Tape art was an amazing experience. Up until we were shown other examples of tape art, I had no idea what we were in store for. Also, before we got started I had very little faith in myself. I’m not an artsy person and I came to terms with that a long time ago. Therefore, being placed in front of a large wall and being told to depict something as complex and daunting as the solutions to income inequality was terrifying. This brings up the other terrifying component to Sunday. Problems are very easy to identify but solutions are hard to find. Economic equality is a huge problem and as a rising junior in college, I felt so underqualified. However, as we brainstormed and bounced ideas off of each other it didn’t seem as bad. In terms of artistic
The artwork that I chose to describe is by Jean-Michel Basquiat. The artwork is called “Untitled (1981)” it is considered as an abstract piece of artwork because it represent a meaning, but does not try to make an external reality of something we see every day. This picture is of a distorted fisherman, but Basquiat exaggerated on how the person looks because it does not look anyway in form a natural look. In this artwork it uses vertical and horizontal lines at the top of the artwork. The lines are not thick at all, but really thin and curved lines. There is diagonal lines used when describing the somewhat fishing pole on the person back, and there are many unique thick lines of paint used at the bottom
The life of an artist is one that can come with lots of blurred lines between reality and the life of the painting. We see this happening specifically in Stephen Sondheim’s “Sunday in the Park with George” where the artist can become so engulfed in the art that other aspects of life slip by the way side. In Stephen Sondheim’s “Sunday in the Park with George” I believe there are many themes presented throughout the musical. With all of the themes; however, the main points seems to involve “balance” and the many changes happening around us.
The two things that I can say without a doubt in my mind that I have done that have made a difference are my club, Irmo Arts Outreach, and my work at Lexington Medical Center(LMC) as a volunteer. Irmo Arts Outreach has left an impact more on the community than anything else, and the volunteer work at LMC has changed me more than anyone else. Irmo Arts Outreach was a dream I had, which I was able to make into a reality with the help of a few friends. What we do is go to the VA hospital to perform musical pieces for veterans, to let them know we appreciate everything they did for us and that they are not alone. I started the club, I organized our visits to the hospital, and I got permission for them to let us perform there. On our first visit
This past Friday, I attended an art exhibition at the Memphis College of Art where I saw great paintings from Meghann Riepenhoff, along with Tim Andrews. The show consisted of both their paintings in separate sections, they were the only two artist. Personally, I’d say the show combined did not have a theme, but as separate it did. When I first stepped in the building, I was welcomed by greeters, the event coordinator and Riepenhoff’s paintings. Her painting’s made me think the overall event theme was about the beach and waves, but that was not the case. While I continued walking and observing the painting’s I was greeted into Mr. Andrews’s exhibit, which consisted of self-portraits. Both artist having paintings placed in the same space didn’t take away from one another’s paintings.
Foley is the reproduction or creation of a sound or sound object, typically added during post production. Foley art involves recording, modifying, and sometimes combining the sounds everyday objects produce, but does not include synthesis from scratch.
The abstract expressionist whose work I admire the most is the work of Jackson Pollock. He was born on January 28, 1912 in Cody, Wyoming. “He was an influential American Painter, and the leading force behind the abstract expressionist movement in the art world” (Barbara Moore). When Pollock was 8, his father, who was an abusive alcoholic, left the family, and Pollock's older brother, Charles, became like a father to him. While the family was living in Los Angeles, Pollock discovered his passion for art.
Jackson Pollock was born in Cody, Wyoming, in 1912, the fifth and youngest son of an impoverished family. His father abandoned the family and he was raised by a strict and tough single mother. In 1928 they moved to Los Angeles, where Pollock enrolled at Manual Arts High School. There he came under the guidance of Frederick John de St. Vrain Schwankovsky, a “painter and illustrator who was a member of the Theosophical Society, a group that promoted metaphysical spirituality” (O’Conner). Schwankovsky provided Pollock with basic training in drawing and painting, introduced him to European modern art, and encouraged his interest in theosophical literature. Those theosophical ideas prepared Pollock for his later interests in Surrealism and psychoanalysis.
Social Realism has impacted the United States since the dark ages. It has impacted many different cultures all over the world. It does not matter what color you are. My ancestors before me had to struggle while growing up in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Social realism is still happening in the 21st century and it is going to get worse before it gets better. It is a sad thing to go through, but it makes you stronger. It makes you work hard to get what you want and need. My exhibition is unique because my family has dealt with struggles, hardship, and pain while they were being raised in the rural south and they went through the Great Depression. This is a personal topic for me. Luckily, my mother and father worked extremely hard so me and
Since 2014, I’ve worked on a diverse range of projects. My curatorial work seeks to cultivate collaborative spaces for critical discourse and political education; becoming catalysts for resistance, radical action and empowerment within oppressed communities. My mother birthed me at 14 years-old. Coming of age together, the arts became the way we expressed ourselves. It became our language to navigate our oppressions and our tool for empowerment. Helping her escape the pressures of teen-motherhood and helping me maneuver throughout underfunded New York City public schools. My grandmother always supported our will to challenge ourselves, even when resources were scarce. Although my family cannot afford to assist me financially, they are incredibly proud of what I’ve accomplished thus far and are confident I can procure
The concepts that I am having the most difficulty with is finding the femoral arty pulse and doing the math to find out how much medication should be given to a certain animal. My strategies for overcoming my difficultly of finding the femoral arty would be practice on my dogs at home and once I feel confident on finding there I can start to practice finding it on my sisters cats. To overcome my difficulty with the math I am going to do practice problems and make sure i wright each step our completely so I do not mess up the units. With practice writing each step done I should be able to get into a routine and it will help me solve the problems easier.
In this exhibit, Thomas Hart Benton attempts to give an understanding of the working class American. During the 1920’s and 1930’s the Great Depression crippled the American population. Due to this, the working class had been pushed back and were struggling to survive. Benton’s father had described to him the life in rural America so Benton felt the need to go back to the roots of this country and share them in a more mainstream setting. I viewed this exhibit at our university art gallery, on a rainy Saturday afternoon. I walked in by myself and walked through the halls with my headphones on, ready to experience the art. I had read about what the lithographs might look like and represent, so going in I had this one idea in my head. A lithograph
The Documentary Drawings category includes more than 3,000 drawings made between 1750 and 1970. Eye-witness sketches made during the U.S. Civil War are the most frequently used images. Also included are topographical views, bank note vignettes, portraits, and courtroom sketches. A large group of Russian drawings show areas of China in the 1800s. Among the well-known artists represented by numerous works are William Birch, Howard Brodie, Kenyon Cox, Edwin Forbes, Augustus Kollner, James Fuller Queen, John Rubens Smith, Elihu Vedder, George Wallis, and Alfred and William Waud.
Having a chance to learn and take a course about digital arts was wonderful, and I feel great about the things I learned. Mainly, 3D drawing was what I was most unfamiliar with, but it was my favorite thing I learned about in the class. In the past, I had already used BeFunk photo editor before, and I had previously used iMovie as well. So, Sketch Up was entirely new, but I think I enjoyed it the most. I had a bit of trouble with the system in the beginning, but I eventually worked it out after learning more about the structure of the website. I was convinced that making a 3D model of a house would be extremely difficult, and don't get me wrong, at first it was, but once I got the hang of it, it was so fun. Overall, my favorite assignment had
I would like to apply for your next position in the graphic designing field .
Thursday December 1, 2016, I attended the Art Aids America Gala held at the Alphawood gallery in Lincoln park.it is a known gallery for holding many art exhibits. This was an art gala for beauty, sex, loss, courage, and politics revolving around the disabled LGBT community facing challenges such as AIDS. At first sight, I was drawn towards the beauty of all the architecture work as well as the arrangement of art pieces. The gala had a guide given to help you travel through the different representations of art. You start with the “body” section which shows AIDS through physical embodiment, then comes the “activism” section which represented the movements towards the rights of those who suffer from AIDS, next comes camouflage which shows the insecurities artists had to hide behind, lastly they end the gala with the “spirit” section which showed the representations of faith in pieces.
