Who are the Outsiders? Have you ever been part of a social group? Did you ever feel like an outsider? The book The Outsiders took place in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in the 1960’s. This book is about two teenage groups, the Socs and the Greasers. Both the Socs and the Greasers sometimes felt like outsiders. But which group was the real outsiders? Or, are the outsiders the people who see beyond society groups? I believe that the real outsiders are the people who see beyond society groups. The Greasers felt like outsiders around the Socs because the Socs were the upper class. Socs were always in advanced classes so when Ponyboy (a greaser) was in biology class filled with Socs , he felt like an outsider. When Ponyboy had to dissect a warm and the razor wouldn’t cut, he took out a switchblade. The girl beside him was a Socs and she sad “They are right, you are a hood” (Doc B). So, when Ponyboy was in an advanced class filled with Socs and when …show more content…
When Ponyboy recites a poem (Doc D), Johnny said “I guess we are all different”. When Johnny said “we” he was referring to Ponyboy, Sodapop, Cherry, and himself. (Doc D) Also when Randy and Ponyboy were talking, at the end Randy said “Thanks Grease…I didn’t mean that. I meant thanks kid.”(Doc E) Then Two-bit comes up to Ponyboy and asks “What did Mr. Super Socs have to say?” Ponyboy responds “He ain’t a Socs, he’s just a guy. He just wanted to talk.” (Doc E) Here we can see that both Ponyboy and Randy wanted to stop categorizing people. So maybe the real outsiders are the people who see beyond society groups. To conclude, The outsiders is a story about two different socisl groups, the Socs and the Greasers. Both groups feel like outsiders at times, but which of these two groups are the real outsiders? Or are the real outsiders the people who see beyond society groups? Maybe we all are
How does social division influence our lives? During the 1960s. In Tulsa, Oklahoma, two social groups experience trauma that shows that there is more to a person than meets the eye. Who are the people set as outcasts by society? The outsiders, who can be more than one group or person, are Ponyboy and Cherry, the Socs, and the Greasers.
In the novel The Outsiders by S.E. HINTON the main character Ponyboy’s identity changes multiple times over the text. In the beginning of the story Ponyboy was introduced as a greaser, a greaser is someone who is usually poorer than the middle class and like to screw around and start gang fights and they are considered hoods as stated on pages 2-3, “We’re poorer than the Socs and the middle class. I reckon we’re wilder, too. Not like the Socs, who jump greasers and wreck houses and throw beer blasts for kicks, and get editorials in the paper for being a public disgrace almost like hoods.” this shows that even though the Socs are much more wild the greasers are still considered the bad crazy hood people. Ponyboy didn’t like being a greaser
Have you ever noticed in “The Outsiders” the differences and the similarities between the Greasers and the Socials? Well I will be explaining and showing why the Socials and Greasers are different and why they are the same. I will also be giving evidence supporting Ponyboys thought that Greasers and Socials are the same.
In The Outsiders, a book written by S.E. Hinton, there are two polar opposite gangs, the socs and the greasers. The socs, who are high class, have mustangs and “tuff” cars and wear plaid clothing called madras. The Greasers, who are lower class, are known for their long and greasy hair, wearing leather jackets and being hoods. They only have each other and always have everyone’s back. No matter the situation like leaving a door open in case they need to run away from home because of an abusive dad , they can count on one another. Ponyboy, a 14 year old Greaser, who is also the protagonist, along with other characters lose themselves while trying to be someone else they’re not. Hinton teaches us that it is important to remember that individual
“For thugs from the ghetto, violence is a way of life - it’s what helps you survive.” The Socs and the Greasers were two gangs in The Outsiders. Throughout the novel these two gangs had a continuous rivalry. These two gangs were viewed differently by society. The Socs as rich kids and the Greasers as poor kids.
One of the main vs man conflict in the Outsiders is the rival between the greasers and the socs. The greasers are the east side boys who " steal things and drive old souped-up cars and hold up gas stations". The greasers, due to their family background and physical appearance, are being stereotyped as individuals who are poor and are provided with fewer opportunities than others. On the other hand, the socs, are " the west-side rich kids" who come from affluent backgrounds and" likes to jump greasers and throw beer blasts for kicks". In the eyes of the public, the Socs are the social elites whereas the greasers are considered the less privileged, second-class citizens.
The film The Outsiders takes place around 1960s Oklahoma in a small town separated by the Greases and Socs. The Greases gang being lower-class teens that include Ponyboy, Johnny Sodapop, and Dallas. Socs were the rival gang that are in a higher-class teens involve Bob,
What makes up an “Outsider”? In 1967, Oklahoma S.E. Hinton decided to write a book called the “Outsiders”. Social groups are related to Outsiders by making you feel like you’re separated from the rest of society. The Outsiders consist of two groups of teenagers called the greasers and the Socs (Socials). The true Outsiders are those who think differently about the world.
Who are the people who do not fit in? The novel The Outsiders takes place in Tulsa, Oklahoma in the 1960s. This novel is about two social groups the socs who are in the higher class and the greasers who are in the lower class. The Outsiders can refer to several people like Cherry, Johnny, and Ponyboy.
The outsiders, there are two groups of people that are called Greasers and Socs. Characters in the novel tend to believe that Greasers are troublemakers and Socs are the higher class teens. Socs are a disgrace because of their actions and attitudes.
The difference between the Greasers and Socs in the society is the Greasers treated unequally and criticized for being poor. The Socs are bullying, criticizing, and intimidating the Greasers based on the economic level. Greasers have unequal lifestyles, attitudes, and financial situations, but still live in the same world, beneath the same sun as the Socs (Hinton 18), but repeat the same actions toward the Socs in a way of fighting back and sticking together.
The Outsiders is a novel written by Susan Eloise Hinton, also known as S.E Hinton. The setting of the story takes place in the 1960s. The Outsiders is written in first person view, by Ponyboy Curtis. The story revolves around the greasers and Socs. The Socs are the west side rich kids, they wrecked houses and “threw beer blasts for kicks”. While the Greasers were the east side kids, they “drove old souped-up cars, held up gas stations and had gang fights once in a while.” One of the conflicts the characters face is man vs man, which is because the greasers and Socs don’t get along, this is because they feel superior to each other. They both had different ways of lives, they did different things for fun, and they did not understand each other. This conflict was later resolved towards the end of the story when Ponyboy speaks to Randy about no longer fighting after Bob’s death.
This book showed the struggle between rich and poor. The two main groups of the story were the Socs and the greasers. The Socs are in the upper class while the greasers are the poor ones that dislike the Socs because they have more money, better cars, and act like they are better than the greasers. The Outsiders is a good story by S.E. Hinton that shows the struggles of growing up Hinton did a fine job with the character development, the plot, and the theme with a few flaws.
Have you ever felt like an Outsider? Like you’re someone the doesn’t fit in, you stand out or feel different? Have you ever felt you are excluded cause you have a different color of hair or are poor? You are not alone. Everyone has been there at one moment or another, especially this group of greasers. The greasers had it ruff, they wore baggy clothes, had long hair and were poor. They were always excluded from groups but their own. They were overlooked by the socs. Not many greasers had families, well nice ones. They were always Outsiders, in fact, when you come to think of it greasers are the definition of Outsider. They always stood out, they never fit in and were never talked to by socs, unless they were being jumped. If you were an Outsider
The Outsiders is about the greasers how they are different than the soc’s. According to one soc greasers are white trash with long greasy hair, and Ponyboy replied soc’s are white trash with mustangs and madra shirts. Ponyboy and Johnny get fed up with everything and run away. They go to the park and as Johnny is trying to talk Ponyboy out of running away some soc’s come and try to drown Ponyboy in the fountain but Johnny gets his knife and kills someone. They immediately go to Dallas and he gives them a gun and some money and tells them where to go and what to do. They are in an abandoned church with not much to do for four and a half days till Dallas comes. Dallas tells them that there is going to be a big brawl between the soc’s and the
