Summary: Why Buck Should Be A Sled Dog

In Doe v. Chao, 540 U.S. 614 (2004), a supreme court case, “Buck Doe” sued for damages when his social security was displayed on many of his court documents when he sought damages in the Black Lung Benefits Act. The documents were in an online databases which was a privacy breach. He claimed having his information open for anyone to see caused him distress, and he sought damages under the Federal Privacy Act of 1974. He was awarded damages.

Most of the other dogs stay away from Buck because of his size and strength, but Spitz becomes his constant enemy, from whom he learns an important lesson. Spitz fights with Curly, one of the dogs that is friendly to Buck. Buck watches as all the other dogs attack and kill Curly once he is down. Buck is determined he will never be put in the same position. He will fight to the death if necessary.

As Charles Darwin once said. “It is not the strongest of species that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change”. Darwin’s quote strongly relates to “The Call of the Wild” in many circumstances where the stronger species was not able to thrive, but the one that was most able to adapt to change. In Jack London’s novel, “The Call of the Wild” it is conveyed that in order to survive in any environment one must be able to become accustomed to their surroundings. To survive by adaption one must drop old habits, be able to thrive in poor treatment environments, and love when given the chance. The main character in “The Call of the Wild” Buck, proves this idea on a multitude of occasions throughout his journey in the hostile Canadian Yukon Territory. The first adaptation that is made in “The Call of the Wild” is conveyed when one must drop their old habits to survive.

Buck is the main character of this novel. The other animals in the novel are Buck, Curly, Spitz, Dave, Billee, Joe, Sol-leks, Dolly, Pike, Dub, Skeet, and Nig. Buck’s mother was a Scotch Sheppard, and his father was a huge Saint Bernard. Buck was a civilized dog, but answers the call of the wild and becomes one with the wild. Curly was Buck’s companion on the boat trip to the North. Curly is described in the novel as a “good-natured Newfoundland.” Curly does not survive long; however, Buck learns a gruesome lesson when he sees how easily Curly was murdered while trying to be friendly with Spitz. Spitz was the dog that assassinated Curly and becomes Buck’s most bitter enemy. He was terminated later in the novel by Buck in a dog brawl. Buck’s victory entitled him to take over the lead of the dogs that belonged to Spitz. The dog fight illustrated to me Buck’s ability to survive even among the most primitive elements. Dave, Billee, Joe, Sol-leks, Dolly, Pike, and Dub are the other dogs that serve on the dogsled team with Buck. Finally, Skeet and Nig were two of John Thornton’s dogs that he owned before he rescued and adopts

The domestic dog has to be one of the most unique animals that the human had ever bred. All dogs were formed differently and for separate reasons; whether it be for their looks or for their personal attributes, the dog has been evolved around humans and yet many breeds were created by humans themselves. I also believe that having a dog is a necessity to having a balanced life, just how Cesar Millan was quoted on the Brainy Quote web page “The dog can only become what's in your bubble. The dog is imitating the energy that is in your bubble. You are the source, the feast of energy. If you feel anxious, the dog becomes anxious with you. If you become nervous, the dog wakes up nervous with you”. Your dog runs off of your actions and emotions

The cattle industry in the past as well as today would be nothing without the help of man's best friend. Herding dogs are the best known working dogs. These unique dogs have an instinct to herd and with the right training will help a farmer or rancher move his herd without any trouble, as long as the dog is responsive to the ranchers hand signals and whistles. The best way to train a dog is to have it work along side an already experienced dog. They are keen, alert, responsive, and extremely intelligent. Numerous dogs have evolved into just show dogs or pets, but there are a few that are still used on farms and ranches.

People should think about how sled dogs feel in the Iditarod races. The Iditarod is cruel two dogs because the dogs are provided proper care and they have to run in harsh weather and terrain.

I think buck should be a sled dog, because he weigh 140 and also have strength. Plus François is fair. Plus buck need to grow up and actually have obstacles. Obstacles like the man with the club buck was beat up because he was out of control. Been kidnapped. He learns to fight. He has a very fairly owner. Also he can feel what life is like. Like when white stuff that was on his tongue. That was his first snow. So that’s why buck shouldn’t be a house dog he should be a sled dog.

A major theme in Jack London’s classic book The Call of the Wild is that adaptability is essential for survival, which is what buck has to do to during most of the book. At the beginning of the book, Buck’s appearance changes, In the middle, his mental thinking changes, and At the end, his senses change so he can adapt to his new life in Alaska.

Buck was better off as a Housedog because he had people who loved and cared for him. Buck always got to hang out with the judge’s daughters, sons, and also his grandchildren. They would go fishing, swimming, and hunting. It’s such a shame that buck had to leave the judge and his family because when buck was a sled dog life wasn’t so pleasant for him. He had to fight, steal, and kill even though he didn’t want to. He faced many challenges and obstacles that most normal dogs don’t really have to go through like when buck got kidnapped from his loving and caring family back in Santa Clara Valley to a place where survival is the only thing you must face! In The Call of the Wild, one theme could be that only the strongest survive, Buck goes through significant changes in his life and has to learn very quickly how to adapt in order to survive. The connection between this theme and natural selection is that if you are not able to adapt or suited for a certain task, you will fail. If Buck had not adapted and learned how to a sled dog, he would have most likely of died. When it says "only the strongest survive" it means that if you are not prepared or are weak, you will die first. In natural selection, when disasters happen or things in the world change, only the strongest, smartest, and quickest to adapt will survive. In the Call of the Wild, by Jack London, a young Newfoundland mix embarks on a journey through the Alpine. Battling both the elements, and the pull of civilization, Buck must fight his way to the top in the quest for alpha dog. Not only battling civilization, but his comrades as well, Buck must be the strongest and the smartest to prevail. In the harsh world of the frozen North Buck gains ingenuity, lost through years of domestication.

In the story call of the wild  there were a lot of dogs and people not right
