Respect is important, right? Treating others with the same respect…it sounds accurate. Even though we all have unique differences, everyone should be treated in the same way. In the story, “All Summer in a Day,” written by Ray Bradbury, and the piece of art titled “Pointing Fingers,” the theme of “be the kind of person that you would want to meet,” is presented. In our society, despite our differences, everyone should be treated with the same appreciation. Without this, our world would be dreadful.
In the story, “All Summer in a Day,” the theme of “be the kind of person you would want to meet,” can be shown through dialogue, actions, and thoughts from each character. The first way the theme is being developed is when the author writes, “That

The quote, “be the kind of person that you would want to meet,” can be easily viewed here because of the actions that the other kids took towards Margot. The second way that the story supports the theme of “be the kind of person that you would want to meet” was as William and the others were intimidating Margot. The author wrote, "Get away!" The boy gave her another push. "What're you waiting for?" Then, for the first time, she turned and looked at him. And what she was waiting for was in her eyes. Well, don't wait around here!" cried the boy savagely: "You won't see nothing!" The theme is well written here as the other children were mean to Margot. Treating others with the same respect is basically what the theme of this is, however it was not addressed here. The students were disrespectful towards Margot which can indicate the theme. Being the kind of person that you would want to meet, does not include being a bully and impolite, as William’s actions demonstrated. The last example from the text that determines the theme is, “They surged about her, caught her up and bore her, protesting, and then pleading, and then crying, back into a tunnel, a room, a
When he said that he hurt her feelings and he was not thinking of what harm he would do to her. Margot is talking about the sun and how it use to look like when she lived in Ohio, and then the rest of the kids had been in Venus all their life. It had only been 2 years since the sun had come out and the children had forgotten about the color and heat of the way it really was. Margot was the only one who had remembered. "You're lying, you don't remember!" cried the children. The theme is bullying this shows bullying by the children not believing Margot and saying that she is lying and that she has never seen the sun before. It’s talking about how the children hated her for seeing the sun and the children also hated her pale face, her silence, her future, and her thinness. The boy was asking if anything is happening today and the children laughed and shook their heads. Margot was trying to tell the kids that the sun was going to come out but they didn’t believe her. The boy said, "Hey, everyone, let's put
Then, for the first time, she turned and looked at him. And what she was waiting for was in her eyes. "Well, don't wait around here!" cried the boy savagely: "You won't see nothing!" Her lips moved.
In the story it states after the teacher walks in and asks “are we all here?” and the children reply “yes” this shows that because there was not enough control the seize the opportunity to tease Margot and lock her in the closet. It also states “ Get away! The boy gave her another push” this explains that if the teacher had been there she would not have let the children bully Margot, but because she was not the children were allowed to tease Margot and lock her in the closet showing that they need more control than what they currently
Over the course of history there have been many philosophers, scientists, and geniuses that have grappled with the human spirit, and how humans interact with one another. Ray Bradbury adds his name to that list with the short story “All Summer in a Day.” In this story, Bradbury uses realistic and fantastic elements, and plot structure to create and emphasize the theme that man despises all that is different.
Margot wrote a poem in class about the sun and all the other kids denied the fact that Margot wrote the poem, out of pure jealousy. Later in the story, on the day the kids are going to see the sun, the teacher leaves the room. The kids then start picking on Margot, but Margot does not want to play in their cruel games. Margot goes on to talk about the sun, “It's like a penny,’ she said once, eyes closed. “No it's not!’ the children cried. ‘It's like a fire,’ she said, ‘in the stove.’ ‘Your lying, you don't remember!’ cried the children.” This quote demonstrates the jealousy of the kids, because they will not except the fact that Margot has seen the
In paragraph two on the second page the author introduces a new character that had been referred to as one of the bullies. This character gets introduced with a conversation between the main character and the bully. “What’re you looking at?” said William. Before this Margot was staring out the window, waiting for the sun to come out. William being the bully he is, questions everything margot does. This is important to the development of the main character Margot because it shows her relationship between the rest of her classmates.
The short sci-fi story All Summer in A Day by Ray Bradbury is about being treated as an outcast and reveals the alienating effects that it may have. Sometimes this treatment is brought on by others. In this case, Margot is treated in this harsh manner because she isn’t the same as her classmates and they desire to have the life experiences that she has. Being outcast may not be the only main theme for this story in each reader’s mind. All Summer in A Day provides a multitude of possible themes. This may be the case, however, the children’s physical and emotional abuse of Margot is extreme and justifies this theme. As the time draws nearer for the sun to rise, Margot’s classmates become more brash and crue and at that moment, Margot is exponentially different from the other children in hr class. This concept of being outcast and
Everyone knows the feeling of hoping for happiness. Hoping an inch of good is worth a pound of years.” ("If Only We Had Taller Been", np). As stated in the text the text the character(s) wants to achieve a more physical goal of immortality or
The short story All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury illustrates the envy that can result from one person having more knowledge experience than another. In the story most the students don’t remember what the sun is like, but Margot can, this makes her stand apart from the others. Feelings of envy arise among her classmate’s because she is the only one able to truly know and describe the sun. Some believe that an alternate theme is Depression. This however is not the true meaning of the text, jealousy is a much more prominent theme throughout the short story.
The theme in “All Summer in a Day” and “The Day Rosa Parks was arrested” are similar. The theme that they share is “Stand up for what you believe in.” In both the story, and the drama there is that one person that does not want to be treated the that other people are treating them. It’s just like in “All Summer in a Day” the girl Margot believed that the sun was going to come up, but everyone else didn’t believe her, so they made fun of her because of what she believed in. In “The Day Rosa Parks was Arrested” a white man told Rosa Parks to get up so he could sit down.
Margot’s classmates end up feeling awful about locking her in a closet while the sun came out for a short amount of time. Even though they knew Margot was desperate for the feeling of sun rays on her face and the bright glimmer of fire in the sky to cause her eyes to squint, they decided to hide her from that opportunity and ultimately regret this decision. An example from the text is, “ They stood as if someone had driven them, like so many stakes, into the floor. They looked at each other and then looked away.”
The short story, All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury is about having faith in others and reveals that doubting people can lead you to make stupid mistakes. Examples of this thesis are hidden all through the story. Some of these examples include the kids bullying Margot because they didn't believe her and them locking her in the closet due to their lack of faith. Some people might say the theme of the story is depression but evidence points to having faith in others being the real hidden message. All in all the story, All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury is about having faith in others and doubting people can lead you to make stupid mistakes.
The theme is being shown near the beginning of the short story after Margot shared her poem. After she did one of the other students started teasing her and said “aw, you didn’t write that!”. This made Margot upset. The other kids at first were Jealous when Margot got to see the sun a lot. Before the kids were playing tag, one of them tagged Margot, she did nothing and all of the others started teasing her. Since Margot was from Earth the others were jealous so they started teasing her to feel better. Here are some examples of the theme being shown.
The author makes the reader understand this theme through some text evidence in the end of the short story. For example its says “ Then one of them gave a little cry. ‘Margot !’ ‘What ?’ ‘She’s still in the closet where we left her’ ‘Margot.’” These piece of evidence shows that after all of Margot’s classmates bullied her and violently pushed her in a closet, are feeling regret. They have a feeling of sorrow because they know they have done something that should not have happened. Ray Bradbury provides multiple text evidence, such as “Behind the closet door was only silence. They unlocked the door, even more slowly and let Margot out.” This scene also shows a sense of deep regret from the kids who did the horrible act to Margot. They know that the consequences that they will face, such as Margot doing bad stuff to them or the teacher punishing the kids, will be
