuals at the time he was discharged from jail in 1952 to 40,000 individuals by 1960. Expressive, enthusiastic and a normally skilled and moving speaker, Malcolm X urged blacks to push off the shackles of prejudice "by any methods important," including brutality. The searing social liberties pioneer broke with the gathering instantly before his death, February 21, 1965, at the Audubon Ballroom in Manhattan, where he had been get ready to convey a discourse.
The reason why they moved to Lansing was because one night the Ku Klux Klan came to Malcolm house threatening to harm his father for spreading the Pan-African message of Marcus Garvey. His dad refuses to leave until Malcolm was born. When he was born, they finally decided to move to Michigan when they got there trouble seemed to follow. When they moved to Lansing they were already being harassed by the “ Black Legion”. The Black Legion saw the Little family as “uppered niggers” because of his dad's dream of wanting to own a store, also for living outside the Lansing Negro district, and for spreading unrest and dissension among "the good niggers.". So one night when Malcolm was four years old, he and his relatives were awoken by gun shot noise and smoke. When the cops and the fire department got there they just watch the house burn to the ground not even a little help. The Little family moved again, this time it was the outskirts of Lansing. Their final move brought pain and hurt to the family because one day when Malcolm was six years old his
Growing up as a child Malcolm Little had many struggles and hardships. As a child Malcolm went through hard times, at the age of 4 the house the family lived in burnt down. Forcing them to have to move. Then two years later, Malcolm’s father, Earl Little died on the trolley tracks. As a young adult, he faced jail time and being abandoned by his parents. At the age of 15, he was sent to foster care along with his siblings. Shortly after he turned 21 he was sent to jail for 8-10 years. The crimes he committed were burglary and armed robbery. Although his childhood was very chaotic, Malcolm’s life soon got turned around after he got married 12 years later. He then got a job, as a minister and he was also a civil rights activist. Along with those
Malcolm Little’s (also known as Malcolm X) family experienced a lot of trouble before he was even born. It all started when the Ku Klux Klan arrived at their house because his father Earl Little was supporting Marcus Garvey, who was an passionate Black Nationalist leader. On May 19,1925 Malcolm was born into a family of eight. Malcolm's father's work is the main cause for the death threats they received, this is what caused them to move two times before Malcolm was four years old. Unfortunately the trouble traveled with them, in 1929, the Littles house was completely burned down in Lansing, Michigan. The family assumed it was the Black Legion which is a group that originated in the midwestern United States and consisted of white supremacists.
Although Malcolm’s family was poor, they were independent. Until Reverend Earl passed away in 1931 causing the solvation of his family. To make matters worse, Mrs. Little suffered a nervous breakdown and had to be taken to a mental home. After which Malcolm was taken away to live with other family, his other sibling became dependent of the state. Later on, Malcolm was moved to Michigan State Detention Home for repeatedly defying authority. From that moment, his life seemed to be going smoothly until eighth grade, when his English teacher told him to abandon his dream of being a lawyer because he was a nigger. Malcolm became downcast and this affected his school work. Consequently, he dropped out of junior school to live with his half-sister in Boston. In Boston, Malcolm got attracted to the street life, becoming a shoeshine boy, a drug pusher, and a thief. In 1946, he was caught and handed a jail term of ten years, of which he served only
Right before Malcolm was born members of the KKK came to their little home in Omaha, Nebraska terrorizing his mother. But they were not just there to terrorize her because she was black it was because of who his father was. His father, Earl Little, would eventually be killed not by the clan but an equivalent group. Earl was killed because he was a preacher of Marcus Garvey’s movement of being disconnected from the white man and they thought he was causing a disturbance for the “good black people. The sad part is that no ever was convicted or even brought in for questioning because they put his body on a street car track and the police just believed it was all an accident. It would have all could have been prevented if his parents had not been in a fight about eating pork.
When explaining his purpose, the author shares Malcolm X’s belief that truly understanding someone requires that “his whole life, from birth, must be reviewed”. The author’s structural choice to begin The Autobiography of Malcolm X when Malcolm X was still in his mother’s womb validates this purpose, stressing that the importance of knowing even the context within which a person is born is essential for understanding why Malcolm X thinks and acts the way he does throughout his life. By beginning the text with the terrifying and violent event in which Klansmen aggressively harass Malcolm X’s parents, “shattering every window pane with their gun butts”, the author demonstrates that Malcolm X is born in a time and place of intense, explicit racism
The autobiography of Malcolm X as Told to Alex Haley was a very fascinating book to me. The book talks about the lifespan of Malcolm X and how he went from a typical black kid robbing and doing drugs to becoming the spokesperson internationally for the Nation of Islam. He was originally born Malcolm Little from Omaha, Nebraska, moving from Omaha to Michigan due to the violence and discrimination; he then moved to Boston, Massachusetts after his mother was sent to a mental hospital due to his father begin killed by a white man. Living with his half-sister Malcolm was only thirteen around this age. Mr. Haley hen explains how he became more involved with the nightlife of Boston from gambling, doing drugs, drinking and evening dating a white woman. Mr. X then moves to Harlem, New York begins the big time hustler selling drugs, committing armed robberies; moving back to Boston after the life in
This biography of Malcolm X was a book, which had a purpose of enlightening people on how blacks were treated, it mainly focused on the life of Malcolm and how it affected his life and changed him. Malcolm X is born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, America. A country where racism is so prevalent that his family frequently gets into a confrontation with the KKK and Black Legion society due to his father being a preacher. This results in his fathers’ death, his mother 's mental breakdown, and the separation of his family. It completely put a strain on all of them, as they were forced apart. Throughout the story Malcolm’s personality goes through many transitions due to the various scenarios he went through, and all of them shape up to make up the man he becomes. It was written in first person even though Malcolm X didn’t write it; Malcolm X draws both on his past and his present understanding. So we get the feeling that this is the absolute truth even though it was written by Alex Haley, Its almost as if he chose first person for a reason, this was the controversy surrounding the book.
