Why did it take more than 50 years for women to get the same rights as men after Susan B. Anthony gave her speech? After knowing that it took so many years for that happen, people might start thinking that Anthony’s speech was not effective or she wasn’t able to convince women to fight for their rights. No, that wasn’t a reason for the delay and in fact her speech was very effective. It just took a long period of time for congress to pass the bill that would allow women to vote and hold an office. Susan B. Anthony’s speech “On women 's right to suffrage” was very effective because she was very credible, she tried to speak to and support common sense, and she used repetition to send a strong message to her audience.

First, her credibility is one reason why her speech was effective, she used evidence that is irrefutable. For example, she used the constitution to back up her claim and that is effective because no one can deny the constitution. “The preamble of the federal constitution says: we, the people…”, notice that it says “we” and that means all the people, not just the males (Anthony, 887). By using the constitution to back up her claim, she is stating that if the constitution is the supreme law of the land, then everyone must follow it and the constitution says that all people should get equal rights, so then women should have the same rights as men. Her credibility makes her speech effective because she used evidence that her audience would easily trust. She said that
